Peter Obi Tackles Soludo by Onyi42(m): 2:51am On Jan 27, 2015
Former governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi
has dismissed Soludo as a man hunted by his
past for stating that he (Obi) built no signature
project in Anambra State during his tenure.
Speaking through his Media Assistant, Mr.
Valentine Obienyem, Obi described the article by
Professor Charles Soludo as full of evidence of
one who is still nursing deep hatred against
those he wrongly assumed were responsible for
not renewing his appointment as the Governor of
the Central Bank and those that thwarted his
move towards becoming the Governor of
Anambra State last year.
Obienyem in his response agreed with some vital
points raised by Soludo but regretted that the
aim of the write-up was not to instruct or
contribute to positive national discourse, but to
hit back at those he is nursing secret grudges
against.
Obienyem recalled how Soludo in 2013, said he
was the foundation upon which the new
Anambra State was built, and went on to
commend him on how he changed the fortunes
of the state.
He wondered why Soludo would just turn around
so soon to declare that the tragedy of Obi’s
tenure was that he built no signature project by
which his regime would be remembered but
saved money in the midst of hunger thereby
impoverishing the people of the State.
Obienyem said it was surprising that a renowned
economist as Soludo, who in the same write up,
prided himself of saving $45billion in the nation’s
external reserves when he was the Central Bank
Governor in the same article should condemn Obi
for saving money for Anambra State, questioning
the wisdom of savings where there were things
that needed to be done.
“When he said he saved $45bn, does it mean
that at that time Nigeria’s problems were over?
Now oil price is falling and state’s allocation are
bound to fall, Soludo should be told that the
money Obi saved will be used to cushion the
effect, among others reasons for states to save
at all times. He also talked about clearing
Nigerian debts without acknowledging that the
architect of it is Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who is
still part of Jonathan’s Government”.
On Obi leaving no signature project, Obienyem
said that Soludo merely displayed his ignorance
of what true development is, insisting that
development is nothing if it does not involve the
totality of man.
“Talking about signature project, Obi has them in
abundance. He built over 30 bridges, built the
State Secretariat, built the teaching hospital,
built the permanent site of the Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu-Ojukwu University, rebuilt Iyienu,
Borromeo hospitals, Holy Rosary and St Joseph
hospitals; and Our Lady of Lourdes among many
hospitals with signature structures dotting them.
“Beyond the foregoing”, Obienyem continued,
“Soludo should be told that Obi did much more in
areas that are far more important than mere
structures. He returned schools to the Church
and committed billions that could build any form
of signature project of Soludo’s imagination.
Because of this, Anambra State is today the
number one in external examinations in the
country.
Moreover, he changed the psyche of the people
of the State and removed Anambra State from
her pariah status to one of the exemplary States
in the country.”
Regretting how unstable Soludo has become in
his opinions, Obienyem said that the same
Soludo, on the Tuesday, the 23rd of July, 2013
described Mr. Peter Obi, during the memorial
thanksgiving mass at St Theresa’s Catholic
Church, Isuofia, in honour of Soludo’s mother-in-
law , as a man of destiny whose disciplined and
God-fearing life has insured his success in life.

The North speak with one mind but sowed a seed
of discord among others, especially the West. That
is why the West are the ones saying 'Let's
reason'. Very soon the heat will fall on the West
then they will understand that Nigeria politics is
beyond their reasoning. Until the interior meaning
of change is understood the West and some other
parts of the country will remain in fool paradise

Soludo is just bitter and frustrated....Thank God he didn't win the election because the man might end up wasting our meagre resources in one useless so called signature project. This just tells me soludo is myopic and clueless. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Nwanne wetuo obi biko.
Inasmuch as Prof is wrong on his assertions about Obi's developmental project we don't need to throw away the baby with the bathing water.

The interest of Omabala is far above every other interest and every gland of hair standing on the head of every Omanbala count to us, tone it down bro this is Alan Greenspan of our time your using these words on.

Am not on the page with him over his tirade on Obi but I know Prof must have been emotional in his judgement which nearly mar his masterpieces.

Wetou obi biko na Omanbala erika

Nice and good response cool

If Soludo had presented his view without condemning any person and praising the disgraceful OBJ, he might have being called to help GEJ's government

Soludo and Oby Ekwesili are not wise political technocrats.

A wise political technocrat avoids taking side but present his views in an apolitical way in order to appear as a good tool in the hands of any politician whether ruling or opposition. cool

I am suprised that anyone would reply to Soludo, who is probably bitter that President Jonathan did not help rig him into power as Yar'adua had planned to do before his death.

He is bitter with Obi for being the beneficiary of a free and fair election that attested to his unpopularity.

Obi, to me is the father of modern democracy in Anambra state and where he is today, a thousand Chukwuma Soludos are praying to be.

I support Jonathan 100% for reelection. My view is that Jonathan should indeed not disregard the article especially during his second term from an economic standpoint.

dear Soludo is very bitter. He was side kicked & knocked off by Peter Obi twice (2010 & 2013) and he has not forgiven GEJ for not playing OBJ‘s style of politics in 2010.

He was praising Obi in 2013 and even joined APGA, thinking that Obi will dance his tune but Obi being who he is, gave him the final knock that sent him to a forced sabatical to lick his wounds.

Soludo made some important economic points in his post but those points were over shadowed by his hatred for Obi, GEJ & Iweala. He tried to delete history by talking about Nigeria‘s debt forgivness under OBJ without given Iweala any credit, but instead positioned himself as the person that contributed to it morethan others.

Soludo has really finally nailed his own coffin like Ngige has done in Anambra state main political front.

I love Soludo so much, worked in his campaign team in 2010. I know what went wrong, but he should have out grown those stuffs by now... It is just a pity

Obi with little or no economic knowledge governed Anambra state one of the states with little fg alocation without collecting any form of external or internal loan. This same Soludo came bagging Obi to make him APGA guber candidate in 2013 Obi refused & insisted on Obiano... Nne Soludo messed up big time here.

Obi had the capacity to refuse him the ticket then, he did and you didn't cry foul. Soludo has the influence to ridicule Peter obi, he did and you are crying foul. what else if not hypocrisy? Soludo is on the money here. Stop deceiving people with meager resources mantra, Peter obi collects more allocation than Enugu but go see the difference. The issue of loan is what the Prof said obi lacked knowledge about. According to him he confused the microeconomics of trading with macro economics of governance. I saw where you said Ngige and now Soludo are irrelevant in Anambra politics. let me leave you to your foolery.

I didnt cry foul because for Soludo to go hands and knee begging Obi was annoying to me.

Soludo does not have any influence to ridicule Obi. As I said in my comment: If Soludo has made his points without calling names it would have made much sense. But for him to mention names shows that he is still full of animosity because of what happened in 2010 and replayed again in 2013.

Enugu the capital of Enugu is a project that was carried out by the whole south eastern (region) states. If Anambra is the way it is now about 8years ago, I believe that Anambra state would have been better than enugu state as whole. However, apart from Enugu town, no other town or place is as good as villages on Anambra state.

Ngige is leaving in the backyard of Anambra state, believe it or leave it. Soludo is at this point none existing at all in Anambra state main stream politics...

What is the difference between what Enugu gets and what Anambra gets

Soludo does not have any influence and here you are crying over his viral article which is the most read this year. No influence yet the president, APC and Peter obi are issuing rejoinders here and there. The Peter obi world you live in will not allow you see the extent of damage the article did to Obi's image. it was a trending topic on twitter.

2. Soludo has never begged obi for anything. It was Victor umeh he was working with before obi rushed and reconciled with the Victor umeh faction (it was on TV)

3 Ngige defeated obi and late akunyili together with a yoruba party, He's about to do it again. If you are looking for someone that has lost his political relevance in Anambra its Peter Obi as you can see in the election going on. Peter obi has no camp. A former commissioner under Peter obi is now with Ngige

4. stop fooling yourself, we are comparing Chime with obi not Enugu. Where are Peter Obi's signature projects in 8 years with a higher allocation than Chime. Have you visited nsukka?

You can cry from now till tomorrow, the profs point is still valid.

Actually Chime did very well in Enugu. Not that Obi did nothing But priority wise, if am to score them I will give Chime an A where Obi gets a C. Obi's performance was over bloated by his paid propagandists which unfortunately included some Catholic and Anglican priests.

You will not understand this now, but by the time Obiano had worked for 4 years, you acknowledge that Obi did little which was exaggerated. As a check, do you know that what Obiano received in the past one year is less than the average cash Obi got yearly in his 6-8 years spell. Can you spot the difference?

Obi got by far more money than Chime during the period under review owing to his closeness to the president which is good. And at a period when there was increased sharing of ECA and the rests
Chime's contractors are at work in the villages of Enugu, divided into Zones. Go to Udi, Oji -River, Nssuka they're close by the Catapillars are there working

Soludo's point against Peter Obi remains unassailable, even if part of his motive is self-serving.
The only significant "signature project" achieved by Obi (if you want to call it that) is the handing back of schools to the missionary.
That alone relaunched Anambra as an education minded state, and the dividends will come in later.
But to Soludo's point, Anambra needs massive investment in infrastructure which could have launched the state to rapid development, even if we take on a little more debt.
Anyone comparing Soludo's genius to Peter Obis trader economics must be mentally ill.

Most times you guys reason as if the devil made away with your senses at tender age.

Obi met a failed Anambra with everything in ruins:

Obi came to develop Anambra and was completely distracted for four good years.

Obi met a broke Anambra and leave her liquid.

If Chime or whatever had met the type of state and fought the calibre of war Obi fought in Anambra State and still come out smoking hot Somalia would have been better than Enugwu presently:

You guys are poor students of history to be sincere
