sammyomotola:still wrong. the answer is (e). the bleaching agent use to bleach his hat can easily undergoes oxidation due to atmospheric oxygen and sun light. thus such bleaching agent must have bleached the hat by reduction and oxidation reaction will be more efficient in reversing it bleaching effect. undoubtedly, the bleaching agent used to bleach Musa's hat is sulphur (iv) oxide which bleach by reduction. |

QUESTIONS (1)25cm³ of HCl was used to neutralize 50cm³ of 0.5M solution of Sodium Hydroxide, calculate the concentration of the Acid. let + indicate acid and -indicate Base (CV)+/(CV)-=a/b mole equation of reaction HCl + NaOH→ NaCl + H2O C×25cm³/0.5M×50cm³=1/1mol (cross multiple ) C=50cm³×0.5M/25cm³=1M (2) The pH of an Acid is 1.8, find the concentration of hydrogen ion in the Acid. (hint 1.6×10ⁿ) pH=1.8 ( Acidic) pH= —logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration to base 10 log[H+]= –1.8= –2+0.2=pronounced bar 2.2 (with the first digit (2) having a pronounced bar, hence the characteristics of the log and the other the mantassi) Now find the antilog of pronuonced bar 2.2: ignore the characteristics find the antilog of the mantassi 2 from antilog table or simply punch 10^0.2 on a calc. you will get 1.5849. H+= 1.58×10–2 NB:pronounced bar 2 will give a negative two as the power of the antilog of pronounced bar 2.2 in standard form, thus, H+= 1.6×10–2 |

Plz help me out with diz A radiaoactive substance has a halflife of 80days if the initial no of atoms in the sample is 6x10^10.How many atoms will remain at the end of 320days. Fankz In advance |
Re: Nairaland Jamb Tutorial Centre {chemistry Thread} by mathefaro(m): 8:48am On Dec 30, 2014 |
VEVEDIHNO:first and foremost, what is half life? the time required for one half the atoms of a given amount of a radioactive substance to disintegrate. So to your question, since the half life of the substance is 80 days, at the end of the first 80 days, half of the initial number of atoms must have decayed to remain 3 x 10^10 atoms, after another 80days(160 days altogether), 1.5 x 10^10 will be left, after 240 days, 0.75 x 10^10 then at the end of 320 days, 0.375 x 10 ^10 = 3.75 x 10^9atoms will remain. |

Re: Nairaland Jamb Tutorial Centre {chemistry Thread} by mathefaro(m): 5:16am On Jan 02, 2015 |
icecalm:C + O2 --> CO2 from the equation, it can be seen that 1 mole of C will yield 1 one mole of CO2, then changing to mass and volume respectively as required by the question; 12g of C = 22.4dm3 of CO2, so 5g of C = x; x = (22.4 * 5)/12 x = 9.3333dm3 == 9333.3cm3 since 1dm3 = 1000cm3 |

Please someone should help me with this. What are positrons? their structure and function. |
Re: Nairaland Jamb Tutorial Centre {chemistry Thread} by mathefaro(m): 10:48am On Jan 03, 2015 |
HercJay:positron, also called positive electron, positively charged subatomic particle having the same mass and magnitude of charge as the electron and constituting the antiparticle of a negative electron. Positrons are emitted in the positive beta decay of proton-rich (neutron-deficient) radioactive nuclei and are formed in pair production, in which the energy of a gamma ray in the field of a nucleus is converted into an electron-positron pair. They are also produced in the decays of certain short-lived particles, such as positive muons. Positrons emitted from man-made radioactive sources are used in medical diagnosis in the technique known as positron emission tomography(PET). |
