Does Gej still think those executive powers are meant for him to use? No doubt the clueless one was instructed by his "advisers" against signing it because it was a ploy by the opposition to reduce his presidential powers and "sabotage" his government grin grin

They should send it back to him the next time he gets drunk. grin

Meanwhile, someone please remind him that Nigerians won't require his catastrophic signature on such sensitive documents after May 29th.

Problem is that as the years go by, surviving Nigerians, including your type, tend to forget that the said constitution remains the near illegal document supervised by a few northern soldiers and imposed upon Nigeria by military fiat in 1999.

The main objective of the 1999 constitution was to legalize the roguish 36 states political structure which proliferated too many states in the north to enable a northern cabal dictate what happens in Nigeria - determine who becomes the country's president, rake home a fatter portion of national revenues in a unitary government system, unitary govt system which the north has refused to change to old regional government system.

Unless Nigeria gets a constitution made in a democratic environment, such as in a national conference, any amendment in the 1999 constitution is still unduly influenced by a northern cabal whose representatives unduly over populate the National Assembly

Your crassness in your post shows your lack of proper upbringing.

Should Jonathan sign the ammendment now it not only gives the legislators executive functions that they are not originally vested with but will also seriously affect the capabilities of your in coming messiah.

Obviously the ammendment was drawn with Jonathan in mind. Now that Jonathan is out of office, he still acted without bias to protect the powers of the executive.

This is leadership that ensures the institution and office of the Presidency is intact.

But you won't understand this because your hatred for this man has turned your brain off.

Am surprised at the responses of NLanders on this. GEJ has nothing to loose by ascenting to the amendments given his remaining tenure. That probably is the reason why the upper house is surprised that he did not 'cut down' the powers of the incoming president and subsequent ones as the constitution is not amended too frequently.
This again has shown GEJ maturity and goodwill to GMB's administration. Most leaders would have a 'dog in a manger' approach to an issue like this. If they are not benefitting, they are putting others down.
Let us respect the man for his goodwill.

The APC zombies are the daftest people on the planet.

The ammendment was done specifically with GEJ in mind. Now that he is leaving office, they anticipatted he will ascend to their demands thereby crippling the powers of the incoming executive.

What we should all wait and see is if the same document will be sent to Buhari when a new assembly is constituted with a new leadership under the APC and if it is sent to Buhari for ascent let's wait and see if Buhari will sign it.

The coming months will expose the hypocrites and traitors for who they really are.

Watch and see if the newly constituted Senate under the APC will resend the ammendment to Buhari.

If they do which is highly unlikely let's wait and see if Buhari will sign it.

The hypocrisy of the janjawiid crowd is legendary.

You are the clueless one here. How old are you? You should first of all understand what the president is fighting. He is not fighting for himself, rather for his successor. The legislative arm of the government is trying to usurp powers of the executive arm. If GEJ is wicked, he would simply append his signature on that bill. And if he does so, Buhari's tenure will be at the mercy of the legislators. Think before you criticize. Be wise

in as much as i suppose the incoming president, GEJ shld do nigerian that favor of signing that bills now, since he will not be the one to make use of it, and it will go along way to caution the incoming president, not to get power drunk/intoxicated.

I dnt even believe GEJ will refuse to sign this bill, before election proper, this man promise to implement Oransanye Report, and as well the report of the yeye National conference, in which both report talk about reducing the power at the center.

pls where is Afenifere, that claim they are suporting this GEJ because they believe he is the only one that can implement the national conference report.

so GEJ is already power intoxicated, that he now refuse to let loss of some of the power, imagine if this man have won the re-election, this is how he will refuse to sign all the report he promise to sign and implement.

Nawa ooooooooooooooooo

pls GEJ follower shld tell him, he is leaving that office in a couple of days, so he shld pls help nigerian by signing that bill, and let the senate pass it into law, to help checkmate other president coming after him.

cause nobody will be there and will allow power to be reduce from him jst like that, without doing any thing.

GEJ pls sign.....................................................

I think his refusal at this point is not to secure anything for himself but for the incoming president. It's left for Buhari to consider and follow if it is in the interest of the nation. Any man can just relinquish the powers of the presidency after all he's not there again to enjoy the powers.

Why do you choose to be among those who lack basic understanding of the difference between the type of govt that Buhari presided over in the 80s and what is obtainable in the current dispensation? It is quite damaging to be willfully ignorant out of convenience.

Even at that, did GEJ not abuse his powers by notoriously haunting, and embarrassing Amaechi and almost setting up a parallel govt in the state?
It's on record that Opposition governors and leaders were placed under surveillance and sometimes had their movements restricted. Or you want to tell me that there was someone else running the government on behalf of GEJ, committing those abuses?
You are the one that needs the enlightenment. Am sure you never took into consideration the personal disposition of the individual. Which is a major factor; the president can be over bearing with the enormous power granted by the constitution. A case in point is OBJ. His list of atrocities are endless; kangaroo impeachment, unlawful arrest, kidnap of a sitting governor, etc. and Buhari has a similar tendency to OBJ or do you doubt that.

Yes, looking @ this man Gej, I just wonder why he allowed over confidence of the PDP ruling party/ power thing to prevent him from being grateful for the love that we showed him in 2011 polls.

I am Yoruba and a Christian, I wholeheartedly and lovingly voted for Jonathan in 2011, Against buhari and all other candidates, I was particularly happy when Atiku lost to him in the PDP primaries; but Alas, his performance especially in the aspect of corruption/impunity made me changed my mind concerning him because I was disappointed. Now I voted against him just like every true lover of our nation's progress will. But what we get from mischievous PDP is inciting our brothers from SS & SE to believe their "brother" was betrayed.

This is unfair for millions of southwesterners and even Northcentral/ Middlebelt Nigerians that truly believed in Gej and was on His side to herald the fact that a South South candidate must be given Nigeria's support to rule Nigeria, and hence voted him(In 2011).

Our South East Brothers especially are really getting it all wrong.

It was never about the West backing a Northern agenda. They argue the West did not criticize Obasanjo.

The level of awareness now in 2015 is different from the level of awareness as at 2003 when Obasanjo contested for second term. The social media was not yet alive then. Facebook was created in 2004, somany of the other blogs and our flexible access to the Internet came latter too.

Even then(2003), so many people dint have access to independent news broadcasts like Channels & others. How many people had Dstv then, MAJORITY were all stuck to NTA, and thus cannot be really informed on the wrongs of Obasanjo. I repeat again, the level of awareness now is different from then.

Let's not give the Devil a chance. With proper leadership, we All need each other. One of the biggest Deposit of Iron ore in the world(said to be better than Japan's own) is in Ajaokuta(Kogi state-North central), Somany food items we need and consume are most suitably grown on the savannah soil of the farther North(E.g, Beans, Onions, groundnut, etc), The West has the only suitable land for cocoa, the major survival resource of the largest and most successful French speaking African country- Ivory coast. Oil deposits was discovered in Lagos, but no adequate commitment yet from any of our government to conduct more research and expand our oil deposit base the way US did recently and they stopped needing our oil.

Gold deposit is in Ilesa-South West. Gold is the leading natural resource of South Africa which many of us run to en mass for greener pastures, Tin is in Jos, Coal is in Enugu, Oil is in South South, How many can I mention? We ALL Need Each Other.

I Pray God will give us Unity, and Proper leadership, which we Lack, Need, Which I Crave For, and which informed many Nigerians' Political Choice for Change in the recent past elections. May God Almighty Help us. Amen.
brother thank you for your comment, from ur comments ur really educated because by their fruits you shall know them.help me to inform other brothers and sisters here that making a tribal comments can not help us in this country rather it's will kill our trust from one another we need each other to survive
