GOV. JIM NWOBODO, ANAMBRA STATE

Was jailed for 22 years for corruption by the Military tribunal in 1984.

Set against this is his record of corruption and abuse of office as governor in the Second Republic. Convicted for an array of corrupt practices by Gen. Buhari’s tribunals, the indictment of Jim Nwobodo by Air Vice-Marshal Muktar Mohammed and the dressing-down given him for sordid acts of corruption remain embedded in the memory of those who thought we had “”progressive” governors in Nigeria. After his release and subsequent appointment as minister he has been associated with one scandal or the other.
This was also captured in the book "Civil-military Relations, Nation Building, and National Identity"

AFTER REALEASE:
He was released by the Babangida Administration. Jim Nwobodo was at the forefront of Abacha's Life Presidency and led party Chieftains in Presidential jet to adopt Abacha as the party flagbearer at the twilight of Abacha's rule.
Of Nwobodo’s scandalous moments, the one the nation should neither forget nor forgive was his role at the Maiduguri convention of the Grass roots Democratic Movement in the twilight of Abacha’s lifetime. Flying in with members of the party’s executive council and security officers in a presidential jet from Abuja, Nwobodo ensured that the party’s constitution was illegally amended, and rammed through the election of Abacha, who was not even a party member, as the party’s flagbearer in forthcoming phantom elections (which were designed to succeed phantom coups, phantom crusades against corruption and phantom external reserves)

He subsequently played a major role in the so-called two million man march (the Jamboree of the Abacha-must-stay acolytes) and remained an integral part of the squandering of the riches of this country on the dictator’s desperate bid at self-succession.http://www.gamji.com/sanusi/sanusi3.htm

He is a member of PDP.

GOVERNOR ABBA MUSA RIMI, KADUNA STATE
On 28 March 1985 a Special Military Tribunal sentenced Rimi to 21 years in jail for corruptly enriching 96 legslators of the State House of Assembly by N500,000. Rimi said he had given the money to the legislator "for keeping the law and order in their constituencies"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abba_Musa_Rimi

RELEASE:
Rimi was released by General Ibrahim Babangida. He joined the People's Democratic Party in 1998 and vied for President in 2003 under the PDP platform.

GOVERNOR AWAAL MUHAMMED IBRAHIM, NIGER STATE

He was convicted by the military tribunal for corrupt practices in 1984. Released by IBB and barred from holding political office by the IBB regime in 1986. He was appointed Emir of Suleja in 1993 amid protest by Sulejas. He was kicked out of the Emir Stool in 1994. In 2000, he was reappointed Emir by the PDP Governor Abdulkadir Kure in 2000.

GOVERNOR AMBROSE ALI, BENDEL STATE
Fmr. Bendel Governor Ambrose Alli was jailed for 100years for misappropriating funds belonging to Bendel State to the tune of N983,000. The Money was meant for road project but he donated it to his Party. He was later freed when Sir Gabriel Igbenedion paid fine to the Government. Ambrose Ali had claimed that it was the contractor incharge of the road project that GAVE him the money to give to his party-Which he did.
The Military Tribunal found him guilty for diverting State's money to his party.
Ali's Son still maintained that it was the contractor that Gave him(Ali).
Sir Gabriel Igbenedion paid a fine to have Ali regain freedom

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrose_Folorunsho_Alli#Later_career
ACCORDING to his Son
“Also, he was tried for several things. Even the tribunal could not find him guilty of corruptly enriching himself or any other individual. Rather, he was found guilty of ‘corruptly enriching his political party’ – and, unlike what some think, he didn’t give state funds to the UPN. Rather, a campaign contribution was given to the UPN treasurer in Bendel State by a contractor to the Bendel State Government. Dad accepted that as UPN chairman in the state and the chief executive of the state he was responsible, even though he himself did not personally accept or disburse the money.

VICE PRESIDENT ALEX EKWEME
Brig. Tunde Idiagbon told reporters Thursday that the stockpiles of money ranged from $56,000 found at the home of former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, to $4.5 million at the residence of the last civilian governor of Kono State, Alhaji Sabo Bakin Zuwo.
http://www.nytimes.com/1984/01/21/world/around-the-world-nigeria-says-it-recovers-millions-from-ex-aides.html

AFTER RELEASE:
He became a founding member of the PDP and had vied for the Presidency unsuccessfully in 1999.

GOV ADAMU ATTAH, KWARA STATE
The political godson of Dr Olusola Saraki was convicted of corruption by Military special tribunal in 1984.

According to Historian, Max Siollun
Although the harsh sentences and nature of the tribunals were criticised, it is arguable that Nigeria needed these Nuremberg style trials in order to free itself from its corrupt past. The era of Buhari and Idiagbon was the first, and only time that Nigerian public officials were tried, and held accountable for their actions in office
However the controversy surrounding the tribunals’ composition created enough justification for Babangida to release the jailed politicians without the public asking whether irrespective of the nature of the tribunals, the defendants were actually guilty of the offences they were convicted of.

MESSERS NDUKA IRABOR AND TUNDE THOMPSON
It was a crime as at then by decree 4 for journalists/print to publish misleading story about the government.
On July 4, 1984, the Guardian Newspaper and two of its journalists Tunde Thompson, then Senior Diplomatic Correspondent and Nduka Irabor, who was Assistant News Editor, became the first victims of this very obnoxious decree.
The two journalists were eventually jailed for one year without an option of fine! Guardian Newspapers was fined Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00). They had published in The Guardian of April 1 & 8, 1984 stories with the headlines “Eight Military Chiefs Tipped as Ambassadors” and “Haruna to Replace Hannaniya”(Which was misleading as at then).

AFTER RELEASE:
Irabor would later become the press officer to Babangida’s deputy and in June 1993. would stain his name forever by allowing it to be associated with the gravest electoral event in Nigeria’s history when he circulated a statement annulling the results of the June 1993 presidential election won by Chief MKO Abiola.

GUARDIAN:
Surprisingly, it was the same GUARDIAN that attributed FALSELY this statement by Alhaji Lawal Kaita to Muhammadu Buhari in 2011
“Anything short of a Northern President is tantamount to stealing our Presidency. Jonathan has to go and he will go. Even if he uses the incumbency power to get his nomination on the platform of the PDP, he would be frustrated out.”
North is determined, if that happens, to make the country ungovernable for President Jonathan or any other Southerner who finds his way to the seat of power on the platform of the PDP against the principle of the party’s zoning policy.dailyindependentnig.com/2012/06/making-nigeria-ungovernable-for-president-jonathan/
Some time in 2010 lawal kaita said that the north is determined to bring up a president that if Goodluck Jonathan Should force his way on nigerians then the north is determined to make the country ungovnorable for him. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawal_Kaita
But again apologised to the General after pleading for out of court settlement dailypost.ng/2013/01/13/presidency-begs-buhari-to-settle-slander-case-out-of-court/

The Apology
GUARDIAN Re: For the attention of General Buhari
Thursday, 11 July 2013 00:00 Editor
SIR: “On April 22, 2011, The Guardian Newspaper
published an article on page 51 titled “For the attention of General Buhari” wherein certain allegations were made against General Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged role in the violence emanating from the elections. The publication was based on information which we believed to be reliable at that time. Since the publication, however, we now have reason to believe that certain parts of the story were not verified to be correct before the publication.
We assure General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) GCFR of our highest esteem and regret any distress or embarrassment which the said publication may have
caused him.”

Majority of the politicians had performed no doubt, but if they weren't corrupt, they wouldn't have been convicted. All those propagandist that accused Buhari tribalism in his anti-corruption fight should have to have a rethink. In his own words

“I am not interested in sending people to jail. When I was in government, those that went to jail were those who did not conduct themselves properly.
“I did not just go to the street to pick anybody and send to jail. But those who have made our country this way, who were interested in the billions of naira while our people roam the streets without jobs will answer for it,
--- Gen Muhammadu Buhari 2011.

The core of the Northern Elite do not like Buhari, because they are very corrupt and hobnob daily with this Government! I see no reason why all the past and present Northern Governors shouldn't rock jail, why..The Man is facing a lot of Demons I swear!

Wole Soyinka served as Road Safety Chairman under IBB, yet he wasn't corrupt nor controversial. Buhari served as PTF(Special) boss under Abacha's administration, he wasn't corrupt nor contriversial. This is why they are antagonising him, and why we must all stand beside him. The Northerners were most of the victims(convicts) and had most years in jail. eg Alhaji Sabon was given 300 years imprisonment

Time and again, their relentless and shameful tactics to smear the image of the General forcing the public to see in him a religiously intolerant man and an ethnic bigot.
