The federal government has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to conduct a secret trial for Senator Aliyu Ndume, who is standing trial for terrorism charges. Ndume, a senator from Borno State is standing trial before Justice Gabriel Kolawole for failing to inform law enforcement agencies of the activities
of the outlawed Boko Haram sect. Counsel representing the federal government in the matter, E.A. Orji, in a motion dated September 23, begged the court to protect the identity of the remaining witness that are to give evidence in the matter. “We urge the court to exclude members of the public from the trial. We also want the court to protect the identities of the remaining witnesses that shall give evidence in this case. The fundamental rights of the accused has not been violated because his counsel is represented and has not in any way been excluded from the matter. It is in the interest of national security and public safety that the motion should be granted,” he said. The accused’s counsel, Mr. I. Amaza, in his submission told the court that the request would violate his client’s right to fair hearing. He told the court to turned down the request of the prosecution and continue with the trial. Protecting those who want to serve as witnesses or those giving evidences is understandable.
Secretly carrying out a trial is what is beyond me no matter the reason.

I thought the explicit and intrinsic importance of the court is to openly try and convict criminals, send them to jail so that it will serve as a deterrent to others.

I believe GEJ is trying but he is just so weak.
There are a lot of funny things about his government.

If you will agree with me, you will realize that corrupt people/ politicians under GEJs government are left alone without trial. They go free.
He doesn't have balls but he is a good man.

Its only in a failed country that a terrorist minded person will seat at one of the apex arms of government and even contribute in our law making and its deliberation.the next thing we will hear soon is this"Senator Ndume for Change in BornoNVote him as governor"Tufiakwa this is a failed society.

Why opt for secret trial at this point in time? Are they afraid Ndume will spill the beans and the truth about boko haram sponsors will be revealed? I remember senator Ndume once said he was always in contact with vice president Namadi Sambo about his relationship with boko haram commanders. Maybe the VP is the witness that want to testify in secret. Whatever the case may be, I urge the judge to reject this request. This case as been going on for so long in open trial and heaven did not fall. We want to know everybody that is associated with boko haram and nobody should be shielded from public scrutiny. Nigerians say no to secret trial.
