Don't know about now because the naira dropped recently, so cant really say whichbis stronger. But what I think the Ghanians did was just redominate their currency and removed 3 zeros from the old one. But the funny thing is that most Ghanians still call the value of the old one while using the new notes. E.g 100cedis (N10,000 equivalent or so) is still being called 1,000,000cedis by a large percentage of the populace today.

The best way to understand it is by looking at purchasing power.

How much is a bottle of coke, a tin of Milk, a packet of sugar, etc in Cedi and in Naira?
Then convert the figure in Cedi to Naira or vice versa.

@ frankmoney Generally speaking, when Country A's currency is worth more than that of Country B, it does not necessarily mean that Country A's economy is stronger than B's. For example, Japan's economy is regarded as one of the world's strongest, and yet a single Japanese yen exchanges for considerably less than US$1. On the other hand, Cyprus' economy is considerably smaller than the U.S. economy, but Cyprus' currency, which is the pound, exchanges for about twice as much as the U.S. dollar.

The fact of the matter is that looking at a currency's worth relative to that of another currency at a static point in time is meaningless; the best way to judge a currency's worth is to watch it in relation to other currencies over time. Supply and demand, inflation and other economic factors will cause changes to a currency's relative worth, and it is this change in value that can be used to evaluate worth.

A currency's purchasing power can also be used as an indicator of the relative worth of currencies. For example, if US$1 can be exchanged for XYZ$1, it would appear that the XYZ dollar is worth as much as the U.S. dollar. However, if the purchasing power of XYZ$1 is equal to only US$0.50, then you can conclude that the U.S. dollar is worth more than the XYZ dollar, because a single U.S. dollar can be used to buy more goods than a single XYZ dollar can.

Currency and economy are two different things. The fact that the pound is bigger then us dollars does not mean that the UK economy is bigger then the US. Therefore Ghana cedi may be bigger then Nigerian Naira and Japanese Yen but we both know that Japan and Nigeria economy is way bigger then Ghana's

This boy your ignorance stinks to high heaven. And the painful thing is that you came to expose it to millions of people. Does stronger currency mean a stronger economy?. Then it means that Ghana which you are obsessed with is stronger in economy than Italy. Do you even know what economy means? Economy of a country means it output yearly in Gross Domestic Product, not currency.

In any case:

GHANA

Ghana’s economy is expected to slow down for the fourth consecutive year to an estimated 3.9% growth rate in 2015, owing to a severe energy crisis, unsustainable domestic and external debt burdens, and deteriorated macroeconomic and financial imbalances. Provisional gross domestic product (GDP) figures issued by Ghana Statistical Services (GSS) further suggest that the economy expanded by 4.2% in 2014, less than the growth of 7.3% recorded in 2013. The drivers of growth continue to be the service sectors, which constitute 50.2% of the economy, followed by industry and agriculture at 28.4% and 19.9% respectively. In 2016 the economy is expected to recover, registering a growth of around 6%, bolstered by an increase in oil and gas production, private sector investment, improved public infrastructure and the country’s political stability. Nonetheless, the prevailing low international oil prices could slow the pace of economic growthin the future.

NIGERIA

The economy has enjoyed sustained economic growth for a decade, with annual real GDP increasing by around 7%; it was 6.3% in 2014. The non-oil sector has been the main driver of growth, with services contributing about 57%, while manufacturing and agriculture, respectively contributed about 9% and 21%. The economy is thus diversifying and is becoming more services-oriented, in particular through retail and wholesale trade, real estate, information and communication.

The Cedi was redenominated that is why it looks stronger but it is not. Ghana's economy cannot sustain a stronger cedi because it mostly depend on imports.

Indeed. Anyways, ghanian economy is in better shape and will continue to do so for a while. Although, Nigeria's bond is more attractive it has to be said.

You are a bit simplistic by declaring Nigeria's economy the winner due to an unverified gdp growth.
I have not been up to date with African countries economy, so I will look into it and get back at ya.

Please note that was for 2014.

There is nothing 2014 about your data obsolete .

Read this conclusion and compare it with what pasted earlier.

President JONATHAN has established an economic team that includes experienced and reputable members and has announced plans to increase transparency, diversify economic growth, and improve fiscal management. Lack of infrastructure and slow implementation of reforms are key impediments to growth. The government is working toward developing stronger public-private partnerships for roads, agriculture, and power. Nigeria's financial sector was hurt by the global financial and economic crises, but the Central Bank governor has taken measures to restructure and strengthen the sector to include imposing mandatory higher minimum capital requirements.

Alright, some few points.
1 Ghana is now listed as part of the HIPC shocked
2 The inflation of ghana is now at 16%
3 Growth forecast 3-4% similar to Nigeria.
4 Smallet size of economy compared to Nigeria.

Based off this, Nigeria definitely has a better economy. However, this is nothing to be proud of as we aren't looking that healthy either.

How we are 'looking' is not the issue, but the data.

It's human nature to compare and complain. The data doesn't care how we feel or look.
