I think whoever is involved in this okada-ban-project should understand the growth curve of a nation. We are still a developing nation. The problem is when some men get into power and steal public fund they immediately forget where they were some years back and they see those that are not as privileged as fools. A house of Assembly member and a minister of transport that sees this okada-ban-project and OKs it should be recalled because he is not representing his people but obviously himself. We are not there yet, if we want to get there it should be a 10 to 15 years project- with a road map of fixing the transport sector and integrating those whose economy is okada dependent into other sectors of the economy.

Commentators on this issue should understand that this was a decision of the National Council on Transport which comprises all the commissioners, Directors of transport and other stakeholders in the transport industry from the 36 states of the Federation and Abuja including APC and PDP states. So those blaming or praising the Federal government on this should know it is a collective decision of all the states.

so okada will make you rich. any way you did not read the entire article.
The minister for transportation merely endorsed the idea. Towards the end he clearly made all and sundry to know that phasing out okadas is a job of the thieving state governments and or local governments.
please read before you comment.
I hear you Mr Please read before you comment!. In English language what does 'endorse' mean?.

It won't happen; at least, not till after the 2015 general elections. As implementing it now may spell doom for the PDP-led FG. Meanwhile, the proposed policy isn't just being practicable now
Re: FG To Ban Commercial Motorcycles Nationwide by DollyParton1(f): 7:40am On Oct 26, 2014
My God will not allow it to happen.
How am I supposed to get around.
Re: FG To Ban Commercial Motorcycles Nationwide by Btruth: 7:42am On Oct 26, 2014
Good initiative though, but how do the government want to handle the level of unemployment that will follow? I think it should be a gradual process, like providing a scheme where most of this people can get a soft loan to purchase a taxi. Imagine some of the Mazda 323 car can be less costly to purchase, though as a tokunbo than the Keke Napep.

Revived the Textiles industries, Housing and Agricultural sectors, okada business will die naturally.Even the okada people are not happy doing that risky business
Most of the okada participants today are from this sectors.

As much as I believe okadas should be banned, my fear is 'We are not there yet'. No alternatives for now. I think there should be reliable loan scheme(at all levels of government) for youths to acquire cheap taxis so as to support livelihood since jobs aren't forthcoming, we can introduce tricycles as they are safer, but more importantly, roads should be fixed.

And this is how I think this will go:

After the ban on Okada riders, a means that gives about 1.2 million people job, this FG will then provide three 48-sitter buses to each state, after this, GEJ will go on air to announce to the world that he has given 2.5 million people job...
And that's what they call 'Fresh Air'

mr man, how did u arrive at the 1.2million figure? The way some Nigerians calculate statistics is overwhelming or are u an educated okada rider having the true list of ur fellow okada men nationwide?

Make una de suffri o...

If something major like okada is to be banned,it needs to be done over a long period of 3 to 5 years.this will give the riders time to adjust and dare I say will allow Govt put alternatives in place

Banned it in Lag. But onkt on highway/express ways besides Lagos roads are awesome , he gave them marwa or is it keke napep at subsidized rate

Gave them BRT and loads of other buses / vehicles cheaper .

Apart from the Okada rider's plight check the masses plight if or when there's no road , no cars and no Okadas.

The same government that promised to ban importation of gen in 2008 because power will be stable do we have the power ? Still went ahead and sold power holding to friends and family

The same government that prefers to pay billions of dollars to non existent petroleum refinery as opposed to building one in the country. People still queuing to buy fuel as at last week .

The same government that denied Chibok girls's capture

The government that pardoned and almost brought back Alamesiya or was it James Ibori known criminals

This same government banned #bringbackourgirls campaign only for their friends to use the slogan for their own campaign

$15 Mullion returned by south Africa , no weapons purchased and someone's probably already chopped the money. In the future Nigerian army will still have problems of weapons

The government that failed to protect the lives of Nigerians old and young in the North as opposed to their oath and constitution

The government that has not been able to rescue or negotiate the release of 200+ innocent girls for months but his in laws wedding made covers of international news

The government that believes its above the law using TAN to campaign when its not yet time to.

Fellas the future is in our hands we've seen what this one can do always leaping from mountain tops not wondering what's down below or how safe it is . We know that they don't care its as Id there's one spirit in that office that wants them to stay there forever . Let's give someone else and another party a chance .PDP has been running the nation 1999 they believe its their right to own ruin and squander let them take a break for a while. It doesn't matter what other party wins

I understand,.. But what I mean is pot calling kettle black. Look, if APC will field in Fashola, I will vote but Buhari is a big NO!

Why?

In his last election for which he failed, I was watching either silver birds or ait when a video of Buhari was televised. Buhari was telling his people up north to fight with their blood in hausa.

Since then, I have had negative feeling towards him... If he like, make him recampaign 1Million times... I will never vote for him.

Our leaders only have the head but they don't have the brain, what do you expect to come out of dullards in power, I believed they have not even ponder over what these countless Okada drivers will be doing with no job around, and not having access to the treasuries like them, our thieving leaders, they always cause unnecessary pandemonium with their policy somersault only to turn back after billions of naira have been wasted and embezzled, only God will have mercy on we masses because these vagabonds in power have no plan for anybody.

Have you thought of its adverse effect on the already poor masses? With the rate of unemployment, have u considered how unsafe the society would be if this atrocious policy is implemented? Think brother, think.....the high level of crime this will create will beyond the FGs control. If this policy is eventually implemented, it shows we have a govt that is indifferent to the plight of the masses....for crying out loud, theres enough poverty and suffering in the land, why create more...why..why? We deserve better. If GEJ knows whats best for him, he should put a stop to this
