Nice, seems SA are bent on mounting rocket launchers on anything that moves.

Yeah man guys from S.A put Rocket launches on anything, in high school I once went to one of Denels career expos, I saw a police APC with rocket launchers, when we asked the guide why they did it, he just simply said "the police could use them" then laughed and walked away.

These lorries aren't. However, their(maxxpro) MRAPs are based on the chassis of this lorry.

Oga Henry..Nice job with this thread..The NN's SBS looks packard, I must say...My question is, why are they being used to arrest pirates and patrol the Nation's waters? Shouldn't they be a top secret team for hostage rescue, espionage, foreign classified spec ops and the rest? Shouldn't they be in the N.E carrying out top-secret high level spec ops? I'm not trying to sound cocky, but I'm trying to understand their job description..they are too well equipped to be used like a coast guard.

That's because a critical part of their job description includes anti-piracy duties. They are also trained to carry out COIN, HVT, Spec Ops, JOINT OP, Espionage,Recon and a wide range of other operations.

In this thread, their are photos of VBSS, COIN and HVT( training) operations been carried out by SBS personnel.

Training at JMSTC in-corporates all curriculum of special ops training. The difference is, NNSBS personnel attached to our ships as VBSS do not serve in the north-east. Same way NNSBS serving in the N.E do not participate in exercise obangame or piracy duties.

There is a significant difference.

Anti-piracy is as much of a very important task as other special ops.
The pirates you find in the gulf of guinea and in the Niger delta are hardened criminals with very deep pockets, something like a mafia.
Think of how much money these pirates make from stealing illegal crude oil and hijacking oil tankers you would understand that they are willing to do anything to make sure they stay in business.
I don't believe the SBS are playing mediocre roles.

protecting our crude and territorial waters is just as important as fighting boko haram. Theirs is even more critical.

His opinion is understandable though.

Utilising the SBS in such roles makes them look like some coast guard special operations force. Also looking at their limited numbers.

they were part of the defunt JTF in maiduguri that pushed boko haram into cameroon initially before the operation was disbanded. And they are also used in some spec. Ops in the North East.

but you can't take away their primary duty which is to safe guard our territorial waters. simply put, they belong solely to the NN.

i would prefer the army develops same policy of equipping the NA special forces like the sbs 'cos those army SF guys kick a.5s too. don't forget these are the same guys who took out shekau 1&2, same guys that about 200 of them defended konduga from thousands of BH fighters that tried to sieze it, took damboa along with 5 other towns from boko haram in a week without a casualty etc.
i think i'll go with the army SF.

there was a leaked operational report some weeks back about the 111 special forces batallion where a SF group was supposed to clear a village captured by boko haram in preparation for an offensive by the military on a major town.
out of a 100+, only 30 men were willing to advance. these 31(including their commander) went in very lightly armed against a heavily armed BH waiting for them.(one APC and about for pickups), probably the reason others refused to advance.
the operation was a success, the village was cleared and the military was able to advance. those who refused to fight are facing court martial right now.

the army SF are also very good even though not as beautifully dressed as the sbsgrin.

There is a new military documentary done by KDF. Although they don't show much of anything special, its a step in the right direction.
I took some snapshots of the video..
The first pic is The Nora B-52 - Never seen in Public
The 2nd,3rd,4th pic is an IFV fitted with a camera and some advanced gunner- Does anyone know what kind of gunner that is?

I've found it on wikipedia, it says there were unspecified number of vihicles ordered by KDF
. Its a serbian BOV M11 specialized reconnaissance vehicle and/or command-reconnaissance vehicle. it can be used by artillery units as a remote observation post that observes enemy and guides firing. The driver has thermal camera sight at front and CCD TV camera at rear. It is armed with 12.7 mm remote-controlled weapon station for day and night combat and fire on move and stand
