I suggested the fund be divided into two, half goes to his family. If he was married who would have given to his wife and probably kids, but since this said fund was donated for a cause and the cause wasn't achieved as he didn't survive, I suggest part of the fund goes to the cause for another verified nl in need of help, and the balance goes to DJ family as a support, not necessarily establishment as it might even lead to family issues if the mum is concentrated on.

As a Muslim building mosque is an automatic qualification for Aljana. So respect his religion undecided

You should also respect other people's beliefs - the ones who donated the money for his treatment and the upkeep of his family not every one of them is a muslim.

Building a mosque is not obligatory, it is a form of charity IF there are sufficient resources. Having means of livelihood would also be a form of charity because then they can give out to others. Or would you rather they beg because of building a mosque would grant him automatic Al-jannah.

Next time think before you post because you would not your money to be use for a church if you were in the same position as the donors.

The money was donated for a cause, hand over the balance to his family.

I don't think he had wife and children
If he had,all our help would be towards the wife and children
Whatever money we are giving should be handed over to his mother ,not father, certainly not to his brothers.
It should go to the woman he showed us is in his pictures sitting sadly beside his bed and keeping vigil over him

Option 3 looks like a good deal but we have to thread carefully. Is the shop going to be enough to cater for rent when all is said and done.

I also like option 4 about giving to charity but it does not have to be the mosque, it can be anywhere.

Option 3 is the best option if properly managed.

Can someone ban this breadandbutter troll.. He's a nuisance to this thread, only serious minded people should be allowed to comment.

Option 3 is the best, a year rent max n empowerment for the mum, dats all..

We do not owe the family jack, if they want money n luxury dey should go and hustle.

Sorry to bring this up, but I think Tehn should "learn" from late Perx. Handing cash over to family members is as good as throwing it away.

I go with :
Paying the parents 2 years rent or relocation.
Setting up a biz for the mom.
Use the rest of the funds to help one or two nlders in need( verified)

We are not going to be caretakers for DJ's mom for life

Inheritance rule or not. You were in charge of how the money should be used before his death that makes you the executor. He did not leave a will but he expressed his wishes.

But I would rather you use the money as babyosisi has suggested.

I am against option 1 because giving them that amount might lead to competition and conflicts

I agree with that, but the fund should be divided, part for his mum, balance for any awaiting and verified case, since the reason for donation was for the cause of help to anyone in need of health care without available funds.

I don't mean all of it
A large chunk should be for others in similar needs

But we should rent a sustainable place for them not one that they can't keep up with.

The money should be given to the next of kin - in this case the mum. We should not be concerned with what she does with it. Techically the money is DJ's. Tehn were simply custodians. It also does not belong to the donors as donating the funds had made them lose the authority over it. The money could have been donated directly to DJ ( which was what happened initially). Would we attempt to have control over the balance in that scenario? Let the money be given to the owner DJ in this case represented by us estate (his mum)

Option 3 with the balance going to a Nairalander in need.
Re: RIP DJDOLA- We Will Miss You by Laredojohn(m): 9:40pm On Mar 13, 2015
Building a mosque etc, that's his personal wish, but the said fund was donated out of pity to help a fellow bro survive an ailment, soo sad the individual is gone, part should be given to the family as a form of burial assistance (though he is buried) the balance should be channeled to the some course for someone else in need, his family are not not to suggest what we use the fund for, it's our prerogative, and will not be surprised if we have some of his close associates on this trend. Share the fund, give his family some, the balance should be channeled to similar course .

That's one of the criteria attached to option 3
I mean using the entire money to help another person. No matter how much we give Djdola's family, it won't bring him back so let's try and help someone else who needs help.

..........my own humble suggestion.

God bless you all. Good suggestions there but would like to point out that in adopting any one of the suggestions, let us put into consideration the future of the family.

I said this because for example, relocating the family to a better living accommodation is good, but what happens after the 2 years rent lapses and they cannot afford to renew same?

Setting up a business for the family is a step in the right direction but how good will they be managing the business? I would suggest setting up a foundation to help monitor and guide the family in which ever way it can to ensure that the family is well catered for in the best possible way.

We can also look at setting up a standing foundation to take care of all other issue that may arise on NL in the name of DJ Foundation to help us always remember what we all stood for.

NOTE
This is just a mere suggestion and should not be seen as offensive in any please.
