Hello House,

I just got a new place and I intend to get a full sine wave inverter to power (at any instance)
- a 48" LED TV
- a 300W sound system
- a maximum of 4 ceiling fans
- a maximum of 6 energy saving light bulbs.
- 2 laptops.
- charge 4 phones.

The questions I have are:
1. Would a 1.5kva or 1.4kva inverter be sufficient to power all the items I listed above? (1.5kva because I need my generator to conveniently carry the load of the inverter and my fridge at the same time - when needed).

2. On one of the popular commercial websites, I saw a Sukam 1.4kva inverter for N46,500 and a 1.5kva Luminous inverter for N45,000. Which of these 2 products is the best And which should I go for? Can I get it cheaper else where (Both are full sine wave!)

3. What are the best batteries to get and what specifications?

Looking forward to your expert advice and response.

God bless.

hi.
if you want all the load (approximately 2000 watt) to be on the inverter, you need a 5kva pure sine wave inverter. because inverters performs better when running at less than 50% of their capacity.

two options I have for you.

1.
5kva 48v pure sine wave with cccv charging method. LCD showing load in both watt and percentage. showing battery in both volts and percentage. with one full year warranty. @ 140k.

2.
5kva 96v pure sine wave with cccv charging method. LCD showing load in both watt and percentage. showing battery in both volts and percentage. with one full year warranty. @ 160k.

note : all our inverters are made in Nigeria with digital micro controllers.

Bros,

Please can you break down how you got to 2000watts? My friend has a 3.5kva inverter and it carries all the items I listed and a deep freezer.

I found this Wattage rating of typical home appliances on a website:
Fan (Ceiling) 50-75 Watts
Fan (Table) 25-50 Watts
Computer (Desktop) 80- 150 Watts
Laptop 20- 75 Watts
LCD TV (32”) 150 Watts
Refrigerator 160 – 250 Watts
Tube Light (4 Feet) 40 Watts

From my calculation for the items I listed the maximum wattage is 800 watts (i checked, the operating power consumption of the TV is 115W (max) and the speakers 40W (max)). And yes, I understand there is a difference between starting power and running power!

Surely, 5kva is way too much!!! I would appreciate a candid and honest advice. Thank you.

standard ratings should not be adopted directly.

from my experience, when people give a list of their load, there is always at least 30% error.
if you are sure you will not exceed what you listed, kindly check all the ratings of your load and give me the accurate total watts.
thanks.

'Team?' Please is that the name of the inverter? If so how much does it cost?

Please is there anyone in the house who knows the maximum charging currents of Sukam 1.4 and 3.5kva inverters? Many thanks in advance!

This is what im going through with my invert-er guy!!.

Chuckdee:
Inverter in 9ja? once you go that way, you will never want Generator again!, ever!! grin

Yeah, its that good provided you do your calculations very well and you have to be disciplined in the usage thats the keyword here.
I have used a 1.5KVA inverter for the last 3 years w/out as simply as looking at the device for one day, why? because it simply WORKS!!,  The only way I know there is no powere is when the Ac goes off and the fridge stops humming too. I don't even have a gen set cos my area here in Abuja has relatively 6 hrs of Nepa power daily which is very convenient to charge the unit.  My set up consist of:
1 (one) 1.5 KVA Pure Sine wave Inveter (Make is Mopower, an Indian company) Got it for 75k in 2008
4( four) 100 mah Deep cycle batteries-- Got 2 initially at 25k each and months later added extra 2 at 20k each

Thats the set up and the load on it includes a 32'' LCD TV, A 1000Watt  Home theater (you don't blast it at full volume when using inverter oo! shocked), A Sony PS3, Fans, Laptops, DSTV, about 4 energy bulbs (Buy original OSRAM bulbs, they are expensive, about 600 for a 10watt but they have lasted 3 yrs now, and still going strong!).
This unit lasts through out the day for me, honestly i can count how many times I have heard it bleep and run totally flat! and that is on occasions when there had been no nepa for about 2 days!!!.

Inverters are quite, eco-friendly, Very Efficient, the light is always better than NEPA cos its gives out a complete 220V,  very very cheap when you consider the long term benefits of it. I mean I must have saved more than 200K in the last 2 years if I was still using my 2.5kva gen, which by the way i have sent to the village!!
I can go on and on about the benefits here men!,  you don't have to rush out to go allthe way to the backyard to pull the Gen when Nepa strikes in the middle of that very interesting program on TV LOL!, Its Fully automatic!

The Only downside i see is the initial investment, but come on, some good gen sets cost much more than that! Plus you can do like i did, start with maybe one battery but it most be deep cycle to fully enjoy it- then you can gently be increasing your battery bank b'coos the more battery you have, the more online time you will get out of your setup.

One love people,

Wanna use an inverter at home then I guess you have to follow all the analysis above. Just want to add to these though.

Now for a 3KVA Inverter+4x100A battery)->Powers 32'' LCD/LED TV, DSTV, 6-7 Energy bulbs, 0.5 or 1KVA A/C or a table top fridge or freezer, 4-12hrs depending on usage.

The above got me interested... but this is what i want to use it for

Now for a 3KVA Inverter+4x100A battery)->2 Energy bulbs, 0.5 or 1.5hp A/C, 8 laptops and 1 projector.

My question is, is this feasible and how many hours will be available. i live in an area that has roughly 6-7hours of electricity in the day time.

Absolute no. Rather go 4 a 5KVA and u'll need @least 20ba3s for optimum operations. Laptops consume lots of power especially when they are multitasking or performing heavy duty work. With 5KVA ure safe.
Re: Inverter Users : Lets Have Your Experience by baba11(m): 1:13am On Oct 16, 2014
^^It will be better if you can go for low voltage 5kva inverter...since you don't know anything about this,it will be better to get involve train hands...since it is likely that it'll be used 24/7,buy quality inverter although they are costly but they still worth the price in the long run.......

Thanks sleekman and baba11. Ok lets remove the ac out, will 3.5kva still be ok. Now i wont use it for all day usage but as a standby option like gen cos in abuja where i live, phcn light is relatively stable like 10-20hours of light.

yeah u can without d AC but u need lots of ba3s. At least 8ba3s. If u want ur ba3s 2 last make sure u stop using ur inverter/ba3s when ur ba3s are low 2 preserve d life span.

Buy a 0.5hp AC 2 use on d 3.5KVA. Use it with a DC fan placed facing u. Its a smart way 2 utilize a 3.5kva optimally. A friend of mine uses an American 1.5Kva inverter on 8 ba3s. American and German ba3s are monsters. He's a Forex guy so he got a small DC fan on his desk, chinese 0.5hp indoor AC, lappy, 4 LED bulbs. It can last 30hrs according 2 him. I must confess his office is cool on a hot afternoon.

I agree with u but instead of him switching it off due to low batteries, there are wide range of inverters which can do this automatically likewise for overcharging protection
