This is a rejoinder to the popular threat by Oba of Lagos emphasizing his choice of Ambode as sacrosanct... All well & said I hope we have a discerning populace who can see beyond this ethnic bigotry. I have heard the audio format of the statement and I condemn it in its entirety.

Few days ago, I wrote an article on how badly Nigeria has been divided along tribal & religious lines, what is playing out today buttresses my points. However, I don't want to shift blames yet, I only want to emphasize more on the need to know our role in this whole script. A few are the kings & queens while most are pawns, I believe these buccaneers called politicians don't discriminate tribe & religion when they need to transfer their loot to HSBC, Wells Fargo etc but vehemently reiterate where an opponent comes from or which religion he has bias for when they need our votes to steal... in no time we shall get there, when we ask them "why".

My fellow Nigerians, please vote your conscience, these politicians are now scared of our choice & opinion hence all sorts of bickering to win over electorates. In no time, they will forget who voted and status quo antebellum returns. Nigerians should evaluate & re-evaluate their interest in each candidate thoroughly before voting, now that our votes have started counting; even if it is half-the-thumb the full thumb will count this weekend. Lagos for us all.

EKO ONI BAJE, O BAJE TI!

ozoigbondu:
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organisation of Ndigbo, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Oba of Lagos, Alhaji Rilwan Akiolu, to “retract and unconditionally apologise to Ndigbo” over his alleged death threat to Ndigbo living in Lagos should they fail to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Akinwumi Ambode, on April 11.

Apart from positing that democracy confers on the electorate, the freedom of choice, OYC said it considered the comments credited to Akiolu as “a despicable insult on the Igbo nation, home and abroad, least expected of a royal father in the rank of Oba of Lagos.”

The group called on security agencies to invite the Oba for questioning because of the grave dangers his current posture portends while lambasted the monarch for employing crude arm-twisting, obtaining by tricks tactics.

The monarch had reportedly threatened to make life unbearable for the Igbos in Lagos if they sabotage efforts being made to ensure that Ambode emerges as the next governor of the state.

Akiolu was said to have summoned all the Eze-Ndigbo in Lagos State to his palace yesterday and told them: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode, who I picked, that is your end. If it does not happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.

“By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.

“For the Igbo and others in Lagos, they should go where the Oba of Lagos heads to. When they were coming to the state, they did not come with all their houses. But now, they have properties in the state. So they must do my bidding. And that is the bidding of the ancestors of Lagos and God.

“I am not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi is my blood relation and I told him that he could never be governor in Lagos for now. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere you cannot do it here.”

Reacting to the monarch’s outburst, OYC, in a statement issued this afternoon in Umuahia and endorsed by its National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, warned that “Igbo youths will not take this insult lightly, and unless he apologises within 48 hours he should know he is courting our wrath.”

OYC further warned that should anything happen to Ndigbo or their business interests in Lagos in the event of APC losing the Lagos governorship race, the Oba should be held responsible.

“Inasmuch as we do not want to get involved in Lagos politics, we want to sound a note of warning that no Igbo should be vilified or persecuted for his or her electoral choice in Lagos or any part of Nigeria,” the group said.

“Every Nigerian has the constitutional right to reside in any part of the country and participate in the electoral process based on one’s convictions, and electoral choice is not a crime,” it added.

Isiguzoro said “nobody no matter what he thinks he is, has the right to command Ndigbo anywhere on who to vote for in a democratic setting.”

He said that the unprintable comments credited to the Oba had only revealed his innate hatred for Ndigbo.

The Oba, according to him, “should be reminded that the economy of Lagos will collapse should Ndigbo decide to pull their investments from the commercial city.”

He said that “Ndigbo have remained the most persecuted , hated and marginalised tribe in Nigeria , yet the most enterprising and highest contributors to the growth of its economy, peace and unity.”

OYC asserted that the Igbo race needs commendation and not hatred for their ingenuity, versatility and presence in every part of the country, adding that God has destined Ndigbo to prosper in any part of the world, even in hostile environments.

The group, therefore, encouraged Ndigbo in Lagos and elsewhere to vote according to their conscience in the forthcoming polls without fear of intimidation.

I thought you people said Igbos are irrelevant, why should they be afraid of the so called irrelevant to Lagos State. If the past government have treated Igbo people well, i don't think they would've been afraid of their votes by now.

'Who are you people?!'

And I thought you people said you make up more 60% of Lagos?! undecided Ohaneze should compel Igbos to use their votes for the Igbo interest if they so wish rather than issue meaningless threats across the Niger.

Ambode, distanced himself from the message almost immediately, PDP on the other hand are using it. How we only hold APC accountable for an ethnocentric comment they did not make is beyond me!

Ndi igbo should as a matter of urgency put up modalities to take over or annex Lagos.

Who is going to stop them?

It is very easy. Buy up Lagos, increase the rent to minimum of N1m per annum and most Yoruba people will run to Ogun state. All these shakara go stop.

Oba got it wrong agreed. We've all bashed him.

Now they are asking Kabiyesi to apologize.

Kabiyesi should apologize to Igbos?

Just imagine the insult.

This madness is going to end someday.

Someday.

if the oba is guarded by gods, he has no guard!

I see a generation of youths who are digging their grave,i see a group of babies all over the social media who dont have a foresight of what the future is all about. I see a generation of men and women who will live to regret their actions, all because they couldnt know when to speak and when to apply wisdom.

I see a nation divided, built on hate, developed on ethnic sentiments and driven with tribalism..I dont wish to see the effect of what we are brewing up for our children
I see a nation that will end up being more divided than progressing, all because words were spoken which tore down walls and created rivers without bridges.
In as much as i dont like what the Oba said (IF IT IS EVENTUALLY TRUE). What i dont want to accept is the insult on any other tribe and ethnic group. We refuse to accept and correct our leaders. In years to come, the oba might no longer be there....but the seed of tare you are sowing,be ready to harvest it.
Yes Ibo's have voiced their mind on what the Oba said.....BUT each of you raining insults and provocative words, will one day look back and discover that the society you have is what you built with your words.
There is no doubt, tribalism is a fast growing infection, spreading like wildfire and feasting on the minds of Nigerians.
If we cant help ourselves,we will end up going backwards, even in the face of the best infrastructural development.

The Oba is a mortal, flesh and blood.....not a demigod or the Almighty.
If you are wrong, accept and make amends........THE PEACE OF OUR LAND IS IN OUR HANDS.WITHOUT BOWS AND ARROWS,WE CAN IGNITE WARS OF HATRED NO WATER CAN QUENCH.

NOTE-DONT QUOTE ME FOR ANY SARCASTIC COMMENT,YOU ARE SURELY ON YOUR OWN.
THANKS

A nation is a country with people who share similar value systems and pursue development goals for all of their country.
Nigeria is not a nation, and can never be. Crude oil and natural gas from one part of Nigeria are what hold Nigerians one.

In which nation can someone like the Oba make such threat he made to others in the same nation? None. We are all deceiving ourselves in pursuit of one Nigeria as a nation.

Every new day brings new realities that we are wasting time.

Learn and straight forward? There is a yoruba proverb that says: the way you do in our land might be abomination in another kingdom. I don't know if your king is cheap that he will say something and later rescined his statement. But as for yoruba the king is the 2nd in command after God

1. Oba will not apologise
2. Igbos will vote PDP
3. AGBAJE will win
4. The oba will dissociate himself from the statement - delegation will be sent to Governor Agbaje that he is loyal.

Ok let's wait and see.

Oba is the monarch of lagos, he has to protect the interest of lagos first. The very many projects that will make lagos the number 1 city in Africa are underway by the APC government and he feels the igbos do not like and want this coz they don't want the yoruba region to be way ahead of them should nigeria break up (God forbid). You can only understand his frustration at any attempt to scuttle the advancement that has been witnessed in Lagos state in the last 16years.

...yoruba region to be ahead of them (igbos). Did u hear yaself? No matter anyone's pretence or denial, igbos are atop.
I have my blame for my Igbo brothers when it comes to developing their region collectively, but that won't take it from them that they are mostly responsible for the development of most part of Nigeria including your so-called western region.
Be informed
