Below are pictures taken yesterday around Agodi GRA in Ibadan. I was excited after hearing the train horn to see the transformation I have always heard about. I was surprised by what I saw. Is this the kind of trains TAN have called a part of transformation or are there others in better state that I don't know about?

Are you kidding me? This is impressive. Atleast, there is a solid foundation for modernization of the rail sector. Jeeeez! You have to crawl before you walk. Good sign. Slowly, we'll get the bullet trains and catch up with the rest of the world like we are doing in the telecom sector.

So where do you expect the federal gov't to get the tens of billions of dollars from to buy the new-age bullet trains you seem to be yearning for?

I'm sure if the President depletes our foreign reserves for this people will complain; if they transfer one or two billions of dollars from the excess crude account to the sovereign wealth fund to invest in national infrastructure, guess who will complain; if he goes and takes a loan of about 20 billion dollars, guess who will complain (the one the gov't took -on good terms- from the Chinese caused a lot of furore remember?); if they stop fuel subsidy to free more funds for capital projects, people will still complain! Also remember we're being forced to waste spend billions of dollars in the north to contain and stop these islamic jihardists (and other sinister groups taking advantage of the mayhem)......money that otherwise could have been spent on hospitals, roads, schools, railways or our airports!

So cut the guy some slack.....he's trying small!

Infact, you really don't need to be outside Nigeria to see that this is transformational. The Trains are moving, and it's a matter of time before they get modernized and move faster.

...and you can make your comment without being insolent.

U r 100% slightlymad grin , if not,u won't compare a 1st world country development with a 3rd world country. Are all your fingers equal? Of what use is a car without a road to ply?

We have an active rail system so with time, the trains will be upgraded.

Like I told you before, you really don't need to be insolent in your comments.

The trains were not moving in the past. They are moving now. capacity needs to be built before modernization can take place. The moving trains will gradually create the capacity for an evolution to better engines to take effect.

Most of the countries with advanced rail systems graced these stages of evolution before they got to the level that they are currently in. Unfortunately, NIGERIAN rail system was never updated. By bringing the rail engines back to life, there is hope for modernization of the sector.

Lemme ask you, IF NIGERIA SUDDENLY INTRODUCES A TRAIN THAT CAN GO FROM PORTHARCOURT TO KANO IN 3 HOURS WITH THE WAY INFRASTRUCTURES ARE, WILL YOU AGREE TO TAKE A RIDE?

YOU CRAWL BEFORE YOU WALK.

I agree this is really pathetic

There are two paths to follow in change. The Radical and Transformational Paths.

The likes of FASHOLA AND AMAECHI are trying to use a radical approach in bringing the urban rail systems into Nigeria. That path costs money and takes a very long time and discipline to achieve. It has taken Fashola over 7 years to conceive, design and try to bring up a "light" rail system. This is due to the need to establish capacity along with the trains. You don't just bring the trains and dump them on any track. Amaechi's "mono" rail project has grinded to a halt due to lack of funds and absence of capacity.

There is an evolutionary path where you start from the capacity you have and gradually upgrade to a higher capacity. That is the path that the federal government has chosen. They intend to bring the old trains back to life and gradually raise them to the speed trains that you yearn for. This one takes a longer time, but the stress on funds is felt less because income is generated to support the funding of the upgrades.

If you want to see true change, you must understand the nature of change. Patience is key in transformation. 8 years is not enough to introduce speed rails in Nigeria, except THE COUNTRY is ready to spend money like China is doing.

Has anyone heard of this young guy contesting for presidential election in 2015
His declaration speech;

OFFICIAL DECLARATION BY OLABODE JOHN WESLEY TO
CONTEND THE 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS THIS DAY
21st NOVEMBER; 2014 AT I.P.C NATIONAL SECRETARIAT
IN LAGOS.
Haven duly consulted and taken into consideration the
loud thoughts of Nigerian youths, it becomes very
pertinent that a Visionary Youth and Progressive
oriented leader be presented to defend their interest
and also lead our dear Nation Nigeria to the promised
land where Milk and Honey once flowed, where Peace
and Tranquillity once reigned, where Unity and
Harmony was once our tale of brotherhood and a land
where dignity was once our pride.
I hereby step forward with a one point agenda of an
EGALITARIAN SOCIETY for all; in great humility and
with formidable support from Nigerian Youth, in order
to honour the clarion call to render selfless service to
humanity without fear or favour to therefore take up
the mantle of Leadership in order to navigate an
absolute New Atmosphere of Governance.
On this note, I hereby declare my intentions to run in
the 2015 general elections as President of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria under the umbrella of the
Independent Progressive Congress of Nigeria on this
day of 21 - 11 - 2014.
Remember, It Takes Young Men of Great Courage No
Time In Transforming Their Generation.

God Bless Nigeria and Strengthen Our Youth!

I asked to be shown other ones if they exist so I could believe it is truly worthy to be called transformational. A total Change would seem like transformation. Not just some old trains hauled by coal undecided

In this Iconographic era of pissures or I don't believe it world as typified here on Nairaland, Pictures obviously are more digestible and believable than text.

Here, I did you the favor of goggling and pasting it here.

1. You mean Lagos state government's activities determines what your federal government do with Nigeria's oil wealth?

2. You mean your federal government invested billions in ancient locomotives in 2014 because Lagos state is yet to finish their metro rail project?

3. What's similar about both projects?

Is your federal government building a 10 lane freeway too?

Is your federal government building multiple brick and mortar stations too?

Is your federal government building multiple overhead bridges too?

Is your federal government building metro rail and rail bridge over the marina

Lagos Metro rail is the largest public works project in Africa as we speak, it's the kind of project sovereign nations engage in and also what your federal government can not even dare to perform.

The same road was your FG responsibility which as usual they neglected for decades so what's sweeting your unintelligent brain? Your FG failure that Lagos state is correcting?

I know many of you are ignorant and unintelligent, but Please stop displaying this rubbish openly. You even make your FG look bad and grossly incompetent...

Firstly thanks for sharing the pictures as FURTHER evidence of the good fruits of the conscientious work of the dynamic duo of Jonathan/Sambo at the federal level.
It is obvious that your excitement was due to not having seen a MOVING train for a veeeeeeeeeery loooooooooong time in Ibadan until yesterday.
However, I think it is necessary to remind ourselves the definition of the word TRANSFORM so we do not miss the train cheesy

trans·form verb \tran(t)s-ˈfȯrm\

: to change (something) completely and usually in a good way

Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/transform

The questions from people who are LOGICAL, RATIONAL and are NOT foolish or doing Moo-Moo like cows behind a cattle rearer would be:

- Were these locomotives, coaches, trains DEAD stock rotting away in the Nigeria Railway Corporation yards all across our dear country
- Have they being changed completely from their DEAD state to something GOOD and useful in a MOVING way to benefit all our fellow citizens?

Let us be very careful with our words so we do not fall PREY to the marauding wolves in sheep's clothing who have come to not only STEAL from us but also to KILL.
This federal administration has made and CONTINUES to make good progress in this vital sector of our socio-economic life and needs to be encouraged to do even MORE as there is ample room for IMPROVEMENT.

Unfortunately one cannot say the same for Lagos & Rivers states after so much media hype, praise & worship of their DELINQUENT governors over light rail and mono rail despite having annual budgets that are more than what the federal government used to budget for multiple years in the 90s shocked

You obviously can not read and comprehend..

You said your FG is doing something similar like the metro rail. So the question was.....

Is your federal government building a 10 lane freeway too with metro and BRT lanes attached too

Is your federal government building multiple brick and mortar stations too?

Is your federal government building multiple overhead bridges too?

Is your federal government building metro rail and rail bridge over the marina...
