My friend's 10 year Marriage is about to collapse.

As It stands, my friend has consulted more than five other doctors outside the state of his residence and all Confirmed that the girl's genotype is SS and he actually is the father of the child despite his and the wife's genotype being as stated above. Even the doctor's are confused by the results as it negate conventional medical norm.

My question now is, experts in the house, is there anything that can lead to such unconventional biological flaw? Under what condition can AS and AA couple have an SS child? Can mutation lead to such condition? My friend insists on divorce because he doesn't believe the wife. Should he go ahead based on what we all know about genotype?

Medically it's impossible so I think they should carry out paternity text to be sure if the man is the real father of the child

4. when tests (hb electrophoresis, sickling test )are carried out on the man, they will appear normal as it takes DNA analysis to detect the deletion
5. almost certain this is what happened as a paternity test ruled out infidelity
6 . hope I am clearer.

I've a funny feeling that the man's genotype is not AA, he appears to not have decided to retest himself. I believe he is either AS or AC. He seems to really want to divorce his wife very quickly. That's highly worrying, since it implies he has some serious trust issues with his wife. I've no idea if the man himself is rather dodgy, he just seems to want to end the situation very quickly.

It's amazing how some people on NL seem so eager to scream infidelity at the wife, even though the story says the family have had more than one DNA test that confirms the man is the father. Nowhere has it been pointed out in this story, that the man has officially confirmed his genotype as AA.

The human body is a funny thing, mutations are known to happen, if it has been confirmed that he is indeed AA, then it could simply be a rare case with the child. But know this, after the smoke clears, his wife will find it very hard to trust her husband, since his behaviour will definitely bring fresh doubts into her mind.

Resolving this biological mystery is simple;

1. The man checks his genotype again in at least two different labs.
2. The woman checks her genotype again in at least two different labs
3. Analyze the two results and see if it conforms with the child's
4. If the results are still as stated in your writeup, then the woman has to reveal the paternity of that child.

The man is not AA it happen to me.after about two or more test before I feel that I am AA genotype. I was saying I will marry anybody I want when I wanted to get marry my wife said we should repeat the test I refuse. The reason is that I know myself that I tested it even in abroad but after I agree after the test,the result show that I am AS my wife AA I was shock.

Its very easy to point fingers and talk against people. Some even suggested outright divorce. From what I read, the man is the girl's father. I guess some people jumped that or didn't read the story at all. Pls sir, tell your friend he shouldn't be fast to judge his wife. Some people here have given real life instances to show that it happens in rare cases. I believe science has gone further than the old AA AS stuff. The man should go to specialists to tell him why such a thing happened and stop pointing fingers at his wife.

But mehn, he needs to be careful and really wise here - what if the wife is telling the truth? I must be honest here though, from my limited knowledge of these things it is IMPOSSIBLE for a carrier and a non-carrier to produce a sickler - Mendel's laws of genetics would have to be rewritten. But you know what they say, never say never.

Now that I think of it, the gender of a foetus is dependent on similar genetic laws: the man gives one from his (xy) and the woman gives one from her (xx), so the offspring is either (xx) x-from dad and x-from mum, or (xy) y-from dad and x-from mum. But every once in a crazy while, an (xxy) or something weird like that is produced, and that's how you get hermaphrodites. So... oga needs to be careful with his decision. By the way, has the woman ever given him cause to doubt her fidelity? One doesnt just throw away a 10-yr-old marriage like that.

Just as people of SS genotypes who are married can have children with AA genotypes...............happens but very rare.

It's science.........genetics is one of the craziest science i've ever come across.
It has to do with a gene that has been dormant but strong enough to have crept up now.

I don't know how to explain it fully, even the doctors won't do it except they see a renowned geneticist

I think this can only be explained spiritually and not biologically. Many at times I have heard testimonies that God changed their probable SS child to AA miraculously as much as He changed a probable girl to boy (after much prayers) or vice versa.
His ways are not ours.

Lemme share a very true life story with U.
Over 15years ago, my younger brother was ill and we went to the hospital and discovered he is SC (NOT SS), a very rare genotype. My mum is AS & my dad is AA. I hace only one AS in my sibling and the DNA confirmed my dad as the father of my brother. Very very rare genotype combo which science sometimes dont explain.

Moral of the story: your friend should take a chill pill

know someone that is AC! mum was AA and his dad always thought he was AA for a longtime as that was what he was told b4 getting married until a us based dr tested him and said he was AC!
