It seems you live in the U.S because the way you described it is the way we see kitchen tiles done here.. You think exactly just like me when it comes to wall tiles. I prefer backsplash to all wall tile as commonly done in Nigeria. I prefer my kitchen wall to be 85% free of tiles.

Why the tiles on the the kitchen wall if it will be completely cover with the cabinet? if at all there will be some space that will shows the tiles why not map out those space, do the cabinet first and then follow up with the tiles? I may be wrong, but I thing this will save a lot of money and some inches in kitchen space.

Anyway to answer Question from Oga Qc1. It is truly cheaper to Run it the way you have spoken, but the price difference isn't significant to the Total fee used for the Kitchen and also if tomorrow you wish to change the Cabinet and its layout, you can do it without having the challenge of making sure you follow the already existing layout pattern. You can change the design and Cabinet all in total.

As for comments from Oga @FastShipping I too Rather the Kitchens without Tiles or Kitchen with very few Tiled walls like the walls around the Cooker, but be aware of the Culture in Africa. Our kitchen exercises are heavier than that of the over seas. What they do in the Kitchen abroad is mainly just Microwave and other light cooking.Unlike our Soup making, Pounding, Washing Plate, washing leaves and others that Happen. When you have that, you'd rather clean tiles than Paint walls at all times.

But to round this all up. I am always with the school of thoughts that they way we like our house to look is the way it should always look, regardless of the location. So you are allowed to make your Kitchen look like that, as far as it suits your life style
