Again Jonathan drives his transformation agenda further. Education is the bedrock of success. This is an exciting news and coupled with the ongoing revival of education in the core North via Almajiri Schools, there will be a boom in educated folks in the society in the nearest future.

In the UK, there are 109 universities excluding public funded colleges. In the USA there's a total of 4,599 eligible degree-granting institutions: 2,870 4-year institutions and 1,729 2-year institutions.

Fill up the country with schools and watch the acceleration of developments in the society. And with time due to the number of private universities, there would be a healthy competition and tuition prices will fall down.

Gone are the days when students sit at home because JAMB jam them grin grin.

Way to go Jonathan, Build us schools and not prisons.

God bless you

These is a good initiative. We need more licences for private universities and industries in Nigeria. All the Ivy league universities in the US are privately run and owned.

Is the solution to educational development to keep on establishing new universities or to develop and expand the ones currently on ground? Wouldn't that be cheaper for the FG?

I hope they are reasonable schools that would increase the value of education and not just mushroom schools. No point in opening new schools unnecessarily.

Chai see curruption, government funding private university. I can assure u that 70% of that fund is going to Jonathan campaing.

9 New Universities = 9 centres for employments, Teaching and Non- teaching staff, it takes a large staff strength to run a university.
The economic impact that these will have in the host communities as students will bring growth and development to their host communities and add value to those communities.
It is a win win for the country as it will also help to raise the standard of living in Nigeria via more educated citizenry.
But i would have loved to see more equitable distribution of the private universities in Nigeria, The North Needs more of the Universities than the south and there are more uneducated youth in the North with respect to the south.

There are more Crude oil well owning Billionaires and Millionaires in the North than in the South, Why are these oil billionaires in the North not investing in building Universities in the North?

This is how I know a successful man, he only sees opportunities.

I read through the thread, it saddens to see people complain.
Some still didn't understand that the school is privately owned.
Lots of opportunities just opened up.

and please tell me how many have the money that they can go.

Do you know that many american take a löan that they can pay the school fees also Obama make this and it takes him many many years that he could pay it back and it was at the time when he gets president that he has finished it.

I love my country where the university are very cheap and every child can go with the help from the goverment when the parents have no moeny.
Re: FEC Approves 9 New Private Universities, 4 In Ogun State. by notobs: 9:03pm On Feb 25, 2015
For those Who are concerned about the high Fees that private university charge: Here is a food for thought, Private Universities worldwide are more expensive than public universities and on the average better managed and has better facilities than public universities.

The High fees charged by private universities will make both Parents/guardian and Students ponder their career paths/ courses more seriously! No parent or student is going to want to spend say 500K tuition to study philosophy, history, english language etc without pondering what career such discipline will led to.

No Parent or student is going to pay high tuition to get to a private university to Join secret cult, become a political thug, or not study hard to make good grades etc.

Building private universities that have facilities that match those available abroad will help save our country forex exchange. 90% of students in private universities like covenant etc would have been heading to universities abroad thereby taking all that tution money abroad to create jobs for lectures in foreign countries while our prof. at home are unemployed.

My vote is for more Private Universities with NUC regulation for standardization and My Vote is for GEJ till 2019,I Like what he is doing in transport,Education, Agriculture, industries, and more recently how he is funding the Military which is turning the tide against Boko Haram etc

God bless Nigeria
God bless GEJ
