His, my friend's genotype is AA and his wife's genotype is AS but their 4 year old daughter has been confirmed to have SS genotype by not less than 4 different medical experts. He confronted the wife and accused her of infidelity but she vehemently denied having any affair with another man. In other to prove her wrong, my friend subjected the little girl to a paternity test and there he got the shock of his life - the result showed he actually is the father of the girl. At first he accused the doctor of compromise because he is their family doctor and somehow relates to the wife. He then decided to go to another hospital to prove the paternity of the girl child there and then he got another shocker - the first result was actually correct. As It stands, my friend has consulted more than five other doctors outside the state of his residence and all Confirmed that the girl's genotype is SS and he actually is the father of the child despite his and the wife's genotype being as stated above. Even the doctor's are confused by the results as it negate conventional medical norm.

My question now is, experts in the house, is there anything that can lead to such unconventional biological flaw? Under what condition can AS and AA couple have an SS child? Can mutation lead to such condition? My friend insists on divorce because he doesn't believe the wife. Should he go ahead based on what we all know about genotype?

This is practically IMPOSSIBLE. The child CANNOT be the man's if the story here is exactly true. AA and AS cannot bear an SS.

If a man with AA and a woman with AS have a baby. Here is the genotype of the baby-2 outcomes of the offspring-- AA, AS.. The chances of the baby being an AS are 25% while the chances of the baby being AA are 75%.. Chances of the baby being SS are 0.000000001%

He should just let it go and take care of the Baby because one day God can change the child's genotype. Its possible.

They should have a DNA done.

What kind of paternity test was done? Was it done for the three of them? I mean the mother, father and the child? Either the genotype or the Paternity test is not correct. What kind of paternity test do you do with only the girl? A paternity test will involve the father, mother and the child...usually a DNA. my take us that the paternity test they are doing on this girl is not correct. The woman should say the truth and put the devil to shame

Does the husband have a brother that is AS or SS? Sometimes women having difficulty conceiving mate with their husband's family so the DNA stays the same as the husband's.

I have heard about this situation before, Its really strange.
Similar situation happen to another family, They are in the United States now.
After testing the child in Nigeria and the result comfirms SS in 3 different Hospitals. The Parent took the child for further test abroad and found out that their daughter is neither AA, AS or SS. There are some other rear genotype, I can't remember exactly what her genotype is... but if your so called friend can researched other genotype and ask more foreign expert about it.
Please don't quote me wrong, I am not saying the Doctors or tests are wrong, I am just telling on what I have heard before in the past.

Lemme share a very true life story with U.
Over 15years ago, my younger brother was ill and we went to the hospital and discovered he is SC (NOT SS), a very rare genotype. My mum is AS & my dad is AA. I hace only one AS in my sibling and the DNA confirmed my dad as the father of my brother. Very very rare genotype combo which science sometimes dont explain.

Moral of the story: your friend should take a chill pill

now this is what i think.... there are various types of the sickle cell phenotype... there's the S,C,and a couple of others.. could be the child is a thallasemic child and not necessarily a sickle cell patient or.... the childl possesses other type of the s phenotypes cos genotypically speaking..its almost impossible for AA/AS couple to produce as SS child. but then science is just science impossible to predict at the extremes.

he has two choices.. accept the child and give him or her the best care she needs or turn her/him into a lab rat for prodding with all kinda syringe till a plausible conclusion is reached.

The man should re check his geno type. The same thing happened to a friend. A recheck showed his test result AS, meaning his 1st result was wrong. They were forced to lived with the situation.
