Well, time will only tell for you not me.

I have seen many that made it here, unemployment rate in Stavanger is less than 2% and if you are not satisfied here then migrate to other country after your Msc.

Yes weather is harsh in many Scandinavian countries but there is nothing like bad weather, just bad clothing. If you have good clothing you can make your body as warm as you want.

My advice is come and get educated first and better things follows even when you return to Nigeria.

Morethan 50 international oil companies reside here and you can also take advantage of that.

In a nutshell, it's worth taking a shot. Do your best; add value to yourself and create your own opportunities.

Why do we do everything under the earth to leave Nigeria even with all our crude oil and other natural resources?, why don't we take advantage of that even as we don't need a visa to work in Nigeria?

While you encourage and advise people its also fair to tell them the truth about that particular country, its called balanced opinion. Don't tell people them the sweet side of the story only so as to be seen as a 'nice guy'.

You are so f.ucking correct, thumbs up man!

The issue with people is that they are so scared of harsh truth, it destroys their illusion and they dont want it. Just a random googling about racism in Norway will expose all what I wrote here and not even to Africans only, even to Asians and other white people who are not Norwegians, its in their culture.

They have this superiority status about every other nationality on earth, they are very insular and most xenophobic people you will ever meet. A review of the ''law of Jante'' will expose what Scandinavians think about themselves and how you should view them. As much as I applaud their free tuition fee for international student, nothing there is interesting at all, their girls sef na another story because the kind girls wey I de see brothers carry for there, e no make sense at all.

I don't know what you guys are talking about.
Home? What is home, can you mention any country in the world you can call home? Even Nigeria my country is just by birth because home is where you find comfort. Can you live in Borno state or comfortably stay in the Northern part if your are a southerner, is it not Nigeria? and you talk of racism. Can you contest as a governor in Edo state when you are from Lagos state. The truth is saying Chinko alone is racism. It took the white patience, sacrifice fairness, commitment, patriotism to take their country to where it is now and you must respect that. If they allow you to behave or have full right you may destroy it, so you don't have to blame them for that. I could not get some Job in Nigeria even after passing medicals because I am not from a particular area, this is my experience and you still talk of racism.

Yes we have oil in Nigeria, do you have the skills? Or educational expertise to gain employment?

What is the status of your government, are they doing anything that will foster development?

Remember traveling outside your comfort zone alone is not only just a life time experience but also broaden your horizon.

If you behave well you live well everywhere you go. No body will be happy you want to share what belongs to them, so get that and be guided.

Which Nigeria are you talking about sir? I am not a northerner, but I have lived in the core north, you dont have to bring out false arguments to support your fantasy of your ''racism free'' Norway and yes, you can contest for gubernatorial seat if you meet the requirment.

The truth is saying Chinko alone is racism. It took the white patience, sacrifice fairness, commitment, patriotism to take their country to where it is now and you must respect that. Oh, so in other words, you are satisfied living as a 3rd class citizen simply becuase they think you will destroy it if they give you full right? And how did you reach the conlusion that you didnt got a job because you are not from a ''particular area''? and are you trying to say this problem also does not exist in Norway too? I once asked you why unemployment is very high in the Afro-Nowegians and you didnt answer, even larger to other african immigrants too, so what are you trying to proove here?

Yes we have oil in Nigeria, do you have the skills? Or educational expertise to gain employment?

And how does this thing you said here affect the fact that most Norwegians are racist? You still keep doing the same thing I accused you earlier, defending people that do not truely care about you, trying so hard to fit in when its clear you'll never belong there. I guess you are a freshie, not an uncommon occurence to see your kind defending their host countries with the last drop of their blood but at the end, Norwegians know themselves and negroes are not one of them. Peace!

Google is what it is: you find that which you are looking for. It's not an objective or particularly clever way to obtain knowledge. If you use Google as a base of your posts, then that's ludicrous.

Norway is not a racist country, speaking from first hand experience.

Unemployment rates are higher (but still very low generally speaking) among foreigners for an ocean of different reasons. It has to do with effort, defiance and refusal to do well in a new society - not racism.

There's a chance you'll feel left out if you:

1. Don't speak the language and don't put any effort into learning it.
2. Unhealthy attitudes and too high expectations (silver platter).
3. Lack of or inability to adapt. This doesn't mean you have to change yourself.

It's like you walking into a mono-lingual Nigerian village expecting everyone to accept you at first glance. Not going to happen, yet it is not racism.

A person that wants to do well in Norway, will do well. It's that simple. There are always some bumps while on the road. It's completely up to each one of us if we choose to let them drag us down.

Anyway, glad to see the thread is still active. Feel free to post (repost) your inquiries, and I'm very sorry if I forgot to reply or missed it from previously.

Hello all, especially to Staflux, INXYZ, ashimiyu ,and other peeps that have been sacrificing their time to contribute valuably to this trend. Pls I need advice/guidance from those that have good knowledge about going about studying in Norway.

Let me start by saying Canada was my initial plan, after paying full school fee payment ($14,000 a year program) and showing bank statement of #1.5m , I was still refused a study visa because of inadequate family and economy ties to Nigeria. Which is funny to me despite having been to Uk b4 and still have a valid UK visit visa. I wish to relocate to an advanced country legally and as I am not a high professional person to be considered for highly skilled opportunities. I want to use studying as a stepping stone to achieve this.

My search for alternatives gave Norway as another good choice. I have a degree in business Administration second class lower with cgpa 0f 2.6. I will like anybody that can recommend business related MSc or professional program that I can be considered for admission in Norway especially in regions that Nigerians can easily blend in.

Hello.

I would recommend Oslo and NTNU as a first choices in your case. Here you have a simple list of available Master's programmes at University of Oslo (filtered): http://www.uio.no/english/studies/programmes/#topic=jus-okonomi-ledelse-administrasjon&type=

NTNU: http://www.ntnu.edu/studies/imp/admissions

You might have to broaden your wishes though - there aren't THAT many economy studies offered by public universities compared to private ones.

Interesting that you mentioned Canada, seems very backwards.

Just read this thread to get more understanding on how it works.

However, prelimary application - final application - Admission.

The most critical part of the application process for most of us was getting the finance -deposit.

Get your SOP - statement of purpose ready, transcript, degree result, international passport ready and certified by either the issuing institution, court or police.

Then, I advice you get all the deposit if you can because its an expensive place to live so you can have a soft landing. Nevertheless, I borrowed part of my deposit and transfered it back after my arrival in Norway. So you can as well do same. The most important thing is, you must show a bank statement with a balance approximating 98,000 NOK ( for University of Stavanger) before you will be granted admission so you can look for someone that has such amount of money to print his/her statement of account to act as sponsor and also must transfer same before you can be granted a study visa as a self-financed student.

I think this little may help.

Good luck.

I am sorry to say, this is more personal because it depends on the career path you want to follow.

If you want to move here, that is okay. Then I will advise you to look up for courses that are less competitive and may be recently introduced in the school if possible. This may increase your probability of getting admission.

As long as you are admitted and transfered your deposit, I will say your chances of getting your visa is more than 90% as at this year's rating.

Good luck man.

Well, as Inxyz already has said, there are some courses that are very easy to gain admission to, and in many cases these are completely new.

As for the rest, it was simply an observation based on your post.

Just curious y d trend is so slow compare to other countries own.

Probably just because it's a relatively small country. People see big stars from UK and the US and think those countries are synonymous with success without considering other options.

Re: Nigerians In Oslo, Norway by Inxyz: 2:17pm On Sep 02, 2014
Okay,
For statement of purpose, yes get some knowledge from previous ones but its better to make it original. That's speaking from your heart. I will advise start cooking up something and review it on a daily or weekly basis as you always find something new to add or something odd to remove from the draft like i did.

For TOEFL or IELTS, its not necessary but if you want to do it, why not? I didn't do it anyway.
However, you can send a mail to your school of choice to inquire more about it like i did to ask them if they require it. For sure you must write it if you wanna go for Telemark University College but for NTNU & UiS, its not necessary, however may increase your chance which i don't know.

For Transcript, you can look for an insider, explain to him/her and may help you get it out so you can send it together with your document sealed. If you didn't succeed finding some help, the allow them but keep track by contacting collecting an insider's phone number and telling him/her to track it for you. Most school uses UPS they also have tracking system and so may know when your document arrives Norway.

Good luck man.

Hi Amii, I will get back to you with your answer please just give me sometime.
However, let me answer some.
1. Get back to you.
2. It varies from one to another, start checking now and most ends December. NTNU ends December 1, for UiS starts December and end march.
3. Norway for me is still green, even in advanced country health courses sells. I may not have time to do research on this but try to google more about this but i think it should sell.
4. Your NYSC cert is not compulsory
5. I don't know much about other cities but I know, Bergen, Trondheim, Oslo and Stavanger are good cities for employment but one interesting thing is, you can live any where and do a job somewhere else especially during summer
6. I will get back to you.

This is just the little I know, may be StarFlux will have more.
