We Should double up like China did. Even India is squaring up to hollywood these days when it comes to VFX.

Is frustrating at times but we should live on the edge if we must clutch at the clouds......

very soon I have resume my learning on character creation....I hope to be comfortable with it soon. one question, how do you model ur own character, box modeling or you sketch and model with plane. because when it comes to the head modeling it gives me a lot of prob, but am comfortable with the rest of the body even clothes.

@yinskey, I rarely box model, preferring to sculpt directly instead.... at the same time u can adopt BlueMagnificient`s method - Boxing out forms first before going into sculpting....

There are individuals - yours truly - who manipulating vertices x the hardest chore.
And no matter how much they run away from it, they still would face them when its time to do retopology...lol

I reference pics from the internet a lot too.....if I want to do a Snake for example, I would download pics of the creature and gaze mindlessly at them say ten mins before firing up Blender and doodle around....when u start out modelling stuff, don't have high hopes, don't expect your first tries to be as exact as the reference pic.....just allow your mind free rein...

And if u have tutorials arnd, don't hesitate to rewatch few clips while modelling...I can never rig without Tony Wards tuts.

sculpting can damage or system if u start out with high multi resolutions....always keep it simple while starting and build up.

Some say zbrush handles up to 4 million vertices while sculpting, but the first time I open their interface, I ran screaming for Mother. Buttons everywhere.....

But that should not deter You, if u can handle their interface, jump hook , line and sinker into it.

But you did Tony`s Puppy once, Right? Just rewatch the series, better still follow the making of Sintel`s face on Youtube

boss, please, one question...are you using a reference for this ?...'cos if you're not, i'll have to commend your visualization and imagination skills.

Actually there is no reference image I'm modeling from, what I did was to google up pics of beast and four legged animals from which I visualised shape and form to work on

i normally use Maya and Cinema4D but ive gone back to Blender ever since i abandoned my game project. i love the new Cycles engine which i use far more than the default rendering engine.

Cycles places Blender on par with the best.

I modeled the cup then used the Node Editor to design the cracks (see below), since im into compositing so im just getting to grips with the editor.

im seriously into Tracking and Compositing, so ive left modelling for the noobs. Cycles and the Node Editor are heaven sent!

attached are creating:

1. initial render

2. adding the cracks effects using the node editor

3. final render.

model not UV unwrapped (normal materials, not bitmap textures)
