Nice story you have here but the diction is poor,a mixture of present and past tense.
You should be writing 'was' not 'is'.

Continued...

When school closed, Mike and Vareena sat outside on the bench waiting for Vareena's father. The tarred road that led out of school stood at three feet beside them.
Waiting on the concrete seat, her father drove in his Rav4 car and alighted, smile plastered on his face.

'helo my an....', he cut himself short and his eyes popped 'What happened to you?' he asked. His daughter was dragging her left leg. The smiles on his face turned to a frown.

'she fell down' Mike responded on her behalf. Carrying her bag, he helped her walked towards the car.

'Dad, I'm fine. Miss joy already treated the little bruise,' she smiled, before someone would suggest visiting the hospital for a mere bruise. She will be fine.

'are you sure' Mr Evan asked, moving closer to examine as if that would heal her completely.

'Yes...,' She quipped

'Miss Joy!' She shouted to her darling teacher who was gorgeously walking towards them already.

Mr Evan, turning swiftly, he beheld the beatiful Lady; Astonished, by the human goddess walking towards him. She dressed in black suits, and red short skirt, and inner white shirt. Her cropped hair extended to her face and almost to her left thin browed eye. An oval face that held not too pointed nose, and spotless light skin that looks tender and soft, and lips decorated in pink colour; all made him blurted inaudibly, 'she is beautiful'.

He regain his consciousness and bent a little and to greet her.

'thanks madam, she told me you treated her leg'

Marvelous are the ability of a lady, they could detect if someone is attracted to them even faster than a thermometer detects heat. She already knew he was carried away and the greeting even couldn't hide it.

'It's nothing.... just helping my student as expected.... she will be fine'

'thanks all the same, I'm grateful'

'you are welcome'

'Alright, we will see you tommorrow' Evan said smiling.

'yes, Sure'

'Bye'

' okay ' she replied shortly.

'bye aunty' Vareena waved at her as she bent to take her sit beside the driver's seat.

'take care my dear' she waved back.

Mike also entered and sits at the rear seat. He place vareena's bag and his bag beside him.

Miss Joy watched as they drive out of the school before walking back to the school. She would be headed home soon, she should pack her things.

She was welcome to her table by
Selena Gomes song: heart want what it wants crooning from her phone. She looked at the caller ID and picked
,
' ore ore '

' see there is fire on your mountain ' was the reply she got, 'Where are you'

'I'm at school,we just closed. what happen?'

'I will get to your house in 30 minutes' and the line went dead from the caller's end.

'What happen to Joke', she thought staring at the screen of her phone. Her friend is one of the first to hear the latest gossip in town. But her voice sounds on the phone like there was fire on a house.

It better be a meaningful thing. . .

----------Chapter 4------------------

Joke arrived to her friends place, mentally speaking her mind to the event that brought her here to herself. It's time her friend find something useful, someone better for herself. She knocked on her friend's door and Joy lifted her tired body from the couch, opened the door.

Joke walked past her into the kitchen, and serving herself a cup of cold water. She walked back into the sitting room and took her sit on the settee. Joy sat
directly opposite her, staring at her with curiosity. The tv and home theatre are arranged on the shelf to the right of Joy's seat. She was
expecting explanation about what she said earlier on the phone. 'Abi she came to her house just to drink water', she mused.

'I ran into your boyfriend at a restaurant today'

'so?' Joy replied nonchalantly. She knows her friend, it might be some silly things she wants to talk about. She remembered the time she called her about some designer dress she found at a random shop. So what is the big deal if she run into her boyfriend. He isn't some sort of celebrity.

'I saw him with another lady, you should see the way they are feeding each other enh? I feel like strangling him to death' she said, demonstrating with her hands the word strangle.

'it's a lie' she said calmly.

Joy knew something was fishy about her boyfriend because he has been acting too cold some weeks ago. The Laitan that she knows always call once everyday atleast, but now hardly calls in a week. They were both fed up anyway, her eye on what she fancied now --- though the new is once married and older, he is better than Laitan with one thousand and one characteristics.

'I know you will need proofs so I have them' Joke said handing her phone to her friend. She has been her friend through out her university years and theory alone will not convince her and make her believe. Her friend was the 'proof or I don't believe' it type.

She slid her hands on the screen of the device which continue to display different pictures of her boyfriend and a lady. One where her boyfriend was laughing like a loon and the other person like a female hyena. At least that was how they look to her. She slid the next picture and her eye widened in fury: they were kissing. No hesitation. No more hiding. This is the end of it, a full stop to their relatiobship sentence.

Laitan, uncaring, selfish, heartless, and now a cheater; he should have it coming. She had waited enough; She had endured enough. And no more can she take. And no more would she endure. Now that he had a new rank to his mischievious character, they are done. Maybe it wasn't new after. Maybe he has been masking it masterfully. How could she not have known? The last time he bought her a gift was difficult to recollect. This same man was the one feeding a girl with ice cream. Heavenly gracious: a gift pack and roses adored their table.

'Imagine, forming Mr. Romantic' Joke added, peeping at the screen.

What does he take her for?

Their relationship will hit a rock, break it's head, explode in fire, burn into ashes and finally it will be washed away by river.

She rose from her seat. 'you are staying over Joke' Joy asked.

'ko to so' (i will stay even if you did not you say it).

'I'm in the kitchen I want to cook'
Joy walkway and Joke picked the remotes on the table. Just before she walked out she said 'Mr. Evan appreciated what I did today'

'what? You don't mean it' She turned to face the kitchen entrance tilting her head in the process. 'come and gist me'

'you wanna hear? join me in the kitchen' hurriedly, she dumped the remote on the table and went after her.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

'did you mind taking you out for a dinner?'

'I won't...' she was saying

'please don't reject it' he cuts in.

The following day after Joke revealed her boyfriend escapade to her was a Friday, She was in the school when Vareena ran into the class excitedly.

'good morning ma'

'hey young lady good morning' she had replied.

'My dad wants to see you' Vareena had said beaming with smile.

Now here they are, talking. It seemed her dream is coming true and he has found someone he was fond of; someone to break his vow for. His daughter is matured now. He had tried enough for nine years, time to have a feel of relationship again. Or marriage. Marriage? That would be too fast.

'Are you inviting me on a date Mr Evan?'

'If you say so ... Tonight 7 p.m'

'k then' she replied toying with a strand of her hair.

Cheryl Evan brought her kids to school this morning. Driving in her Sienna, she found a suitable park and allowed her kids hopped out, especially Ben who is interested in jumping from the car to the mud earth. The kids came down waved at their mother and walked to their classroom.

The distance where she parked was few meters from where Evan was proposing a date.

Cheryl knew one day that her case will turn, that her amnesia will be forgotten; the dream --- the girl will make sense to her. Kayout had thought visiting the media will make him lost her, and he never suggest it. Evan was the only connection to her first daughter. In her heart, she has always wish the 'smiling girl' well, praying to God to build her into a strong and elegant woman. The type that will command authority and she will be proud if she eventually find her; if she eventually knows who she was. If her past did come back. The girl has a cute smile.

Few yards away, under the tree stood a man and the resolution to the mystery she has been inquiring to resolve for nine years.

She wants to see the principal, she unbuckled her seat's belt.

**********-*

She gave him her contact which he gladly saved on his phone. She watched he walked to his car; her dream was becoming a home reality, left with getting rid of Laitan.

Meanwhile, Cheryl stopped abruptly. She was late for a meeting. The principal can wait till tomnorow when she would bring the kids. Igniting the car back, she breathed out, used the roundabout which has the sculptor of a male student reading a book to make a U-turn. She drove towards the exit and Mr Evans's car followed closely behind hers. Both vehicle stopped at entrance before joining the main road; Cheryl indicated she was going to the right while Evan pointed left. Each person drove to their respective direction not knowing the occupant of the second car. Only if destiny had said they would meet on this day but it didn't and Cheryl has more days of torment, with her dream, with the girl, with her confusion.
------------------------------------------

During break that day Vareena was busy solving some mathematical problem with Mike. They were both preparing for the forthcoming inter-school Quiz competition. The principal told them this morning and they had started preparing with a WAEC past question. Mike raised his head and he look out through the window. Patrick was passing and running his eyes through the classroom, roles bag carrying chairs, empty seats — probably looking for somebody.

'Patrick' Micheal called and waved him to come in.

Pat walked in. 'good afternoon seniors'

'good afternoon' Vareena who was not looking all this while and Mike replied in unison.

'How are you?' Mike asked.

'I'm good' he replied

'since you had been chosen for the quiz competition, I knew you will not be having time so I have decided that I will be the one checking on you guys, that way I will be learning too.' he said resting his butt on the wall.

'that's a nice idea' Mike said. He was looking down to what Vareena was studying and looked up to give Pat a reply.
Vareena who had answered some question on her note was checking them up if her answer tally with the correct answers at the back of the book.

After a while Pat left for his class. Mike had sensed Vareena was not willing to inquire about the boy anymore. It's time to make her change her mind if she wasn't interested in doing..

'Var! Don't you want to know about the boy again?' he asked

'I already knew all I want to about him' she said closing the book in front of her and sit up to see his facial expression.

'what are those things you know'
he asked resting his chin on his clasped palms supported by the desk like a serious teacher listening to a brilliant student.

'his father isn't Nigerian,he came from Togo. He came here last year'
she replied. 'Nothing more. I had thought there might be a connection if he says he was a Nigerian citizen but since he wasn't, I will keep him as friend'

She had a unique feeling anytime he saw Patrick. It was so glaring to her that something is between him and Pat, a connection? But she was fighting her conscience to believe it. She kept assuring herself the feeling was vague --- That Patrick gave her the feeling she had been missing for so long whenever she was around him --- a male sibling.

'you forgot he told us his mother's name is Cheryl Evan?

Vareena blinked. She remembered during one break, they had talked and he mentioned her mother's name. That, too can't be a coincidence.

'and of course the woman is a Nigerian', he released his hands down. He used his fingers to draw imaginary patterns on the desk.
'We needs to find out more about him'

'and how do we go about it, should we ask him?' she said. Mike will surely come up with something. She can boast of that.

'Well, tomorrow we are going to ask him more question. His mum hobbies, where his parent met and all that. We are going to do that technically so he won't suspect anything'

Vareena nodded her understanding to everything Mike said. This was not the first time he will be coming up with ideas, sometimes weird ones; one of the reason she was more closer to him. He is not like most of her classmate who have bad motives. When they talked with her, their eyes zoomed on her chest as if it held a treasure that their eyes could not let go. That's lustful. Some had never talked to her before. But they had sure converse in their mind with her chest.

And Bukoye, that boy was an antagonist to her character. They hated each-other with passion.

'and try to come up with more question. Question that can help our findings.' Mike said.

'yes, and I will also try Facebook. Will search his name' vareena said after keeping quiet for some seconds.

Mike looked at her face,he was also agreeing to the idea. He turned his side to her and the desk. He was now facing the class aisle. His hands were resting on the desk and the chair's rail.

They both kept quiet thinking what comes to each person's brain. Vareena eyes was on Mike, like she was seeing his handsome face for the first time. His thin lips, the acne on his cheek, his dark hair that was opposite in colour to his skin.

He could felt her gaze on him. He expected her eyes off him but 1, 2, 3..... 20 seconds it was still on him.

'Miiike' she called softly stressing the syllable.

He turned to look at her face,
'what?'

'Water', She replied smiling.

'Water is there,' he pointed, 'not on my face' he fired back smiling.

Some had never talked to her before.
Bukoye, that boy is a protagonist to her
character.

I think it should be antagonist

After spending much than usual hours behind the mirror painting her face, she sat on a stool still in front of the mirror backing her bed. There was no one to compliment her look and she decided applying the make up would be better. Her friend who could help, said clubbing was her schedule. Not make up. Not baby sitting a love-sick.

She stopped and examined her face in the mirror. It needed some powdering and she applied it.
After the make up was done was when her problem continues; she did not know the best dress to choose. Standing on behibd the wardrobe, she search through the hung clothes for the best dress; and repeated, and repeated. At last she choose a pink gown that revealed her curves. It has a design of gold on it which glitter catching the slight rays of light . This should have the effect she desires. She want eyes to be on her.

She was contented when Mr Evan came that night. He had called her he was at the door,he didn't knock. And when she steped out
, he had said 'waoh! you look great.' Even if he didn't say it the look on his face said it all.

'where are are we going' she
asked when they have stepped into the car. He is behind the wheels.

'don't you like surprises' he asked back.

'well, I like surprise at certain instances'

'like'

'that's question of another date'

The lady is making his job easier than he thought. He is going to invite her for lunch tomorrow. First thing first, they would enjoy today's date. And maybe he would have his first real kiss in nine years.
