I can provide pictures of aa Gripen carrying the Meteor missile!

Your pictures don't prove anything!

SAAF will buy BVRAAM soon!

Your Junk fighter will be eaten any day by the Gripen carrying 5th Generation missiles!

Show us Meteor in service with an air force.

SAAF has no cash for BRVAAM.....you went low from 25km IRIS-T to a shorter range missile.....one big step backwards....fools !

You mean your A-Darter 19 km range short legged missile that only works when Gripen has entered enemy jet's NO ESCAPE ZONE ? grin

What about future user such as Brazil. Canada has shown interests and hopefully India will buy it.

Tell us about your Junk Fighter.

Brazil buying only Gripen NG, not the old school radar Gripen of SAAF.

Canada still evaluating F-35 and F-18 Super Hornet.

India is buying Rafale.

Next Gripen customer will likely be Mexcio buying up the 12 SAAF Gripen jets from storage where South Africa has no money to maintain them.

The JF-17 carries a far more powerful punch than Gripen.

Hypersonic SAM missiles, PL-12 AAM, Nuclear missiles......makes the JF-17 superior punching power, LOL....Pakistan will nuke South Africa o!

Air to air missiles: The Gripen carries superior weapons!

Air to ground: The Gripen carries superior weapons.

Radar can be upgraded, not much to it, in fact our Gripens under go software updates regularly.

Secondly don't be surprised if SAAF upgrades its Gripen fleet to e/f standard in the future thanks to the much larger budget it will receives thanks to the Defence Review.

I doubt they'll be upgraded to the E/F standard.

Maybe some "South Africa standard".

Im not saying we are going to upgrade them within the next 5-10 years, but eventually they will have to be upgraded.

And yes they will be upgraded with a lot of South African software, but hardware upgrades will also have to be made, and that's something we cant do entirely by ourselves.

So yes maybe will see a South Africanised Gripen e/d, just like we have South Africanised Gripen C/Ds at the moment.

That will be awesome! Wonder what SAAF will do if Denel finishes developing an Air to Air version of the Marlin missile.
It will be interesting to see how the Meteor and Marlin stack up against each other!

Development will be long, Brazil has indicated willingness to join the programme.

The Meteor is quite capable! Unless Denel is planning on using ram-jet powered engines like in the LRAAM.

The T-Darter BVRAAM would've been a missile equally capable as the Meteor if not better.

We'll only see when the project starts to take shape, on whether they want a highly capable BVRAAM in the class of Meteor or a fairly good missile with lots of variants.

Nope its much much much better.

Faster
more manoeuvrable
better climb rate
better HMI
better HMD
more Hard Points
higher Payload.
better Radar
Lower Stall speed
Shorter Landing Distance

Definitely more than 10% better mate!!

1 Hard point more

F-35 a 5th Generation fighter also runs on C++
Better HMD
There is nothing like a better HMD, HMDs can be integrated in the JF-17. I hope you remember the term open architecture.

far Better combat range

all fighters have shorter landing distance with a drag chute.

You mor0n, the JF-17 is designed to be cost effective, that's one of it's selling points.

You pathetic barber, the DSI on the JF-17 gives it a low RCS.

8 - 8.5, quite insignificant really.

JF-17 has a low wing loading, hence it can perform that incredible vertical take off manoeuvre.

Thrust difference between the JF-17 and the Gripen is virtually insignificant. The Thunder also has the advantage of providing 10% more thrust

The JF-17 has a better combat altitude.

The JF-17 has a better look down radar

The JF-17 has an advanced HMI dummy
Ect

Why are you thinking like a potato farmer in a military thread?

Again I ask, why did Pretoria buy JF-17 thunders at $ 68 million a unit?

Fact is: 260 Gripen in the sky

Fact is: No one wants to buy the "$25 million Gripen"

Brazil would operate the Gripen NG.

The other countries you mentioned barely operate the type, and it's the Czech republic, not that cold war gibberish you are spewing.

Hungary lost 2 Gripens in one month, dummy.

Most of(80%) those Gripens are operated by Sweden and South-Africa fool.

In the same vein, Pakistan 250 units, Sri-lanka/ Burma 18-24 examples.

Fool, we know tit bits of what the Block 2 will carry, but full specs aren't yet out.

For example : the JF-17 block 2 has a speed of Mach 2, it would come with an air re-fuelling probe, improved oxygen, counter-measures, Avionics and Radar. However it's full specifications isn't yet available.

The Block 2 performed at the Paris air show 15.

Show us how you came to this "10%" figure

If you actually understood English, you wouldn't really be asking me this question.

-Radar difference is 10km in favour of the Gripen, just slightly better than the JF-17 block 1.

- JF-17 block 1 has a range of 1350 KM, much much better than the Gripen

- speed Mach 1.8 to Mach 2 in favour of the Gripen C/D

- the JF-17 has a better radar down look detection.

- the JF-17 can carry nuclear missiles, the Gripen cannot.

- the JF-17 has 7 harpoints to the 8 on the Gripen

- the JF-17 is way more manoeuvrable than the Gripen

- the Gripen has a slightly better thrust than the JF-17.

- the G limit is 8 to 8.5 in favour of the Gripen.

If these specifications do not represent an Aircraft that is just as good as the Gripen, and provide the bang-for-the-buck, then your mental limitations not mine.

Aircrafts cost

Gripen: $68 million a unit

JF-17 : $25- 30 million a unit.

1. It doesn't matter if the F 35 uses the same Software, its still better than that of the JF-17
2.The cobra HMD is NOT integrated on the Junk fighter, thus your opinion is irrelevent.
3. Combat radius is irrelevant if you have air-air refueling capability.
4. The Gripen has a way lower wing loading than the JF-17, go look it up
5. The gripen has the lowest maintenance cost of any fighter on the market, even lower than the JF
6. The Gripen has a RCS of 0.1m2 and the Jf-17 has a RCS of 2,5m2
7. It doesn't matter if it has a chute or not, it still has a shorter landing distance
8. The gripen has a Max g of 9 and not 8.5 , either way it makes a huge difference if you have a plane that weighs 12 tons when fully loaded, thus just 1 g means the gripen airframe can withstand 12 tons force more than the jf-17.
9. SAAF Gripens have one of thee most advanced HMI systems in the world.

1. The PS-05/a MK4 can detect a 0,1m2 target at 120kms, the KLJ-7 can only detect a 3m2 object at 110km: Winner Gripen, No contest
2. JF-17 doesn't have a air to air refuelling capability: Winner Gripen
3. Gripen is faster as you rightly pointed out: Winner Gripen
4. You have no proof for the Gripens look down Radar: Winner N/A
5. Carrying a Nuclear warhead is basically the same as carrying a normal warhead: Winner: Tie
6. Gripen has a much lower Wing Loading, Lower Stall Speed, Better AoA thus way way more manoeuvrable: Winner Gripen, No contest
7.Gripen has 1 more hard point as you rightly pointed out: Winner Gripen
8.Gripen has better thrust to weight as you pointed out: Winner Gripen.
9.Gripen has a max G of 9, thus has a massive impact on what forces the airframe can withstand: Winner Gripen, No contest.

These are the reasons why the Gripen costs $68 million, which is still a bargain!

Actually the rcs of a F22 is 0,00018m2 and the F35 has a rcs of about 0,0014m2, thus the Gripen is not nearly as stealthy as a dedicated stealth aircraft, although it has the smallest rcs of any non stealth fighter.
