This is what you should expect when most of our reporters and editors are SSCE holders or graduates of other fields. How many of them read Journalism? most of them by chance found themselves reporting for a medium, They don't really have passion for the profession which would definitely make learning difficult for them.

Thanks so much Op. As an upcoming journalist, I will with all energy available take into cognizance the pointed mistakes and corrections.

Nigeria is a compilation of numerous ethnic nations, we were united to form one country and english is the official language, we have all fallen to it to communicate with one another. pidgin is even there for quicker and more convenient communication.

Communication is what language is all about, Nigerians are getting information explicitly that is what is important, not some guidelines from Britian.
English in Britian has been changing since time immemorial, english in medival times is different from english now.
If english can change in Britian why cant it change in Nigeria?

how does this deviation help your argument or counter mine? Drop your points and stop asking yeye questions.
I am ashamed of reading the points a glorified 'Grammarian" is putting forward. You mentioned about culture and I was quick to remind you that other English speaking countries like US, Australia, Canada, NZ, etc stuck to English because they've no other viable language to fall on. In our case, if you have to present language as a culture why don't we go back to what we speak and write in, before the colonial years.
Do you mean we should invent our own Nigerian English? Why would we when we have got Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa?
Mate, stop defending those semi-literate journalists or are you one of them Change is one thing constant in this world and when English evolves, all English speaking countries should adapt, when they lag-behind, they would rather appear ill-informed. Don't tell me we should invent our English or stick to the blunders we yell everyday when change is constant, if English is much of a problem to you, swerve to Igbo or Yoruba whichever is easiest for you to escape blunders in.

lol. i tell U. So annoying. Others like-Impeccable source, or a source who pleaded anonymity. Though, one of the principles of journalism is CONFIDENTIALITY but our reporters are over doing it. In order to give your story CREDIBILITY, beg your source for PUBLICITY. Or just let the story and act like someone who put into importance, the spirit of OBJECTIVITY..., ×shikena× .

This surely must be one of the most grammatically incorrect expressions.........

Presenter: hello caller

Caller: hello

Presenter: please, kindly turn down the volume of your Tv set

When the correct expression is tune down the volume...

Is The language yours? If you must speak a language, speak like the owner of the language. You may not have the accent but the grammar/technicalities must be revered.

English is not made in Nigeria, so there is nothing like "this is Nigeria for you".

Speak English the way it should be spoken.
But do you know we now have "Englishes"?
Re: 10 Most Annoying Nigerian Media English Expressions. by AllNaijaBlogger(m): 10:36am On Nov 26, 2014
Seriously?

This op is very very very elitist and ridiculous!!

Even UK and USA newspapers have their grammatical idiosyncrasies

3.“As at the time of filing this report:” Well, the correct expression, which is actually a fixed prepositional phrase, is “AS OF,” not “as at.” So, that sentence should read: “As of the time of filing this report.” This solecism has sadly percolated deep into the conventions of Nigerian English in general

See the nonsense the op is saying?

"As at the time of" is actually grammatically correct and more applicable to the sentence.

"at" is more applicable than "of" when talking about time- eg-

-at what time do you close?
-It was at 10pm he died.

And to see that many Nairalanders are supporting this ridiculous op! Wow. English is dead

Nonsense! Do you expect us to speak english exactly like the british? This is Nigeria and thats Nigerian english for you.
I expected you to criticize their horrible accents.
Horrible accents?
Do you know you can't speak without "an accent"? American,British,Jamaican, etc are accents which you don't see as horrible right?

Nice observations and clarifications... But sometime, you need to bring in the archaic into the contemporary to give a didactic blend to your news. So except for the grammatically incorrect, I see nothing wrong with the archaic since they are are used to pass a message in the hope of a better understanding by the reader. Once there is the understanding, there is communication and media outlets churn out news in such a way that a "mass people" get the message being passed, hence we have mass communication as another name for journalism.
You did very well in spotting all that and you should keep it up.
I was afraid to post in English because you would spot one or two from ma post too. If u do, explain to me in pidgin, not English. Lafs
