Thing is many people will wanna go to Abuja and Lagos forgetting that there's too much competition there.

Their reason is always "To get a good life and better opportunity"....

But they fail to acknowledge the fact that in such places, once you don't know someone that "is willing to help" you don't go near there.

You can still get what you're looking for in other states.

If only corpers will understand this, then the high number of corpers in such states will reduce thus reducing the challenges faced by corpers there...

Connections can be gotten anywhere you serve once you play your cards right

90% of corp members posted to Abuja influence or pay money to be posted to Abuja. I don't see any reason why someone would want to serve in a place like Abuja and Lagos without having plans for his accommodation and PPA. The problem with Abuja is their the number of Corpers posted there are more than the available PPA so the ones without connection get rejected. There are many states in Nigeria in need of corpers with decent accommodations and low cost of living but most corpers would rather want go serve in Abuja and lagos. I served in Enugu and it was a really nice experience for me. Most of us in Enugu got good accommodation and PPA and rejection rate was very low. Prospective corpers should stop influencing their posting to lagos and abuja without having good plans for PPA and accommodation.
I agree with you completely. See OP telling girls had to sleep with so and so for so and so. Any girl that slept around wanted to. I hate hearing "had to" when it comes to sleeping around. Rubbish, see how people strive, lie and deceive just to serve in Abuja Lagos and Port Harcourt and now he wants our pity? Pity has expired for 2014, try again in 2015

@ OP.
It is so sad and pathetic and as for me i wont suggest F.C.T, lagos or Port to any one.

In addition,
You totally destroyed Nlndr article posting rules
I am wondering if you are a true graduate (or writing this on behalf of someone) because i am puzzled by your write up as it is a little incoherent with lots of gramatical errors and points repetition.
Please ensure you edit an article before you post such items online because such mass errors in a small article like this does not speak well of our graduates because people from other part of the world are reading this.

Thank you.

This goes without saying that u can't eat ur cake and have it...The ratio of corp members in abj and lagos to the available ppa's is too high... Perhaps 7:3.If u didnt make arrangements for accommodation and ppa,you can redeploy to kano.I'm serving there and I stay alone in a 4 bedroom semi-detached house provided by a govt sec schl.

Thank God I didn't serve. Got an exemption. Meanwhile, sometimes I c some old guys and ladies still wearing dat khaki claiming to b Corpers, and ds are people am sure are above 30yrs. Does it mean dey so love ds nysc tn and den rejected to b exempted or is it dat my eyes dey deceive me with their possible age? Meanwhile,I think nysc has outlived its purpose. Its a waste of time of vibrant youths who r sent to suffer, and after d one year suffering, dwy continue to suffer without hood jobs.
God help us.

Am a batch A corp member serving in one remote area in Kwara state and I must tell you that my service year has been a wonderful and a memorable one so far because I was giving free accommodation in my PPA and also they are paying me 5k every month and also like august the state govt starts paying us 5k too every month but they later stoped after the batch c passed out and I must tell you that must of the other corp members has a very good savings. What am saying in essence is that sometimes is very good to serve in a remote area sometimes so as to cut cost of accommodation, transport and some other things. If not that am not the type that really knows how to save I would have save like close to 150k too. But i'm the type that travel very well so that's the reason why am not having enough savings. My advice to prospective corp members especially broke guys/girls is not to influence ur posting to places like Lagos or Abuja because you'll end up having a miserable service year.

Oh, you are waiting for Christmas package from the ministry where you are currently serving? iLaugh
Were you begged to influence your posting to Abuja? Didn't you see other states like Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Cross River or Delta? Now that it doesn't favour you, you expect us to pity you abi? My advice: endure the hard times, stop complaining, serve your father land, register for professional courses afterall its not going to last forever. Not all corps members share your sentiments, some are enjoying their service year to the fullest.

N.B. If you want to serve in cities like Port Harcourt, Abuja, Lagos, make sure you have a PPA that will absorb you easily so that you dont come back here to whine and murmur

Most corp memebers influence their posting to place they think they can be superior, places like abj, phc and lagos.. U think of accomdation and good PPA when u have such plan in mind.. I'm currently serving in cross river, ikom precisely.. We have afordable and good accomadation , some PPA's even provide accomdation..some corp members even have more than 2 paying PPA's.. Most corpers save 100k and above after POP.. indigene are also helping.. When it comes to need

Please allow God to choose a place to serve for you. I served many years ago in a rural area in North West Nigeria. We were well taken care of, nice and cheap accommodation and there was even little competetion for our services there. My village people up till now still provide free accommodation for corps members with mattresses, buckets, kitchen utensil and some simple household appliances. They even contribute Kerosine, palm oil, yams and garri for them. And the students also assist them cultivate some crops at a piece of land allocated to the corps members for farming. I always envy corps members posted to my villa.

Most times, corpers don't know what it takes to serve in abuja until it hits them.

First, look beyond govt established posting. U can liase with a private institution or biz owner(sometimes they pay more than d so called govt agencies)

Abuja is very good for hussling. As a young graduate, u need exposure. Exposure gets u connected. U can go to anywhere and buy goods, then with ur corper uniform or any identity, comfortably enter buildings and do ur marketing. As u r marketing, u r making ur survey and friends too.

During my time, lots of guys used people's shops ass ppa address and of course with no payment and hussled.
By d time we finished, these guys were semi made. Some got good appointments.

I redeployed to abuja after camp cause I was about getting married there.
My strategy was selling.
I will present my best smiles to megards and friendly banter, summon courage and enter a big parastal or institution to sell. Don't be shy. They love hardworking corpers and will do anything to help u.
Also quickly join ur church and make ur presence known. Market there too.

O yes, u r supposed to suffer at times.
Who didn't? I hv trekked from area one flyover to berger cos I don't hv money but that doesn't deter me.
I got what I wanted at last.
Remain focused. Remove ur mind from govt allowee and job and u will see urself climbing steadily cos it will make u think, plan and strategise.
All d best.

TEZT:
I am a corp member serving in one of the ministry of works in Abuja. The suffering that is been experienced by corp members is something that needs an urgent attention. It starts after the camp when you will be posted to a ministry or a government parastatals and you will be rejected while corp members that are been posted to other places that they find not favourable to them collect rejection letter and had to come to the ministry that has been rejecting corp members only to be accepted all because he/she knows the perm sec or one of the directors and the rejected corp member will now have to be searching everywhere to get a place to serve which take more that 2 to 3 months after camp sometimes as if you one is looking for a job. The most annoying part of it is that Ministries or organisations that are paying corpers very well will never accept corpers on neutral ground or else you already have an in house person to "runz" it for you.
To really survive most times, some of the female corp members had to sleep around with senior staff to get some cash to keep themselves up and the male also cleaning the staff "shoes" to get peanuts to survive and some even go as far as following the female corpers around to buy them lunch which might be their last meal for the day.

As for me in the ministry where i'm serving as a batch B corp member, we have not been giving a dime from the ministry since inception of service with them and it was even so worse for them that they can't give us anything for christmas package and the N19800 from NYSC will not come until 9-11th of the next month.

Even my friends that are been posted to other states are actually having a nice time where they are and the funniest part of it is that when friend learnt that you are been posted to the FCT, they will be hailing you that you "don hammer".

My questions now are:-

1. While will a federal government agency will be rejecting an NYSC corp member which also is a Federal government project?

2. Must we know someone in one of the ministries to be able to serve our father's land now?

3. How do they want us to survive without any form of inducement to corp members from some of these ministries?
some are lucky nd some aint?

It serves them right, virtually everybody is crying corruption but fails to ask; who is corrupt? For u to influence your service to abuja or wherever, it means u are corrupt.... Everybody is influencing his/her service to choice place because u have somebody in nysc headquarters. The question is: what becomes the fate of those who do not have or know anybody to influence their service? Pls let those posted to abuja, rivers or lagos stop crying foul or complaining else sango will spit fire on them. Na dem carry their hand choose their fate.
