Buhari's only ideas on the economy is on the extractive industry

Save money from corruption and re-invest in mining?

In an age where countries are encouraging local manufacturing in order to employ more people and diversify the economy?

And the he goes on to refer to PHCN as NEPA. The man is still stuck in the 80s!
Re: Buhari Danced In Ibadan! (video) by ttmacoy: 11:37am On Jan 31, 2015
As I said I hope I am proven wrong, but for a country of 170 million people to only be able to present Buhari and Jonathan is a shame as it shows a cabal still controls Nigeria.

There is no doubting buhari reputation, but let's be honest when he was a soldier it was easier to be a disciplinarian as he was a military head of state pretty much a dictator. It's a different ball game as a civilian president.

Also the man looks so old and frail and I still believe he does not have what it takes to drag Nigeria into the glory it deserves. This is not because he doesn't have good intentions, but I haven't seen anything he has said that impresses me and why are we still fielding a 70 odd president.

It's not just his age, I just don't see the drive and vitality required to have a country like Nigeria. Look at John McCain who ran against Obama. He is 78 but you can feel the energy and drive just watching him speak. He is up to date with the world now and will not make comments like I will stabilise oil prices. Even obasanjo looks stronger than Buhari.

As I said I hope and pray I an wrong, but I have not been impressed with either candidate and I maintain my stand that Nigeria a country of over 170 million can provide more credible leaders if only the rule of law was allowed to drive the course of the election.

barcanista:
Officer Gen Muhammadu Buhari is neither lesser nor greater evil. He represents anything and everything worthy of emulation. For you to think that the amiable Major General will be controlled by "Tinubu and co" shows your level of reasoning. A General of admirable reputation and impeccable integrity like Muhammadu Buhari can neither be moved nor shaken by external forces. He is firm, resolute and people-driven. He is My General and Your General. He is My Incoming President and Your Incoming President. He is General Muhammadu Buhari!

I agree that it will be positive for APC to win even if just for some change, but I do not see either party or candidate as the Messiah that will make Nigeria relevant on the global stage.

Anyway I hope I am wrong and Buhari is the Margaret Thatcher of Nigeria.

dammytosh:

You know why Nigeria is better off with APC's team, they will be under scrutiny and under pressure to perform.

GEJ and his team will continue the disaaster they did not finish in first tenure and keep blaming America, Russia, Chad, South Africa and APC as their problem

I have no idea why you brought my family into this, but it just shows how well you were brought up. If none of your family has been fortunate enough to achieve what Buhari has achieved - whatever they are, then I am sorry for you. You can also keep on dancing, eating the amala and drinking the miniras they serve you at the rallies .... have fun while it lasts.

No need to go personal though. Sometimes, we end up committing errors in a bid to prove that we know more than others, which in itself, could be our fall. By the way the bolded is a typo, I know wink

Why can't you try to reason instead of taking everything at its face value. The man mentioned NEPA because it is a name everyone is used to. One of the major attributes of a great leader is the ability to reach the simplest of minds, why call it PHCN when the crowd understands NEPA. Furthermore, the general only stated one of his plans, he did not say he'll use the whole economic budget to invest in mining, just the savings recovered from corrupt officials. I think this is very commendable because we all know the Nigerian mining industry is in a state of extinction. Also, this election is not only about the general, no my friend it is about the possibility of change. We are faced with two options, continue with the same PDP governance which has led to the systematic collapse of the Nigerian economy and the outright disregard for the safety of the citizens or give change a chance and vote for the opposition. I am a big supporter of change, I refused to be deceived by useless rhetoric, religious/tribal sentiments and propaganda. I am not voting for Buhari alone, I am voting for his advisers, I'm voting for change, I'm voting for a rebellion; for a new opposition led government that will be eager to prove its worth to the people during its first term. Lastly, what do we call someone that does the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome? Insane! We keep voting for PDP expecting progress yet we are constantly disappointed, in 2011 we fell for the 'I had no shoes' trick, this is 2015, are we still so gullible?

Further reasons to decipher how badly the president has done.

People are tired of hearing "no money", while the president has about what, 8-10 jets in his fleet, feeds on how much/day, excesses of government officials, missing monies, and (e.t.c). BH carving out a part of the country for themselves (ISIS style), while murdering, raping, and kidnapping thousands. They discovered oil in Niger. God forbid, if oil is discovered in that part of the country with BH in power . . .

If it were all about face value, educational qualifications, or command of the English language, I bet we all have at least 1 person in each of our households that is at the least 10 times more presentable than the General, but it's way more than that!

Would I have preferred a prudent, tested, 45 year old genius, smart, Ph.D., queen's-English-speaking, honest, God-fearing, good looking, incorruptible man or woman? Yes.

Do we have one among all the presidential candidates? Probably No.

Does the president, or the General fit the above description? No.

Has corruption and it's disciples been our biggest problem/hindrance? Yes.

Between the General and the President, who would I prefer in tackling this menace (corruption)? The General

Is the General a good man? No.

Are we choosing between two evils? Yes.

The APC will never believe that the General is not a good man. According to them, his only asset is incorruptible integrity but reverse is the case. If we can't vote Buhari because of integrity, then he should be nowhere close Aso rock.

You need to hear him say that the money gotten from stopping corruption would be channeled into "farming" not even agriculture.

We have emerging professionals for crying out loud.
