When you fast,you are setting yourself apart and putting your body to subjection.Sexual intercourse is not allowed during that time because it is one of the denials of the body you do.
As a newly wed,you don't have to partake in a general fast.I learn't the RCCG have started a 40day fast and the instruction from Pastor Adeboye is that newly-weds and the elderly(over 70yrs) are exempt.

The bible is crystal clear, it states clearly that only by mutual consent do you deny each other of se-x and it shouldn't be for too long. The churches should not ruin marriages with their own doctrines. If you both decide to fast and pray it must be by mutual consent and not one partners decision.

There is nowhere in my post that i said it's a decision one person takes in a marriage.I believe couples should be of one mind concerning spiritual matters.It is expected that the fasting should be by mutual consent.

I think the mix up is What is classified as the duration of the fast:

Taking the last year fast as an example, the duration can be the 100days or 6 - 6pm they fast daily.

If they fast 6-6pm,then they can make love in the night.if the fasting is a 100days,I don't expect them not to touch each other at all throughout except dem be G.O.
If however they decide on a 3day fast or even one week of total abstinence,then they are welcome(by mutual consent).

There is always someone who is the spiritual head.It could be the husband(or the wife),a pastor,a fellowship leader etc.It depends on who you choose to make your spiritual leader but someone takes responsibility for spiritual direction/mentorship in an individual's life or couple.I know we have the Holy Spirit but the bible also says we should not forsake the assembly of the brethren.
I understand many people(I guess you inclusive),have a lot of issues with pastors(especially Nigerian pastors).The truth remains that spiritual mentorship cannot be discarded.
