Nigeria needs controlled borders and to somehow get to grip with formalizing citizenship. For the time being all newborn need to be registered. See, people are taking Nigeria and Nigerians for granted. Wasn't too long ago that a Cameroonian wondered on this same Niraland how he could get Nigerian passport and after many disparaging remarks inferring "who would want to be a Nigerian citizen anyway" another Cameroonian, under the noses of you Nigerians, advised his comrade that he should simply come over into Nigeria for no one cares, and that if he insists, why, he could jest get a passport anywhere no questions asked.

The relevance of all of this to the subject of maltreatment of Nigerians in Guinea and by inference throughout Africa is that there are millions of foreign Africans in Nigeria that go about in the safety of their anonymity. Nigerians ignorantly don't value Nigeria foreign Africans pretend they don't value Nigeria. If Nigeria had a form of identity for its citizens as rigorously enforced as those of European nations or South Africa these hopeless Africans from all over the place would think twice before assaulting Nigerians and broadcasting the fact with pride.

If Nigeria closed its borders today people in Niger and Chad would starve; if Nigeria expelled all foreign citizens of other African origin from Nigeria there would be unmitigated chaos throughout West and Central Africa.
