Option 3 is the best but my fear is that the rest of the family may not allow the mother enjoy this empowerment because they may resort to evil means all in the name of getting their own part of the windfall.

If that option 3 can be properly handled, I believe it is the best.

Sorry to bring this up, but I think Tehn should "learn" from late Perx. Handing cash over to family members is as good as throwing it away.

I go with :
Paying the parents 2 years rent or relocation.
Setting up a biz for the mom.
Use the rest of the funds to help one or two nlders in need( verified)

Simple. This is the best option abeg.

Because if you people start donating for land and buildings,I have a need too
Our building in the village is yet to be completed
The fence at my village house needs some repairs, so I'm interested in donations too.

I go with option 3, but with modifications. Empowerment for his mum but no relocation and what not.

Building a mosque etc, that's his personal wish, but the said fund was donated out of pity to help a fellow bro survive an ailment, soo sad the individual is gone, part should be given to the family as a form of burial assistance (though he is buried) the balance should be channeled to the some course for someone else in need, his family are not not to suggest what we use the fund for, it's our prerogative, and will not be surprised if we have some of his close associates on this trend. Share the fund, give his family some, the balance should be channeled to similar course .

His personal wish was to build a mosque? Seriously? Where was that stated biko?

Option 3
Re: RIP DJDOLA- We Will Miss You by esere826: 9:54pm On Mar 13, 2015
@r231

Only those who donated money through your organisation should be the ones to make decisions on the money
and the weight of individual donation should be the weight of their authority in this matter

this might sound harsh, but
the donors provided money for Djola and not to religion, clerics or any relative whether poor or rich
they also trusted that TeHn would use the money sensibly for Djola

so it falls back to the donors to decide,
and for TeHn to step in and exert closure if the donors are not able to decide

I mean using the entire money to help another person. No matter how much we give Djdola's family, it won't bring him back so let's try and help someone else who needs help.
..........my own humble suggestion.
Obino, haba...we can't just ignore a mother that used up all she had to make sure Dj got back on his feet and inject ALL that money helping another?! DJ once pleaded on this same thread that we should at least give his mother something tangible that'll help build her business back up. We MUST honour that request.

@Tehn
The right thing to do is hand the money over to his family IF it was donated in the name of DJdola.

It would be wrong to raise money for one cause and use it for another. He is dead now and the normal inheritance rules do not indicate that what was raised for his benefit be handed to outsiders.

If you worry about what his family will do with the money, you may end up soiling your organization's reputation. We cannot be the evaluator and judge of that.
I also do not think returning to donors is realistic. For future drives, you may want to use a proactive fundraiser approach to have a purse to draw from when need arises OR when you take up a case and put someone's name out there, either have a stated amount you are raising for the individual OR let donors know that some of the money will be used to fund TEHN's other operations.

No matter how "huge" we feel this money is, let us be cautious and not delay in doing the right thing. Let us be cautious again and not rub salt into injury as all that money cannot bring DJDOLA back.

You set out with a good intention, May God help us all to be just and fair. Ameen
am sorry I had to quote you but I donated anonymously solely for Dj's treatment. I had little but I gave hoping it will at least pay part of his hospital bills. Since he is no more, I will like my funds diverted to someone else in need here on nairaland not to his folks.

In that regards I go with option 3 minus the house rent part please. A business can be established for his mum but my funds should please not be used for any house rent. He has other able bodied family members who should be able to care for his parents/elders. Thanks

I suggest just the opening a business for the mum and majority of the fund be used for another persons case which has been verified. The main aim of donating the money was to save a life, if thesame money can be used to save another persons life I think thesame aim would have been achieved but in a different way. Just my humble suggestion.

God bless you all. Good suggestions there but would like to point out that in adopting any one of the suggestions, let us put into consideration the future of the family.

I said this because for example, relocating the family to a better living accommodation is good, but what happens after the 2 years rent lapses and they cannot afford to renew same?

Setting up a business for the family is a step in the right direction but how good will they be managing the business? I would suggest setting up a foundation to help monitor and guide the family in which ever way it can to ensure that the family is well catered for in the best possible way.

We can also look at setting up a standing foundation to take care of all other issue that may arise on NL in the name of DJ Foundation to help us always remember what we all stood for.

NOTE
This is just a mere suggestion and should not be seen as offensive in any please.

Why should we be concerned about all of this?people are not being paid for these services.
There is already Tehns acting in that capacity now you want a foundation set up

Dunno, making reference to what some peeps said, and made it known if dats his wish, he is gone and sad he could not fulfill it, we can't fulfill that as we have other people in need, his family can decide to donate their share of the funds to the mosque, while we use the balance for other people in need of medical assistance .

Thanks for your suggestion and confidence in tehn
This was considered

TeHN decided to bring up this issue to Nairalanders to decide upon so that accusations of inpropriety, diversion and fraud will not surface again.

We are not building any mosques

Making reference to a false claim is just going to drag us back and forth. Building a mosque is not an option here. Let's just focus on making right choices.

I believe you have chosen Option 3. Nice. God bless.

Thank you!
And after that we hands off their private affairs
It is not up to us to monitor how she runs the business and how much money it makes and if it can sustain her
Btw r231 and co,what does the woman do
Is she a trader, does she have a kiosk
A mamaput joint?
We should support her in what she is already doing
It's not everyone that can run a business
If she prefers the money in cash,we give her cash and our job is done

Option 3 minus house rent. Also what about the initial money given to his Mum? Will that form part of the consideration?

The 100k was transferred to DJ as reported on this thread but the mum rejected it at the time as she was more concerned with getting DJ back to his feet.

We were told during our last meeting with them that DJ withdrew some money from it but their should be a sizeable portion of that money left in the account.
The main issue is they are unable to retrieve the money as they didn't bother getting a death certificate and that's needed to take possession of his liquid assets from the back.

We were also reliably informed that the last 150k transferred to him on the day that he unfortunately died was used towards the burial arrangements

You should also respect other people's beliefs who donated the money for his treatment and the upkeep of his family.

Building a mosque is not obligatory, it is a form of charity IF there are sufficient resources. Having means of livelihood would also be a form of charity because then they can give out to others. Or would you rather they beg because of building a mosque would grant him automatic Al-jannah.

Next time think before you post because you would not your money to be use for a church if you were in the same position as the donors.

His parents will be glad to have a mosque in their Son's name than having a shop filled with goods cos all we have here is vanity. I'm only trying to get him to paradise with the mosque suggestion undecided
