Saro talks about those that sets us up, into fighting each other, they stoke Igbophobic utterances, "Igbos want your oil, but we have come to liberate you", they say, but when we are both fighting each other, they both sneak in and take the treasure( black gold) in our house, to build up their own cities, in the name of capital cities. Already, some of them are already in this thread, going crazy about the SS/SE union, Saro called them the monsters!

s!
Have you forgotten
So soon
My brother
From the gold coast!
,
Aaa!
Why,
Brother, can’t you see?
The monsters come
They come to us
Call us each to one side
And say:
I set a prize
Here is a string of blades
Blunt blades, you can see
Only wrap them
Around your ankles
Around your wrists
Around your fist
And fight your brother!
You are right
But he is wrong
I set a prize
Fight!
And we fight each other
And while we are cut up
In the fight
The monsters go out
Stealthily
Like a jesting ripple at sea
And carter away
The wealth in our house
And it occurs again
Another time
They ante up butchery prizes
And we fight and wound
Why, why, why?
Brother mine!
Why do we fight!

Come,
Bring out
Your arrows and bows
Gather them here
Let us make a Big Heap
Of them
And set them aflame
We will watch it
Reduce to ashes
Gather up your guns
Cutlasses, knives, daggers
Arrows, spears,
Your amulets, your charms
All of them
All the crafts
Made by our own hands
Which ignite the fire of enmity
Upon the piths
Of our huts
Bring them all out
Let us set them ablaze
Let us make a caricature
Of our adversaries
Let us show the world
Our oneness

Saro calling for reconciliation and bond strengthening.

Come,
Let us smash
The mirror
Standing in the centre
Of the arena
Displaying our past
Furiously,
Let us demolish
The walls separating us
Let us smash to pieces
The black pot
Of our past
We do not want
Our differences
Reflected in them
We do not want
To remember
The scene yesterday
Between us
Come now,
Let us tie again
The string of brotherhood
And stand
As one people

Saro emphasizes the need for us to identify the "monsters" and eliminate them. Even on NL here, we have the monsters amongst us, they pose as Igbos or as Niger deltans and try as much as possible to give us more reasons why we shouldnt unite, they try as much as possible to stoke past grievances between us.Saro many years ago, was aware of their existence, he learnt from experience.

Where is he
That says
We must fight
With irons and metals;
Where is he
That stirs up
The water of anger
In our youth
Bring him out quickly
And we will banish him
Out of our sight
Out of our filthily
Decrepit homestead
Out of this land
We want oneness
We want victory
We want one fist!

Inter-Regional integration certainly isn't a minus to the larger community. Its a shame some ppl see it as a threat. Aren't the SW governors towing a similar policy?
They know that anything that looks like integration of SS and SE is gonna be a big blow to Nigeria. Hence they've bn doing everything possible to make sure we're divided while milking Nigeria dry

This election is an eye opener. A blessing in disguise if u ask me
It exposes the hypocrisy of some regions in Nigeria

So, there we have it.

OP, your idea of SS/SE unity is not a new one, Saro many years ago, with the advantage of hindsight and experience, having once been a rabid Igbophobic person himself, came to the realization that SE/SS unity is the only way, both regions can free themselves from this colonial entrapment.

His realizations remain true, even until this moment!

I want an Igbo republic, you want a Niger delta republic, fine and cool, we work together, and split when we are out of the Zoo.

Something had to change, that's why God gave us this election. Goodluck Jonathan changed lives in way he never intended. Old men, Old women, young and middle aged SS people are simply shocked, not by his loss but the way it played out.

Me and my idealistic self.

Personally I see a politically unified Eastern region as one which can best protect the cultural values of the people therein, and secure their economic future.

What else do I want....nothing.

http://nsibiri..co.uk/p/mission.html

Culture -Language: A union that supports people like the guy responsible for this script, GIN, which can be used for languages such as Efik, Ibibio, Ejagham, Igbo, etc. China and Japan have shown how unifying a writing system understood by different language groups can be, and what unity as a people can achieve.

Economy - Laws: An Eastern union is obviously best placed to demand for fair laws at the national level that promote it's economic growth, such as laws regarding resource control over resources like oil, natural gas, coal, limestone, uranium, and iron ore (how wonderful..we have in the SS/SE the Major resources needed for an industrialized economy). Those for power, concrete, steel, chemicals etc.)

Economy - Economic security:
An Eastern union is best placed to compete with other regions of West Africa and secure it's economic future, because as a political block it can pool together it's resources to create a highly needed "sane space" in the West Africa sub-region. Better than that which attains in Lagos or Accra, where transportation, affordable power, security, housing, and education would not be an issue. Already we have IPPs in Abia, Rivers state, and Akwa Ibom, capable of powering their surrounding cities, yet there is little political will to bring them fully online.

All this while in Nigeria, big yes. Still, the Eastern region as a block has comparative advantage in major economic goods over almost any other place in the West African sub region, and one Nigeria should not stop it from competing fairly. So i'm all for UNITY.

the East has always been the most peaceful part of Nigeria since before the founding of Nigeria.
the idea will stick no matter what the naysayers say or do.
we are naturally one -complete and complementary of one another in Eastern Nigeria.

you will never hear of rancor between tribes in the east
the only political violence you see there is the one imported by "foreign" parties with foreign mindset and culture... like APC. cry

we don't even need to make much effort at uniting our goals, because the rest of the country has and would always try to treat us like second class citizens in Nigeria, even after feeding them with our resources -human and natural.
they kicked our brother to the curb as if he is a usurper to the office.
they couldn't find any good in him, and never gave him rest for nearly 6 years, even after he developed their lands better than the east.
they hounded and shouted him out of office!
and when we complain they call us sentimental.
when obasanjo was there they supported him fully for 8 whole years, and it was not sentimental. undecided

anyway, God is using Jonathan's plight to unite us in ways that will change our destiny for the better.

let me make prediction now: they will do everything possible to re-divide us again by giving a juicy appointment to one of us.
but we will never forget what they did to jona. never.

barcanista:
PLEASE READ before commenting.

Pre-1967, the people of South South and Igbo dominated South East had lived harmoniously within the entity called Nigeria under the "Eastern Region" nomenclature. Permit me to use the nomenclature "Easterners" rather than SS/SE as a symbol of our unity.

Two Events That Soiled The Relationship
23, February 1966:
The Niger Deltans led by late Isaac Boro led were dissatisfied with the system called Nigeria because of the marginalisation of the people in the region declared an independent "Niger Delta Republic". This republic was short-lived and crushed by then Nigeria leader Lt Gen Aguiyi Ironsi and Lt Col Odumegwu Ojukwu. Because they had believed in one Nigeria.

30 May 1967:
Col Ojukwu declared Biafra Republic after the collapse of Aburi Accord between himself and Gowon. Though the Niger Deltans was part of the republic as declared, people from the region were divided in loyalty with majority aligning to remain in Nigeria rather than Biafra. In fact, Boro was recruited to fight against the Biafra republic.

These two events led to bad blood, distrust, feelings of betrayals, and others amongst the "old" Easterners. We even went as far as denying relationships, rewriting history to suit our individual ethnic groups and tribes and create negative perception against each other.

The March 28, 2015 Event
The Presidential election presented us opportunity to test our collective unity as a sub-group within the Nigeria state. It was worthy to note that though the President is of Ijaw ethnic stock, virtually everyone from within the "old" Eastern region stock irrespective of tribe rallied round to support him and showed it through the ballot. The defeat of Jonathan brought tears to many and created emotional reaction. A message was passed. The message was a message of "We Are Emotionally United".

Important Points From These Events
1. A second look at the event of 1966 and 1967-1970 will tell that what motivated the two events were feelings of marginalisation and loss of confidence within Nigeria state to address the issue both sociopolitically and economically.

2. We all recognise injustice in the system and have been used against each other. While an Igbo Leader and Governor worked against the Niger Delta in 1966 to preserve the Nigeria state, the Niger Delta majority led by an Ijaw soldier fought against the Biafra movement to preserve the Nigeria state between 1967 and 1970.

3. We all realise our emotional unity and the strength in a united front and expressed it on March 28 via the ballot.

4. We have no choice but to form a common bloc as "easterners" to press home our demand and be a major player within the Nigeria state...just like our Northern and Western brothers have been doing.

5. We have to let go of whatever grievances of the past(1966 and 1967-70) and forge a common front as brethren for the benefit of all irrespective of tribe.

6. In unity we have an avenue to press home our demands by engaging local, states and federal leaders for the good of all by exploiting every legitimate means. We also will become major political bloc and will no longer be at the mercy of any region. Our socio-political relationship with other region will be symbiotic and not one-way.

Finally, there is strength in unity...Let's exploit it.
Barcanista GOD Bless you for this thread, I know an not suppose to be here making comments citing am not from Eastern region (SS/SE). But am tempted to. Hip praises on u for u/standing not to preach violence to make the entity called Nigeria u/stand the sacrifice the region has been making.
I also Hope and pray that the incoming gov't shows purposeful leadership as promised and carry all regions along. One sharp contrast we do have Barcanista is u believe Rivers state governor betrayed the region but me one other hand seem to think his goin to be an icon in that region. Am not trying create an argument but simply try to point out that we may disagree on a lot of issues but let's always have our people in mind and Nigeria at heart.
Let's try to always pray for our leaders both past and present. They did their best.
GOD Bless GEJ and GMB.
GOD Bless our past leaders alive.
GOD Bless us all as Nigerian's and GOD Bless Nigeria.
Thank you and stay Blessed.

They are freedom fighters. What barcanista is proposing is totally different. If those radio biafran people had access to ammunition like NDVF nigeria will be in a serious war. This should be peaceful and it should be about getting the eastern bloc a say in the affairs of this country.

@Barcanista, God will bless you abundantly for this thread. Thank you for taking your time to highlight what caused disharmony between us in 1966/67 and also highlighting what has brought us together. The 2015 general elections has no doubt, opened our eyes to so many things in Nigeria. Let us stay united and form a common power bloc-the Eastern bloc. I have always said that the division of SE/SS was politically done to weaken the East and continue to keep us under. You are correct in saying that no one should call for violence as this is not a sign of bravery or strength. We can demand what we want from Nigeria if you stay united as one.

I am very happy and proud of my people for standing with the minority president till the last minute. Let us stay together and play the opposition while we continue to watch Nigeria. People of the SE/SS, do not be deceived anymore, there are groups in this country trying very hard to see that we remain disunited but we must not allow them. A word is enough for the wise.

It is very unfortunate that instead of educated Nigerians to concentrate on how to make the APC government deliver, the ethnic divide is yet again created. I expect Barcanista who had belonged to both APC and PDP in the course of the elections to understand that divisive ethnic politics is what defeated GEJ.
Starting a thread on how to hold the PDP and APC accountable will be most appropriate.
Anyways, the Urhobo, Itsekiri, Isoko, Anioma Afemai, Wanna Wepo Etc will still look at this thread with suspicion.

I'm still trying to fathom why this thread is deemed as a gang up against north and SW.
Are people seriously kidding me with that ish? Where or what in OP original post gave such suggestions. Are people f2king serious? Una are that afraid of a SS/SE unity seriously? Smh at the hypocrisy.

@topic.
I don't trust the OP one bit and based on his past utterances he's nothing but a hypocrite. But that does not mean, I do not agree that SS and SE need to work together if we actually ever going to achieve our desires. It was my best friend, an ibibio that opened my eyes in terms of all gang ups against SS and SE. For some una, it was this past election that cleared una eyes but there were some of us that was enlightened prior to the election. All the election did was prove my believes once more. I've always maintained SS and SE need eachother to achieve whatever they desire. If we stop pushing against eachother, stop fighting against eachother we can achieve greatness. I'll use my people for example. For years now, delta north have tried numerously to obtain the governorship of Delta and for years, our work has been in vain. It was a year or was it two years ago we allowed SE Igbos to put a voice in our fight. Though they didn't invade delta governorship, they spoke up multiple times about it and from what I heard, it was Peter Obi that pushed for a deltan northern to be PDP flag bearer. How accurate that is, I'm not sure. Just a rumor that my cousin told me. Anyway, in the short period of them getting involved, a task we sort for years has finally become a reality.

What did that teach? It thought one voice can never achieve anything. The more people you have in your circle pushing for the same agenda, the more likely it's going to become a reality. That is something north learned and worked on hence when MB where showing signs of breaking off from the "united north", they worked deliberately to appease them and bring them back in the fold.

We needed eachother to survive in that country and I laugh that both regions, SS and SE, allowed others to create a rift between eachother and continue pushing that rift till well this election cleared una eyes.
You allowed others to constantly narrate to you how both of una "hated" eachother, don't have the best interest for eachother, and trying to steal from eachother yet you all have lived next to eachother for centuries with barely any conflict, intermarried with eachother till the point many of your cultures are mixed yet you allowed outsiders to tell you about your own neighbors? Smh!!!.
Funny enough those same neighbors have no regards for una. They claim to save SS oil from the greedy SE Igbos yet ironically every oil plots in SS is not owned by a SS and likewise the same for SE except maybe 3 or 4 igbos. They told you SE Igbos they love you more that your SS neighbors and even your SS igbo brothers yet they kill you and even spread fiticious rumors about you in order to damage una names.
I swear, I'm shocked it took both of una this long to actually realize you have no friends in that country and the way your ancestors lived was the RIGHT F2king way.

If we actually serious about this whole unity thing then una need to start from within ourselves.
SS ethnic groups needs to stop attacking and killing eachother over little things. SE need to stop with the state vs. State mess. You all f2king igbo for Godsake. You would think it's the Igala in Anambra and idoma in enugu that'll be getting you all discrimination due to their tribal differences but No, you all are attacking your own selves based solely on states. In my opinion, fixing SS and SE indigenous mentality is first thing to do in this "unity" if you all are truly serious of advancing both regions into one of the most developed in Africa. Both region have the potential, it just when do you ppl plan on unlocking it is the question right now.

We are saying the same thing. [S]The SW has been in opposition since Obj left office[/s] and it wasn't considered enemy action so why should an awakened conciousness of the old east be a problem my sister?

Busted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know u na. No be you again? cheesy U always claim to be from different regions in Nigeria cos u're everly mischievous. Now you want us to believe you're a Midwesterner to cause division here.

Below is your recent post where u claimed to be from Lagos

aresa:

Lagos was developed state before Nigeria as a country and Yorubaland survived and garnered first in everything before your oil so kill that noise. Oil was nothing but a huge distraction and setback for us...

Thats why they say 'a liar should have good memory'
Honey get a job and pls don't come back to this thread. Don't let me expose you further by giving different topics where U've claimed different regions before. The good thing is even if u go back and edit, one or two persons must have quoted your ass before.

So Just quietly take your shameless self and exit this thread without looking back.
And Close the door behind you. Thanks
