@Shawbabe: please read Olhars post o! To be forewarned is to be forearmed! The financial counsellor in Gwinnett categorically told me the prices had been reviewd upwards and the new prices she was quoting we're making my head reel! And to think I had already got a Gwinnett Dr and was to see him that day. I quickly called and cancelled and went for a cheaper option of hospital! Biko I no fit wash hospital linens to pay bill. 14k ke ! For normal delivery? When people payed less than 5k all in all just less than a month h!
Lol na wa o. Gwinnett sef

This is coming in late but thought to give back to the forum from which I drew loads of information and inspiration.
I flew Emirates at 32weeks plus , from check in till I got off the aircraft the treatment was fantastic,I requested a wheel chair after they had requested for my fit to fly letter and certificate from port health... Was wheeled into the aircraft first, settled in,was given a pillow to support my tummy, tucked in and belted up by the flight attendant... The other people on the seats beside me came but they were given other seats ,so I had 3seats to myself, tons of pillows & all, when I got tired I gently lifted all d arm rests and formed a bed....In Dubai was taken to their lounge to stretch till it was time for my flight...same treatment all the way...got to Boston and here's my experience
CBP: hi
Me: Hello
CBP: why are you here
Me: shopping and to have my first Baby
CBP:say that again
Me: To have my baby
CBP:why would you come to have your baby in the US
Me:I thought to spare no expense in seeking superior medical attention because this is my first child
cBP:How much do you have
Me:approx 9400usd
CBP: is that what you intend to pay your bills with
Me: For starters yes, I also have some more money in my Debit card reserved for this purpose
CBP:Mam you are going to have to step aside, I will get someone to be with you
Me: Not a problem.. Then the wait began, at this point I rolled out my arsenal and was waiting patiently eventually some other officer came to get me and directed me to their "inner room" saw some other people there...waited till I was called, and the guy asked me same questions this time I passed the documents to him then graciously gave him a response, after I had passed like 4 different ones he had to ask what I had in the envelope I told him supporting docs and photocopies, he requested for it then I handed it,when e see burden of proof e self know..I had my payslips, letter of consent from my husband, with his work Ias and complimentary card attached, passport data page, his visa page, wedding photo, marriage cert, letter of appointment with MIHS,Maternity Package Agreeement document, chat with Telegate Americas and email from US embassy informing them of my intention,Accomodation reservation...
CBP:is your husband coming too ,
Me:Yes in Feburary when the Baby is expected
CBP :how long will he stay
Me:2weeks, he would not be able to stay longer because of work pressures
cBP:where are you going to be staying, When would you be headed to phoenix
Me:today, I have a connecting flight out of Boston by 5pm
(After that he looked and read through all the Docs.he had in his hands. he asked where do I work told him,and then I asked would you like to see my work ID? He said no.. )
CBP: what foodstuffs do you have, you have grains I answered yes Beans dry and powdered beans, deboned dry fish and spices.
CBP: As you have been told by the department of states you are not doing anything wrong just ensure your bills are all paid and have your receipts on you next time.
Me: will do , Thank you very much
CBP: Congratulations and All the best

That was my experience o my people, my bags were not searched or disorganised.reporting live from my bed in Phoenix Arizona.

"Burden of proof' are the documents you take along for your visa interview and when traveling. It is to support your visa application and to convince the custom and boarder countrol officers at point of entry (POE) that your intentions are what you say they are and to also show that you have made adequate preperations and arrangement
Yes the consent letter from your husband is neccessary when applying for the new born babys american passport..
i will advice you to try and read as much as you can of this thread,it will educate you a great deal.. Its importance cant be over emphasised.

Nooooo! Why is your POE Chicago?! Chicago is one of the most self centred POE in US! Was in Chicago for a while till 2 weeks ago, and and all the POE stories I heard while there were all negative! I don't even know what they are feeling like! Once they hear 'have a baby' they become hostile. My cousins have a few preggie friends that have been sent back at chicago POE, even with cash and all that!

@nefertitiram

See me o, my initial booking was dallas as poe but with sleep over at Heathrow. Wakanow called me and said I could not use that since I don't have a UK visa. So I had to change to sleepover at Chicago. I had read somewhere in this thread that Chicago is a stress free poe. I will just pray for favour. Nothing God cannot do.

House, pls anyone who has had a successful poe at chicago pls advice on what to watch out for at Chicago POE.

The last I checked! You don't need a visa for stopover in UK.
Anyways, you are a daughter of Zion, you will overcome them!

It was not until about 21st ago I went to BE to confirm my booking that I was told I didn't need a UK visa. I was pissed. These agents sometimes are not up to their game. The initial dallas flight was about 7k cheaper. From ur experience any advice on the poe?

You can print out the consent form from the us govt passport application site. It is suppose to be signed by yourhusband and also by a notary public.

Hello Gfavour, don't worry but just pray for God's favour. I went in tru Chicago in August. I got my visa for vacation purpose while I was still single and never used it for that purpose cos I got married not long afterwards. After we decided to av our baby in d US I wrote to d embassy to inform them.

When we got to Chicago (my hubby, my mum and I) and d CBP g heard child birth, he sent us for secondary inspection andd we waited for about an hour cos I guess they needed to see my interview transcript to verify what I told them durin my interview.

Also d reason for my hubby's trip was to witness d birth of our baby and he told d VO that during d interview in Lagos. They checked that too in Chicago. Afterwards we were all stamped in for 6months. No bag was checked as well.

Hi, well, most of d doctors in Chicago will prefer you walk in and review u before they take up your case. You need an ob/gyn 1st this will determine d hosp u will use.

Chicago is a medical city, there r like a million hosps in every corner, sometimes like 6 on 1 street. The cheapest I found is St Joseph, but I hear cook county general hosp is also cheap and good.
Then in the south suburbs, there is Ingalls Health Systems in Harvey Illinois, they give up to 40-60% discounts for self pay patients.
Other hosps around are mostl on the same platform as St Joseph (Presence group).

The only Ob/gyn I was referred to will not give an appointment. They don't even reply to emails.

Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Saved2Serve: 8:25pm On Dec 20, 2014
it was list of documents i feel they deem so important.....most of them we hv mentioned here. pls let me add here, try and get a reference letter from ur bank addressed to the US embassy, plus make sure your bank statement comes out in color, notarized n stamped by the bank. for me, they didn't see my 6mill balance. the vo just looked constantly on the page that had not more than 30k transactions. in all we got 2yrs visa...

@ Babatwi, tnx a lot. We actually went those documents for interview (me, hubby n kids) but the interview didn't even ask for anything. The visa was for family vacation though n I wasn't pregnant at the time but my hubby as the sponsor has decided to write the embassy to let them know of our intention to use the visa for bathing as well. But the big thing for me here is that I will be going alone since the kids will be doing their exams at the time n hubby will come with them like 2 wks to EDD.

Contrary to what some might think Chicago poe was more or less a breeze for me. Got to chicago about 2 weeks ago (Turkish Airlines) Ours was the only flight that arrived by that time (6pm chicago time).
The flight was quite long so when I got to the airport I had to freshen up. As I was retouching my makeup I was just declaring the word. Favour favour favour.
When I was done there wasnt even a queue. So I just walked straight to an available cpb officer that looked nice. The man did not even ask me anything o. He just collected my passport, finger printed, took my picture and stamped me in till june next year. It was as if the guy was tired and cudnt wait to go home. Ive been going to chicago yearly for the past 7yrs so I guess he just thot twus my normal yearly vacation.
I thot I was dreaming o. Its really cold in chicago so I had to wear heavy clothing. I guess he probly dint notice or he was just being lazy. I thank God all the same.
May your poe experience be smoother than mine. Amen

You are so right. So many hospitals. I found a cheaper hospital but im not sure about the doctors fee.
Mount Sinai Hospital fee is $2000 for vaginal for self paying patients and it covers all hospital related fee, aneasthesiologist, 2 days hospital stay for both mother and baby. This is no advert.

Are you in Chicago? Im yet to get a quote from an obgyn and pediatrician. You can look into it as well.
