Mystiqme: This thread needs to be revived for extra-curricula activities. wink
For instance, instead of quarreling about whether na yankee or naija babes better pass on the visa thread, this would be a perfect place to do it.
Also people can ask questions on off-visa matters , e.g accommodation, buying a car, cheapest ways of getting a phone or snagging (a) babe(s) without the risk of Commander Justwise hiding our posts..lol

Those i highlighted will be done in Romance section, not here.

I am thinking that will be too 'diluted' in the romance section. I think its also suitable here since its still part of 'life as a student in the usa except if there are restrictions as to whether posts here must be about tips on jobs, academics, business, etc

I don't just see why romance part of life in the usa does not fit in well here ... but then you are the man in charge

There is a reason why you have Romance, education, job etc sections in nairaland. What has chatting up girls got to do with travel or visa application?

Romance part of life will be discussed in Romance section

You're already in Europe, you should know better.
However, I'm not sure any school can accept your friend with that score. Have him/her re-write the TOEFL exam. TOEFL is easy enough.

Morris: Please I need answers,
I have already been admitted to a Bsc in us
and I will be attending interview next month
and hopefully I will get de visa.
I already have my 1st degree here in nigeria,
is it possible to apply to Msc once I get to usa
and tranfer or move to a graduate school?
Please how does it work?.

Yee you can. When you get to the school just walk down to the int'l admission to make enquiry bout it.

Sagewood: For those of you aspiring to study here in the USA, remember to plan accordingly.
I would recommend that you pursue a program in Healthcare/ medical sciences,
such as Pharmacy, Medicine, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Dentistry, Medical Assistant program,
Dental Hygiene, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Prosthetics & Orthotics and Radiological sciences/ Tech.
These areas currently enjoy high favorability in employment, and will continue for the next 10 years according to the
US Dept. of Labor. This is because of the aging population, and especially the baby-boomers.
No point in studying some worthless courses and you can't even find an employer to sponsor you.
Even if you marry an American and get your papers, finding a job may still be a problem.
This is my 2 cents contribution as a Nigerian American Doctor in the USA.

Thanks Doc.
I intend going for Masters in Public Health. Is it also relevant in this regard? I am also finding it difficult to find an area of specialization.
Pls, what do you think.
Re: Life In The Usa As A Student. by yomifowe(m): 5:29pm On Jul 31, 2013
davidylan:

A phd program in biomedical/biological sciences is practically free. Try that route, you can drop out after the masters with no obligations and then try the medical school route (preferably you would have married and gotten a green card lol).

Good idea, thanks bro.

Ok, after F1 visa enquiries thread, I have 'graduated' to this thread cheesy

Arrived Bloomington IN Friday evening/night (time na night but weather look like evening.lol)....currently staying in temporary housing (very comfortable, have to move out soon tho), trying to settle down generally sha. Got a fone (friends in the US here screamed "stay away from contract o" and I have obeyed...lol. Got a prepaid Tmobile. Love the weather, met only one Nigerian exchange student so far, ASIANS EVERYWHERE!...some r quite friendly tho, Campus is BIIIIG, searching for off campus residence....scary prices for the ones close enuf...hoping to get a good deal & (a) good 'roommate'(s) soon sha (oyinbo people be olodo...dem dey call housemate roommate undecided grin ). No stress at all at point of entry Detroit. With the short length of time I was interrogated, i could as well have been one of the many French & EU nationals on my flight from Paris also visiting the US. Lol. But, special reminder here: Make sure you arrive at the US BEFORE or BY the date on your I-20.

I wish everyone all the best o, again, follow the thread and and listen to the advice of the Ogas here. Do your standardized tests and prepare very well for your interview. Above all, even after the visa, don't come here without enuf cash, and even when you do come with enough cash, watch your expenses very well (like i'm really doing now.lol) and aside from tuition fees etc, sort things like rent out first before buying other stuff. *posted this in the F1 visa thread*

So who knows any CORRECT person schooling in Indiana University Bloomington? By 'correct', i mean a lot of adjectives revolving around the word "HONEST" smiley

I think IAH always grill Nigerians too hard from what most of my friends who came in through experienced. JFK seems kind of relaxed though perhaps cos there are many flights coming in there per time which gives less room for unnecessary screening except if they had a watch on you.
