How employable are you? What practical skills can you boast of? Having a degree is not a skill.

How Many 2.2 Graduates Hv Gained "Paid" Employment?

I mean how many of them are living satisfactorily in luxury (am not talking of entrepreneurship or freelance business initiatives) just like others who are working in managerial and administrative levels in known companies (ie working in shell, total etc top positions in banks, PZ, PwC, etc) including multinationals in nigeria today?

Share your own testimonies to encourage some frustrated class please!
my brother 2.2 is not a frustrated class. ..just saying. ..All natural 2nd class. ..just dt this one is higher. ..plus no be all 2.2 be 2.2....how do you differ 3.4 and 3.5 Does it make sense? ? Aside from some select companies 2.2 graduates are open to jobs as much as d 2.1. ..Once you have a 2nd class just try and master and improve yourself bro

Well my boss is a 2.2 graduate from Unilag, she currently heads the finance department of an oil and gas company filled with first class and 2.1 graduates. To make things more interesting, she didn't even study anything related to finance in school, she studied Estate management but she didn't let that deter her. she has worked in a couple of multinational companies at the top level with her so called "2.2" certificate and she is still in her thirties. smiley

So OP stop looking down on yourself because you didn't make a 2.1 or first class, there are thousand more 2.2 graduates excelling in their field. You just strive to be the best and give your 101% whenever you are given the chance.

She is heading because of her experience. Not a matter of grade.

I have benefited immensely from that section especially from your niche, importation. God bless you and the likes of YMod, Thespecialone, Tutucious(who stood by me when I first made a bold step) and other big names. You guys should keep it up! You have touched many lives without knowing, especially some of who are not too fond of posting comments.

The argument never ends.

When I graduated, I knew that was not the end of the world. I trusted more in who I knew myself to be and the grace of God. Could I have done better? Maybe, after all I had a scholarship from Exxon while in school so I knew I wasn't a dullard. I spent most of my time in school learning things different from my field of study and serving God.

It's 7 years since I graduated and it's been an epic journey. I applied for my masters immediately after graduation and was rejected left right and center. 6 US universities, 3 in the UK, 2 in Canada. I didn't give up. I kept my faith, kept working hard, tried my hands on a couple of things.

I have changed jobs three times since my first job. Worked for three multinationals, currently in the third and a senior manager (it's No 1 Employer of Choice and top 3 FMCG). I have been to so many countries, met with global leaders, and other influential people. I will tell you one thing- study hard, learn as much as you can, don't limit yourself to your field of study, but NEVER ignore the grace that comes from above. My last employer claim they took a gamble with me. Today, I know I'm an asset.

God never fails and to those that believe, keep believing. I have two of my course mates working in junior roles and they know that it's not by power or might. Life is spiritual...

Like the bible says, study to show thyself approved...in doing that, function in grace knowing that it is not of him that willeth but of God that showeth mercy.

PS: I knew no man. Called no one. Applied to every single job with faith in my heart, the word in my mouth and seed on the altar of God. Today I'm a living testimony. Have faith!

My dear, You cant even get a 2.2 in my department if you are an average student and its a state school. So, I dont agree with your point.

my dear that wount count in the labour market. What counts is your class of degree regardless of ur school. But let us not digress from the topic, having a 2.2 does not disqualify you from having a good job. Your performance in any aptitude test should be able to give your prospective employer an insight on your IQ/abilities. No b by grade na by Wetin u fit deliver...

This quote up there is what most graduates haven't figured out yet. Yes class of degree will only gives you the opportunity to be interviewed, problem solving skills is what gets you the job.

I made a 2.2 in geomining. I'm not doing so well yet but thanks be to GOD. I'm the youngest lecturer in a polytechnic somewhere and also an MSC student. A 1st class or 2.1 is awesome but it's never a prerequisite to success cos hardwork, efficiency, productivity and also being at the right place, with the right people and at the right time can transform a 3rd class graduate into a billionaire. *just my thoughts.

To be candid:

Life is bigger than 2.2 or 2.1, it is about knowledge, value and impact

Nigeria's educational system is trash, that is why you see corpers who can not read

We Nigerian graduates are our own greatest enemies, we pay more attention to job applications than personal development

Reading culture is long dead in Nigeria; if it ever existed. When was the last time you read a book?

In conclusion my testimony:

I graduated from OAU '12 with a degree in biochemistry (2.2 and an extra year). Though I knew I was never going to practice biochemistry.
I was already programming before I graduated. I got a job as a software developer a month to my POP. They are not multinational but the pay is very good and the learning experience is immense. I work with computer science graduates who finished with first class and 2'1, yet they struggle with the job. Pay more attention to skills and personal development and you will soar beyond your imaginations.

NAMASTE

Most companies look out for skills as well as ur result. So if u have a 2.2, I guess u should find a skill or skills that can boost ur chances even with a 2.2.

My sister stop deceiving yourself. Don't you know that it is even easy to write exams and pass with good grades in conventional universities. Most of the lecturers have been taking a particular course for 10-20 years so everybody know how his questions look like.

I graduated with a 2:2 Electronic Engineering, God answered my prayers and a week after NYSC i got a job in N.T.A, i prayed to God to improve me and i got another better job with Sahara Group, all these in two years. So it is possible to be employed gainfully with 2:2
Re: Testimonies Of Second-Class Lower Graduates Who Have Good Jobs by myke92(m): 8:17am On Feb 13, 2015
its important one should realize that not all 2.2 grads are nitwits or lazy peepz..multinationals have made 2.1 a minimum grade for job application because of the immense competition amongst applicants...BTW, if care isnt taken, with the way things are going, pretty soon, first class will be the very minimum grade for job application...the testimonies being shared here isnt to encourage you graduate with a 2.2.. make strong efforts to finish well, and if it turns out otherwise, dont despair..,develop other viable areas and strong points in your life..the God factor is there to help you if you can help yourself...finally, its never over until you are a winner!!
