It is still practiced, even in this age and time....among a particular tribe.
Funny enough they will attach the safety pins and still be in the church for prayers or church service. So which one do they actually believe in?
BTT:

A pregnant woman must attach a pin to her clothing when going out in the afternoon to avoid birthing an Ogbanje...

Those and many more were formulated to avert danger. And for children or youths, fears have to be created before they really comply.

For example, "No 7" Eating in the dark could allow flies or dirt to enter the food unknowingly, which is not good for the health.

In Ireland we used to have a silly superstition SIMILAR to number 5.

But number six is common (with minor variations) in MANY countries.

Nigerians dismiss their superstitious beliefs but whole heartedly accept the superstitions of the Jews. I can't wrap my head around this.

I am from Ondo Town.

It is a bad omen for a dog to dig the ground here. I know of two dogs that were gotten rid of (probably eaten as Ondo's eat dog grin grin grin grin grin)

Apparently, the person who got rid of the dogs later felt regret.

It turns out dog dig the ground and then lie in it when they are hot. This is to enable them to cool down.

It also ominous also for a dog to howl grin. Now why do dogs howl? undecided

If someone touch your armpit, ask him to touch the other or else you get a boil on your armpit.

Similarly the superstition of it being 'bad luck' to walk under a ladder! There could be someone working up the ladder who drops something on your head, 'bad luck' indeed! wink

Superstition was the only way African parent could control their kids without the use of the rod... maybe if there was some sort off superstitious belief attached to corruption who knows this country could have been better off.

Most of this stuffs are just to instill discipline in us and also to caution us, a kid could get injured while trying to drink water from the coconut. Someone eating in the dark could mistakenly swallow those stubborn fish bones and flogging someone with broom doesn't look nice cuz definitely you will have to remove broken broom sticks from your skin after the whipping.. Spitting about aint hygienic at all and that "superstition" actually helped a lot. Bending over could send blood straight to the brain and you know what can happen after that.......
10 crates of orijin for u
