OP I'm sure you mingle with the wrong set of people. How did you arrive at 78% illegal immigrants abroad?

I know lots of professionals across various spheres working and running businesses that when you see them yout're proud of being Nigerian. And they visit Nigeria quite often. Do you know the number of flights that leave for Nigeria daily from London and vice versa?

I personally visit Nigeria at least twice yearly cos I have a running business back home and also family there. Besides, all the reasons you gave are basically negative and could stem from the fact that either you're in the wrong circle which you need to change or you're unfortunate in the choice of people you meet.

And please don't say 78% when you don't know. So you met them and they told you they're illegal immigrants
You just hit a Grandslam. The OP is speaking for himself and his ilks not for majority of Nigerians. I grew up in Chitown and have an MBA from Loyola and work as an investment adviser in a big hedge fund firm in Chicago. I have friends across all fields including Physicians, Lawyers , Engineers, Nurses, Accountants and even people working manual jobs. There is dignity in labor as long as it's legal. Most of the guys I know are either US citizens or Green Card holder. I have business investments not only in Nigeria but S/A. I am a constant visitor to the two countries. So, the OP can speak for himself and his other low life friends of his. He's not talking about majority of the guys I know here in Chicagoland.

Agaraw23 want compare his life and experience with others living abroad, one thing that people learn living abroad is how to be disciplined which reflects on most of thier behavior, there word is thier bond, i dont know how many people in nigeria will tell you something and you believe what they are telling you, they believe in there own lies.
agarawu23:
just collected my resident permit card today and will be visiting nigeria august after 2yrs leaving my nation and a topic came my mind and will like to share with my fellow NL who have ppl overseas.

though i may not include some of the reasons but I am 100% sure of my own but you can include yours if you have.

jobless without a stable job:- yes, how can someone who is not eating 3 square meals remember ppl at home? this month he/she works and next month no job again and house rent ,water ,light etc are there to balance up.

Fraudster:- forget this kind of ppl and loose hope in them because they will never come home due to their crimes been committed within the country and he can't even near the airport if he is a wanted criminal. Abroad no be 9ja o ones they have your biometrics ,even if you bleach from black to green dey will get u.

Prodigal lifestyle ppl:- before you make up your mind living in abroad ,u must open your number 6 (brain) because life is too sweet abroad and this group of ppl spend there savings clubbing, partying, smoking, drinking and prostituting just frgt this kind of ppl dey can never remember home even if you tell them there parents are abt to die.

Illegal migrants:- 78% of Nigerians living abroad are living illegal ,majority came with 3weeks, 2month, 1month visas but will not have the chance to renew there visas until they finally meet up with the country requirements and mind you if you don't make the steps early enough, just forget visiting police station if you dont want to be deported. so this are the kind of ppl that spend more than 10years without visiting home.

The marriage scammers:- these group of ppl will never visit home because they have forcefully marry a citizen of the country dey reside just to get residence permit. oyinbo wife no be like nja o if you mention say u wan go your country ehh be ready to spend some weeks in jail cheesy

that's all I can write for now due to my experience and what I am seeing with my two eyes.

may God crown our hustle (Amen)

well like I always say to people, Abroad is for the young hustlers, don't come abroad when you are above 29 years of age, thats wrong timing.Abroad is an Avenue to get initial capital for one to set up in life,I was lucky enough to travel just at 23 years of age not many people are that lucky some came when they where 35, papers will remove 10 years from their life except the pros. add 12 years to your age at arrival, grand pa don come be that.

My parents came in their 40s with us kids and were able to become successful in less than ten years...they also came from an impoverished background in Edo State...

I think some are taking this thread in the wrong direction. I mean you start insulting the OP based on his own perceptions from his own personal experience. I'll give my perception, I live in Canada and was born here. There are about 3 circles of people who live here.. the students who studied and then worked hard to get that PR card, married and raise families here (in various stages of this process), the ones who came simply to have a better life and work very hard, sometimes doing menial jobs hoping to survive and then the straight up hustlers, who do any and all things to make loads of cash. However, the majority of these groups, go home and all send money. I know people here who rent 1 room apartment but built their houses back home.

Those who refused to go home, honestly like the environment here, more of a preference than a forced decision. Again, my opinion only

Simple formula.. Do not attempt to live abroad illegally if you have the same skills that could not get you a good living in Nigeria.

If you work as a "Banker" that is not a skill. It is not useful abroad. If you work as a facilities manager or a nurse or a dentist or an equipment operator. You will live well. There are some skills you acquire in Nigeria that makes sense abroad. That is why you will find graduates working at train stations and supermarket security and street cleaners. They do not have the skills to get jobs that pay.. Even when living illegally

hmmmm well said brother just as if I am the one you are referring to . my uncle refused to come home after 14years in Germany. nobody knows the reason till date.
Your uncle may not be coming home soon, because there are a lot of bills to pay. Money is not lying on the streets or growing on trees to pick. Coming to Nigeria is not easy at all. Flight tickets are very expensive. The Money I pay for just a flight ticket to Nigeria, would get me a 2 week full holiday package (accomodation + break fast) in Kenya or Southafrica.

You have your resident permit now doesn't mean you should come to forum and put figures you never verified.

Recently, I spoke with some other Africans here, I discovered that they are more desperate than Nigerians. Most of them came here through back door.

NB:Let's acknowledge the difference between speaking up with intention and speaking up for attention

Oga, He simply said some of the reasons many fails to come back home after many years abroad is dash, dash dash. He is not saying that all Nigerians doesn't come back home or that all Nigerians does menial job. NO!
You are excluded in any of the category mentioned because you visit home regularly. And the OP is not far from the truth about what keeps many Nigerians away from home. Only that the quoted percentage is debatable since there is no source to it.

I think mostly because of the employment and lack of it, unfriendly attitude towards returnee emigrants, hostility among nigerians, lack of resources, etc.

All Nigerians living abroad come online to report how white people treat them? If you want to tell lies just make it a bit believable...this is just nonsense.
