Prevalent Moral Depravity And Bigotry In Nigeria (nairaland?) by omenka(m): 4:15pm On Jun 20, 2015
Good afternoon.

I write this with a very heavy heart, worried sick about the orientation of the average Nigerian youth and their knack for turning logic right on its head at every turn.

I stumbled on a thread, www.nairaland.com/2392653/buhari-declares-war-south-south-militants, a few moments ago which carried news about an ongoing military campaign against militants (terrorists) in some creeks in Cross Rivers state and was shocked to my marrows the kind of comments people who are supposedly Nigerians were making.

First, the publisher of the article poses a security threat to this country. What is the use of the inclusion of "South South" in the title of the article?? We all know the kind of divisive rhetoric flying around these days and making "war-on" and "South-South" stand together as done by the publisher would certainly stir up emotions from a particular people. If the publisher had intended to publish the article in good faith, why didn't he simply put "declare war on militants"?? When the fight against Boko Haram is being reported, do we see things like "Nigerian Army bombs North East Boko Haram"??

I never imagined we'd become so bigoted and morally debased in this country that we'd consider it inappropriate for the government to wage war against a group of militants and pirates "following their frequent attacks on vessels, police stations, seafarers including market women" simply because these criminals come from the same region as we do and perhaps share common ethnicity with us.

Have the posters criticising the government's action interacted with the pirates to know they come from the same backgrounds?? Couldn't the pirates be a mix of Nigerian and foreign nationals??

I just don't get it- on what grounds is attack on market women and police formations justifiable On what bases should reprieve be given such criminal elements by the state??

Some posters on that thread went "he (Mr President) has been dragging his feet on Boko Haram but was so quick to deploy the military to the Zone" and I ask - what planet were these people when Buhari took his FIRST official decision after he was sworn in which was to relocate the military Command and Control Centre to the epicentre of the war on terror to bolster the campaign against those murderers?? Who bears the brunt of the activities of Boko Haram?? Would it not be in the president's/Nigeria's interest politically, economically and otherwise, to see that Boko Haram is completely extinguished?? Wouldn't doing so require a very decisive military approach?? Isn't that the reason he's been trying to rally the troops within the country and those of all our neighbours to commit to this just course?? How is a military campaign against militants and criminals an act of war against the South South?? Are these guys saying South Southerners are all militants and criminals

Someone else went..
are the Millitants really disturbing, killing and molesting people more than the BOKO HARRAM ? OR is it a modern form of discrimination?
And guess what- 16 people had already "liked" the comment the last time I checked. Now tell me, do we have to fold our arms and watch them metamorphose into something as deadly as Boko Haram before action is taken?? Are we oblivious of the fact that government's sloppiness towards Boko Haram during it's infant stage is the reason we have an all out war on our hands today?? How does fighting criminals amount to "discrimination"

Then this comment took the idiocy to the summit of Everest!
ode how many bokoharam has he killed since he took over power? ans = 0 he cant kill his brothers
buh he wants to kill my brothers. why would he
declare War on a said group that is causing the
country no harm? if one militant dies then a civil
war would break out in this country and i carzola
would pick up arms and fight enough is enough.
I just can't imagine how one was able to rationalise something like this. It is simply appalling to say the least. Imagine after reading the opening post, this poster still went on to say- "the group is causing the country no harm!!! I bet his opinion would have been a lot different had his mom being one of the said market women or his dad one of the security officers who fell victim to the group's attacks.

How did we get here Where did we go wrong?? Is there any hope our so called youths are ever gonna break free from such jaundiced orientations?? Who are these people promoting this highly inflammable ideologies?? What exactly are their motives??

Are these highly regrettable nuances borne out of an innate hatred for the president or are they spontaneous opinions attributable to the event under scrutiny?? When did we become so obsessed with the notion "a stranger has no right to punish my brother even when he goes against our common laws"?? Do we have any idea who the next victim of these criminals we tend to try to insulate from persecution and prosecution simply because they are our tribesmen would be??

Is there any hope the yawning gap between logic and tomfoolery, as seen amongst us today, is ever gonna be bridged??

The citizens of this country are in dire need of re-orientation.

I weep for Nigeria and pray God have mercy upon us.

.Thank God that i am not the only one,who is deeply pained about this current development on nairaland.heat of the current e-tribal war, is now more intense than, that of pre march 28.We must allow our institutions ( security agencies inclusive) do their job, without any form of tribal, region or political hindrances. What i see is that, most supporters of GEJ are still very pained about the outcome of the last election. If this military operations were carried out against BH at it early stage of existence, we won't be spending huge money fighting them now.

What is wrong with you self?I blame seun and the moderators who still allow you to comment on nairaland. If you were pmb what will do in this present scenario? You will sit down and allow another terrorist group spring up in the Niger delta area?I watched on AIT news this afternoon the level of damage, these pirates did to the marine police station, it was terrible.Let's stop this tribal bigotry.Bigotry breeds ignorance and illiteracy. The other time, some of you here were shouting here that i will PMB propose a nuclear site in ITU(akwa ibom)not knowing to you guys that it was your brother(GEJ)that actually approved it.

Oremussanctus, BH has been there for years in Sambisa and your brother did nothing. It would surprise you to know that many believed that your brother just allowed Boko to pester and grow because it's not his region that they're operating. If that's what you want, good luck. But I as a supporter of Buhari wouldn't want, in years to come, the accusations being labelled against GEJ to befall Buhari.

When you have a current president who said a ''war against bokoharam is a war against the north'' and still got elected even in the face of such horrific statement, then you know the bigotry is total and widespread spreading even to the presidency.
When you have a mad king asking for an ethnic group to be drowned due to their different political orientation, then you know you have a serious situation on your hands.
When you have people supporting the mad king both online and offline, then you realize the situation is irredeemable and it is only a matter of time before it goes bust.

These set of people are just blind and dumb to see the steps buhari took against terrorism after he was sworn in. These set of people are just against his administration (which they can't do nothing about). I see know reason why we should hate because the person isn't from your tribe. Nigeria is becoming so annoying when I read comments from her citizens here on this forum.

I make comments here daily and I have never for once abuse any tribe or abuse the out gone president. this set of people making this comment are just underage people who can't stand challenges physically. Only an insane person will pray for war in this nation, no matter how tough the situation of this country, God is in control.
If anybody wants to fight for his/her right, they should go to aso rock and make their demands, not just rants on social forum.
Gej lose the election doesn't mean Nigeria will be bloody because your brother is out of power "soldier go soldier come barracks remain the same" anybody that doesn't want 'peace' for this nation will not know peace

The war as it was then waged is believed not only by Buhari to be anti-North but by all of us northerners. A town called Gamboru, with an international market had the market totally destroyed without the Nigerian government doing anything.
