about 206

The rear axle is a weak point of those cars...

The back tyres of the car need to be straight |-------| , they can't be like this /-----\ and if they are , it's mean you need to chenge whole rear axle ... cos for fixing it it's to late.

Cool; this was quite insightful. If i'm to get a 206, what other things should I look out for?

Yes, it is similar. Just not as thick- maybe 1/3 the thickness of the one in the video.

Good morning.

The best of the HDI engines in 407 are the 2.2 L & 2.7 V6, in terms of fuel economy and power.

Since you want auto transmission, you may have to forgo 2.2 L HDI since it comes only with 6-speed manual transmission. The city driving consumption is about 34 mpg (8 L/100km). While highway consumption is about 55 mpg (5 L/100km).

The 2.7 V6 HDI comes only with 6-speed auto transmission, which makes it very fuel economical. The city driving fuel consumption is about 24 mpg (12 L/100km), while highway consumption is about 44 mpg (7 L/100km).

I heard about 3.0 HDI, but yet to see one or find it in Peugeot database.

You will likely source for engine sensors or components online or outside the country. We have more petrol Peugeots than HDIs in Nigeria.

So you mean I can't get any engine component or sensors in Nigeria?

I know it shares the same transmission with the petrol engine 407

Prestige is a badge given to some 406 produced by PAN. It's also a specification of a particular 406 produced by PAN, just like we have SR, ST, LX, GLX, SV, V6, etc.

It's not only 406 with factory prestige badge that has EW10 engine.

This thread is for Lion owners, aspiring owners, Lion admirers and friends of Lions (former Peugeot owners).

If you are having any issue(s) with your Lion, you can seek for help here on how to sort it out. Someone might have a soluton to the nightmare the Lion is giving you.

We can as well post our experiences with our various Lions; both unhappy and happy ones.

Sometime early this year, very close to my office, I saw a 505 V6 packed in an "under Mango Tree Mechanic workshop". I went there and asked for the owner, for i wanted to see and know another fellow that own such a rare car like mine (505 V6) in Abuja. I was told the owner dropped the car over a week with them and the car was yet to be fixed. I asked what was wrong with the car, the mechanic became uncomfortable why my interest in the car and why i wanted to see the car owner. I explained to him that I own the same version of the 505 which is rare in Nigeria and I would like to know the owner, thats all. Well, he tried to explain to me what was wrong with the car, but he wasnt making sense. So I asked him to allow me to see the engine bay. When he opened the hood, I was shocked! Nearly all the vacuum lines were cut off from their various terminals. Weird! Well, i then asked him to start the car, when he did, i saw what or how the engine was behaving and knew right there the issue: an injection issue. A lot of things were wrong in that engine bay. No matter what the mechanic would tried to do, that issue must remain there, since all he explained to me he had done or replaced had nothing to do with the issue the car was having. In fact, he was creating more problems with his trial and error for that engine. He even replaced the MAF and installed the wrong part number (Luckly, I know the part number off head, since I have a similar car, with identical engine). I tried to get the owners phone number from him, but he wouldnt give me. Instead, he asked me to drop mine, that he would give the car owner whenever he comes, to call me. I made a note on the paper i gave to the mechanic to give to owner where i wrote down my number, explaining reason why i would want to meet with him, believing that the mechanic wouldnt understand what was written. I left them, after i realised that my presence there was no longer welcomed. As suspected, the owner never called because the mechanic would not have given him the note; fear that i want to collect chop from him! For another 3 more weeks, the car remained there at that workshop each time i passed there. At a point, I even forgot about it. 2 months later, i remembered, went back to check and the car was no longer there. Could be that the owner has towed the car to another workshop or only God knows what has happened to that car. This was a car I would have fixed that for person less than 24hrs, without a dime, if i had met him. There is no injection and ignition issue of 505 V6 i cannot fix myself. I have studied and mastered every wire from the 2 ECUs to various sensors, by knowing the function of each wire, sensors and components in that engine bay. I could tell quickly what is wrong with that EFI system and what the culprit would be with a little test with multimeter and test light. I dont need any scanner to diagnose and fix Bosch LH 2-2 Jetronic (EFI system of ZN3J - the PRV V6 engine in 505 V6). I couldnt help the guy because he was unlucky. If we had met in nairaland, he would have been saved from the hands of that clown that was killing the car when i went there. Possibly, he may have scrapped the car by now. Because there is no way that car would run properly with the condition i met it that day. So many wrongs were done in that engine bay.

Lets share our problems here in this thread and possibly get help from ourselves in keeping our Lions on the road as long as it takes.

Hello to all you lion den members and a special salutation and respect to the alpha lion Ikenna. He has created a thread that has grown out of a virtual environment and into the real world. His selflessness, passion and technical knowhow has given us courage not only to of n lions but to also helplessly love and respect the purring beast. Mr. Ikenna I say thank you. I have learnt a lot from this forum. I say thank you to all you awesome contributors who have kept the forum alive.
I own an EW10 406 2001 that I have driving for over a year now which was the reason i discovered this forum. It was an upgrade from my 306 (another lovely car). This car is the king of the road. It is agile, responsive steering control is top notch, it is surprisingly economical and a real joy to drive particularly long distance. I have not had any problem with my lion apart from the usual maintenance service or so I thought until my enlightenment from the forum:
1. My radio turns on and then goes off anytime I open the door (ref to the member whose fan starts) and I have to use code 00000 anytime I turn it on. The chunky control by the steering wheel does not work which is not surprising.
2. I had blown up a particular fuse about 3 times which stops the car from starting anytime that happens. In all the cases, the fuse was blown when I engage the reverse gear. A PP2000 scan after the first insident indicated that there are some permanent faults. They were cleared but the fuse blew twice after that.
3. There is this flexible part of the silencer that keeps bursting open. I replaced it twice until a third time when my replaced it with that of a VW golf. The lion has lost its growl but that net has not bursted since then.

I am new here but I am more than glad to discover this forum. I will appreciate your informed advice and comments. By the way, I live in Zaria Kaduna state. My number is 08037503898 for the whatsapp community. Thank you once again and keep the lions roaring.

Thank you so much for your compliment. I really appreciate. May God bless you.

Now, for your Lion's issues:

1. Wrong connection somewhere is making that happen. Are you sure what you have on that D9 is factory D9 Headunit (Radio)? Because D9 radio dont require any code to operate. The VIN is permanently stored in the radio which can only be changed with PP2000.

2. Just like above, only a wrong connection could make a fuse blow up twice within a short time.

3. You need to get a geniune 406 Flex, which appears you have not been buying.

I will add you to the group. Thank you.

I will add you to the group. Thank you.

From the images of the lion you posted, the wiper stalk and engine bay fuse box suggest your Lion is not 2001, but a late D9 with full multiplexing.

Is the 406 PAN production?

I have added you to the WhatsApp Peugeot community. Thank you.

Hello everyone, please what is the different between Nigerian assembly (PAN)406 with ew10 engine and imported to Nigeria. I had that the brain box of PAN 406 is more expensive than the imported.PAN goes for N80,000 while imported goes for N35,000. Also PAN has more elecrical problem than the imported.please ikenna what is your own take on these?

Hello klint,

You were wrongly informed. There is no difference please. However, there is what you might consider a difference in emission system, which is not peculiar to 406 produced by PAN.

Some foreign produced 406 phase II have downstream sensors while some don't. You can tell by their VIN. The ones RFR on their VINs mostly don't have that sensor, while those with RFN and others do have. This make the engine wiring harness and ECU different, even if they run on the same engine.

Now, for 406 phase II produced by PAN, which were all fully multiplexing, just like some foreign ones, all of them do not have downstream sensors, which make the engine ECU different. But then, their VINs mostly have RFN.

Every other thing is the same.

As for the ECU prices. You were wrongly informed as well. Brand new ECU for EW10 engine (which likely are designed to run engine without downstream sensors) cost about 80-100k, depending on where you buying from. But a used one cost much less than that, such as the 35k you mentioned.

Now because we have more foreign produced or imported 406 in Nigeria than the locally produced one by PAN, you will mostly find used ECUs and engine wiring harness of foreign 406 than PAN ones.

Now, if you care and handle a 406 well, you have nothing to worry about with prices of ECUs of PAN or foreign, because they were not made to fail unless you damage them by yourself. They last the lifespan of 406. People have covered about a million km mileages with their 406, with the same original engines, transmissions, Engine ECUs, etc. So, have no fear.
