In 1952, Nobel Prize winning author Wole Soyinka and a group of six friends formed the Pyrate Confraternity at the elite University College, Ibadan, then part of the University of London..#History

Seriously nollywood needs to do a movie about this oau tale. Though One of this yoruba nollywood boys did a movie about the 1999 oau fracas.they call him lala but I think his name is muyideen.he did a movie called omo university but they didn't really say the whole story. They jumped many parts. If nollywood has sense they can make a blockbuster out of this tale. It has potentials like titanic. But they need to invest a lot of money time and professionals into the movie with the right technical equipment. Director and producer must have sense.

If they take their time to make this movie let's say about 5 years with thoroughness they will go places instead of some of the mass production thrash I see around

Phew! *heaves a sigh of relief* The day I ran like Ben Johnson into the thick, dark forest of OAU without thinking of the danger ahead. I mean what other danger can be brutal as the one I was running away from. Now 16 years and it seems like yesterday. May their soul rest in peace. I just hope Faro and Legacy are doing great. They both escaped death by a whisker.
Bros u witnessed it? shocked I hail ooooo!! grin

God just saved me that day. We were to write Physics 101 test the following day and i had planned reading in the school area and carry fresh brain into the test hall, didn't know what made me decide to leave for hostel around 9.30pm and went to sleep. Woke up later around 4.30 and was hearing gunshots, before that period we had been told they were trying to regroup around new buka and so, i started making mouth that - these cultists don't fear us again o....not knowing the gunshots was sounding from Awo Hall. Later, a room member was like if all of us can just rush them, they will run away. Nnext thing i heard was someone shouting - E Jade o! E jade o! Won ti pa Afrika o!(Come out, Come out, they have killed Afrika). Omo! See diving like we would enter under the bed. Some of my roomies were just shouting - Off the light! Off the light! Who wants to die grin. Next morning, i took off to Ibadan straight.....was hearing the rest on news...till we went back after some days. Even, aftershocks still came when some people will raise false alarm that they around again....see the way people will take off and one of my room mates got injured in the process. Mehn! Those were periods when Unionism was Unionism! No school like Ife

tpiadotcom:

obviously there was tension or something going on in the years leading up to 1999.

there is nothing unusual about walking anywhere on campus at anytime. The states of emergency some folks are describing, must have been in the immediate years before the killings.

Most OAU students would not know what some people here (who probably never attended the school) are talking about
Only a great Ife student will understand what you're trying to pass across sir. Imagine I alone trekking from chemical engineering to faj every midnight with my earpiece in ears without fear of any attack. May the soul of those who paid the price rest in perfect peace. Someday, Justice will take it full cause on the perpetrators of this evil event.

Hmmm.... My heart goes out to the families of the victims.

This is the reason why people who can afford it should defend themselves and own a gun . Nigeria is a country where if one dies, he dies for nothing. Justice is very expensive and rare! I have witnessed a lot of these cases where a man is killed or molested and the aggressor is left to roam free. If you have money you can buy the police and some few judges. Last year I was following a case of a young man in Lagos who robbed and raped two girls in the same family. He left the mother because she was menstruating. Fortunately they identified him and he was arrested. The Lagos police command was treating the case as a robbery case and was about to charge to court when the AIG took it over and was negotiating settlement with the family. The family was crying for justice!

Wale Omole is still powerful and in the corridors of power...he should be made to explain his role in the loss of innocent vibrant lives.

Though the war on cultism is being won in our universities it has spilled over to the outside and growing like cancer. The culpable people should be brought to justice

If we miss the opportunity of of another new regime to clean up this time, Nigeria is doomed forever and ever!

The way cultism is spreading is alarming..
Imagine second skul student now cultist.
U won't blv dat primary skul students ar now involve..
I just pray dat dz won't destroy our society
