I will start from the Bible;

Matt 26: 11 - The poor you will always have with you

Its not about too much money or not.. This is business not Charity.. That London you are talking about, Cable is not free. And this is not a 'Conspiracy Theory' I wonder where that came from, its just simply analysing the situation on Gorund.

I would love it if all the seats on a Plane were like Business Class seats and we all got the same treatment as the Business class flyers do, but sadly, better service = more money. This is Basic Economics 101.

I would like for all Mercedes Benz cars to cost the same as Kias and toyotas, but unfortunately, that kind of luxury and craftsmanship costs a shiitload more money...

I would love it if all my suits were Italian and swiss hand crafted, but that kind of quality does not come cheap..

If you cant afford the Premium package, get the cheaper packages. DSTV is not the only cable satellite company in Nigeria.. Startimes, MetroTV, CMTV, CTL, etc... Why do you have your eyes on DSTV?!! Cos you want the best.. SIMPLE!! grin

Why havent you asked the government to force Coscharis to reduce the cost of Bentleys and Benz's?! grin

I think its because the car dealerships are not African. We Africans have a problem of not being able to tolerate one another's successes.

well? Lastly MR. DEPUTY HOUSE LEADER am sure you owned houses in every state in nigeria which are well equipped with DSTVs and unfortunately you just calculated your loss per month that is why you raising alarm. When the masses problem become una major concern? #2015 in progress
You are the best commentator here! You've hit the nail on point! Is it not because of 2015 election that has prompted the law makers looking into Dstv? Where have they been since this ripoff on Nigerians has been going on? Is this not a ploy to make believe that they have done something commendable before leaving office? Oh! Or has someone fumbled within the house by not giving returns that has made them to deliberate on the subject matter? So many questions,I guess something is fishy here.

Wow!! You need to calm the fhuck down young Kimosabe. This is a forum debate not a fight.

Nobody is stealing from nobody here so the whole point on thieving from the masses as contained in your post is of absolutely no relevance to this discussion. How did you go from Conspiracy theory to Political theivery all in a topic about regulating the price or Cable Television?!

ANYWAYS.... Back to the topic at hand;

Pay as you go is not applicable to Cable TV.. I have never seen any Cable company that does Pay-as-you-go Television. Pay-per-view is not the same thing as Pay-As-You-Go just incase you are confusing both.

You use strong and thats perfect.. It satisfies your needs just fine which is Football so I guess you have no cause to complain as such.

Finally, I would leave you with an advice; You should never come into a discussion on business with emotional points.. Emotions and business dont mix. And there was no point for you to get uncivil either. Telling me to 'shut up' was uncalled for. Anyways, all men should cut their coats according to their size, If you cant afford Louboutins, wear Bata.. #Period.

Mature response...we can all learn from you.

That's a s.tu.pi.d thing to say, something i would expect to hear from a white racist. Blacks(mainly afro-americans) have invented many things that members of the kkk and nazis use everyday, but do you think they will stop using them? Also the internet was not invented solely by whites it was an American government project comprising multiple races.

The modern day computer you are using right now was invented by an African-American, Mark Dean. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Dean_%28computer_scientist%29 he also invented the colour PC monitor.

Also the blueprint for the first ever phone was drawn by an African-American by the name of Lewis Latimer, he also invented the light bulb.

You know the reason we use English as a lingua franca so why would you say that? You want me to speak Zulu? I'm
a IGBO Not a Zulu/Xhosa slave.

You seem to have a serious mental problem. Why would you speak Xhosa or Zulu in a Nigerian forum? The guy you talking to is another Nigerian. We are better off being slaves and leaving comfortably in our countrye unlike you who are zombies of a few dummb politicians who are robbing you blind forcing you to run all over the world seeking green pastures. Running to the same countries ran by the same whites you seem to loathe.

How much should DSTV charge you per second?! grin

How should the charges work?! Per channel/per hour or like Pay-per-view?!

Why not suggest they sell the programs on DVD for 150 Naira in traffic.. grin

Pay-As-You-Go is not applicable to Cable Television because its a different type of commodity from Telephones.

Let's wait and see how long it will take before any bill is passed and implemented. When it comes to making laws that will benefit the common man, we know how our reps and senators behave.
But, it didn't take them anytime to approve the borrowing of ONE BILLION DOLLARS proposed by the clown to FIGHT the bokohaRAMS that they're currently negotiating PEACE with.
Meanwhile, I don't see DSTV doing any monopoly here. Our own indigenous providers too are very greedy!

I personally think this topic is useless.....as well as we have MTN, dstv, shopRite, and the other few southafrican investments in nigeria, we shouldnt be oblivious of the fact that, we have more nigeria establishments there. So why the bashingg?? MTN, records more profit in nigeria, than every other country, even SA (irrespective of the fact that glo is overtaking), so its not like you're doing us a favour, investing here, and vice versa. Lmao DumbbFolks be like, SA (shoprite), has exposed nigerians to modern shopping, and i just laugh hard, at the ignorance and stupidityy in that statement...... Incase y'all don't know how it works, you coming to invest here, benefits our economy, providing jobs, and ultimately, service, and thats all. The other benefit is for y'all to figure out. Im just sick and tired of s.africans coming on here, talking shit like they know shi about business investment, or legal aggrement between the 2countries, like stfu. No hate though. Peace!

Okay.. That said, this is not about being well to do or not. Unfortunately, the world isnt an Ideal place. Every service or product in the business world is divided along class & quality and the control factor for these are the PRICE. I will for the heck of it throw a couple of examples out there;

Airline:: You can Buy an Arik Ticket for 11,000 Naira that gets you cramped and uncomfortable seat close to the back (near the toilet) with one small shared armrest, a small over used toilet, a small plastic cup of water or cheapass juice and a thoughtlessly baked pastry... OR.. You can pay 45'k for bigger seats, wider armrest, a hostess at your beck and call, an reserved toilet, hot food served to you on a tray, as much drinks as you would like for the duration of the flight and a much more comfortable flight.

Now you would think that those who are flying Business class have it good, but it gets better.. For a little more money, you can get on a private chatter flight and enjoy Onboard entertainment (movies, music and news), sleeper seats, a full service bar, Attendants at your beck and call, faster check and check out, special treatment and exclusive pampering..

Even this can get a whole lot better.. Chatter a Custom G6 Jet.. grin

Electronics:: You have a Samsung TV, I have a Samsung, the next guy has a Samsung, e.t.c.. Even though we have the same brand of devices, yours is the smart Tv, mine is the Super Smart TV, the Next guy has the Genius TV.. Whereas the other guy can off his TV from the office, watch his TV on his phone inside the toilet, watch 3D movies and all, ours cant.. But then, these are not even the pinnacle of Televisions.. I saw a Bang and Olufsen television in a friend’s house and was like WOW!!! The price of that TV?! #Foggerabout.. shocked

In phone technology, I just realized that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 sold by Samsung Niigeria in Nigeria and Africa is of a lesser quality than the variant sold in the U.S and U.K market in terms of some content. Example: The Note 3 sold by Samsung here is the N-900 version, which does not come with 4G and some other internal specs.. The N-9005 is whats sold in teh UK and is of a higher spec than the N-900.. Its unfair but if they sent you the N-9005 you would have to pay N-9005 money.

Infact, I could keep going.. Name one comodity/service in this life that does not have varying levels.. Almost NONE!! The reason is because the better it gets, the more money it costs the provider. In the U.K, matches are not shown live on cable TV because it discourages people from going to the stadium. For you to get a match live in the UK, you buy it like Pay-Per-View on your cable.

Its hypocritical of us to go after DSTV for the premium package price. Its called 'PREMIUM' for a reason. They have graded their services like the Hotels grade their rooms (from executive to standard), like Airlines grade their seats (First class - Business - Economy), Cars (Custom - Limited edition - full option regular - basic opition regular), Phones (Vertu - Porshe - Samsungs/iphones/Blackberries - Tecno - Sagem/talkabout) grin , Houses (from detached - semi-detached - face-me I face you), Generator (from Industrial - iPassMyNeighbour), Restaurants (from Southern Sun/Chinese restaurant - Mamput), Same way even water is graded from (Spring - Still - treated - 'pure-water') grin, Same way Food is graded from (Orishishi - 'Madam put 200 Naira rice with no stew or meat’).. grin .. Same product, different variants, different packages, varying prices..

Nothing is free in Freetown my friend.

I would love to drive in a full option brand New Range Sport Supercharged for the price of a Kia Picanto... grin (I hope you are laughing at this wish). grin Even amongst the Kia Picanto owners, their is still levels.. Its called 'OPTIONS'..
Do you want Manual or auto?!
Do you want Cassette or CD or Aux or a combination of all?!
Leather Seat or fabric?! 4 cyclinder or 6?
Sunroof or none?!
Tinted glass or transparent?!
Alloy rims or Wheel cover?
Normal dash or Nav screen?
Sirius XM Satellite radio or FM/AM alone?
Onboard Assistance or not?
Power Windows or Manual?
Chrome grill or plastic?

Every Commodity in life comes with options.. All these options come with a price..

You spoke about MTN.. grin Let me take you on that;

When MTN came into Nigeria, there were 3 Telecoms companies in Play then and all offering Mobile Telecoms services: MTN, ECONET and NITEL.. Before MTN and ECONET, the cost of getting a CDMA mobile phone on Nitel was reserved for the 'Well to do'. grin When Econet and MTN joined in, the system changed (not by telling Nitel to reduce their prices), but by the new companies offering better services than Nitel for way way less than Nitel.. Even at 35 thousand for a Sim (without Phone), it was still cheaper and better than NITELs cellphone. Naturally, even those who owned the Nitel migrated to MTN. Then amongst the 2 remaining competitors, MTN's sim was still pricier then because whilst ECONET was still in Lagos, MTN had reached Port Harcour and Warri faster. And remember that calling across networks were expensive then, so people naturally started buying more MTN than Econet..

Now one of the things that drove the price of services down was not necessarily competition alone, but also the cost of doing business reduced for most of them as they built their own exchanges and did no longer have to use Nitels overpriced and outdated equipments.. Thats when MTN built the Yellow Band project.

Now even amongst the Phone matter sef, options dey;

MTN trutalk
MTN SmoothTalk
MTN Smoothtalk Plus
MTN Zone
MTN free night call
Post-paid
Corporate.

etc.. All carry different content and the more the content, the higher the cost.. Same with Etisalat, same with Glo.. Even with the competition amongst themselves, they still will never give you 1gb data for 1 Naira, nor would Etisalat offer MTN's premium package for cheap.. Max you would see is for a few cents less than MTN. grin

I am not happy at the demise of HITV. It profits me nothing to see either company do better than the other or fail. I am a consumer and if the deal is better and well priced, I would migrate to that end.. HITV sadly didn’t get it right the first time.. Anybody coming into the market has DSTV to compete with. Unfortunately, they came late and unlike many Nigerian companies, DSTV is very forward thinking and innovative. They know they are the best and yet keep trying to outdo themselves. Maybe of a company had started with DSTV as far back as the 90's when they were not as big and as grounded, it would have been easier to break into the market.. But any company coming in now should not try to compete with DSTV but rather create their own market from scratch and stay out of DSTv's lane..

DSTV has earned their status as Kings of Cable TV in Africa.

So please forgive me if you see me supporting the DSTV business.. I am not coming from a 'well to do' perspective, I am coming from a purely business perspective and nothing else. It’s like Dangote trying to enter the cubed sugar game by getting the Federal government to force St. Louis to reduce their price.

If you use the 'Poverty Level' reason to push for the prices of DSTV to be reduced, then its only fair that we go after ALL SERVICES.. Car prices, Hotel Prices, Airline Tickets, e.t.c.. Sadly, the Science of Economics can never allow for that.

Thanks for reading this long epistle.. cool

Nigerians are so emotional and will always shy away from the truth, that is what is killing us in this country. So because DSTV is not a Nigerian company then we must sleigh them? When HITV was available we all knew the terrible service they offered, we still patronized them until they folded up... Is that dstv's fault? Dude, Nigerian or not, u can't shy away from the truth. It is left for us to work hard and create a service that will be in the same standard to that foreign company that we so much hate. Until then, DSTV will still rule. Of u can't afford DSTV premium then pay for family. If u still want afford family then buy gotv, it is still owned by multichoice. If u can't afford neither then work harder. Or go and hang urself. From what u wrote it is very obvious who is sick in the head here.
