Antoinne,

You keep saying people that take out food are hungry. SO?
Since when is it a sin to be hungry? Since when is it "uncultured" to be hungry?

So I took food out of a plane because I could not afford to buy one where I'm heading. So freaking what? Is it a crime to be poor?

You point at other people's struggles and ridicule it, not because they hurt someone but because they are trying to feed? I honestly think that a mentality like yours is true poverty.

Poverty is no excuse for lack of refinement. Dignity, dignity please.

You said in many of your posts that people taking put food are hungry. Right? People taking out food don't have money to buy food. Abi?
So I'm too poor to buy food and I take out food I was given, that belongs to me, to eat later.
How is that not dignified? Would you rather I go and steal? Would you rather I come and beg you?

I know your type. The ones who get called aside by security and have to entertain a barrage of questions on all sorts of weird and unsavory combos they carry on their luggage from Nigeria. It's all in the thinking. Unsurprising.
Stop exposing yourself. Why would I be scared of being called aside and questioned by security if I am not scared and have nothing to hide? Security calls me aside, asks me questions or at worst tells me to open my bag. I do, he/she does the necessary checks or asks a few questions and he/she sends me on my way. Is that rocket science? Why should I be scared of getting checked by the security in the first place when I'm not illegal, a fugitive or trafficking drugs? Lmao. I guess that is the small price I have to pay for carrying my food.

While I was also at it, I never pretended to be what I was not, neither did try to be more American than the Americans. Unlike you. I am Nigerian and I will damn right do what is comfortable to me. FYI: I have been called to secondary check on an international route before and I gladly went. I know I had nothing to hide and at most they just wanted to ask questions. Which btw, will be asked with utmost respect.

And did you read the part when I said we informed the guys at security that we had cooked food and they let us through? You,re not so bright, are you? You are trying way too hard, sweetheart. On so many levels. And guess what? EPIC FAIL. Can't fool me or anybody else for the records.

First of all the food/snack is paid for please don't get it twisted. You get biscuits, a bun and a child sized drink in the pack cuz you r in economy, in the business class section you get more cuz you paid more.

Aero started selling food inflight when they were doing their 5k promo.

I had a very nasty experience after snacking on one dawn flight to abuja. I was going for a meeting so I had coffee on-board, it was a huge mistake. My tummy ran all thru the day, I could barely sit for a minute during the meeting. Was a crucial opportunity dat I lost due to in-flight snacking so since then I simply snack at the airport prior to the flight.

No, you didn't really pay for it. At some point, Aero never used to serve food on airplanes and people still flew. This food is complimentary and not paid for.

Why not 'munch' it in the plane? Are you not 'settled in' in the plane? Or you feel people are watching you?

Cultured people don't take food out of airplane. Don't get influenced by the habit of taking food away from a party. It simply doesn't speak well of you. If anything, it suggests that you are too hungry and can't afford a meal whenever you want one.
They actually pack the chow so you can take it away. All these yarns are only your ideals. They prolly think the chow will waste if they dont share it. You can take your food off the plane, nobody die.

U gorrit. I wonder how I will look like after stepping out at JFK with a collapsible plate of smelly veggies , ketch up and cream. cheesy angry
Most comments are virtually based on flying local in Nig .

I don't care if people carry food but i have never done it. All I am even talking bout is the health aspect of it because it gets sour so fast,

Snack are still better but taking cooked food is a NO No

Firstly, it's just so well in the habit of wasteful people to overplan and have excess food at parties. Next time, try to plan more appropriately.
Having said that, excess food at parties should be processed and served to dogs, fishes and other animals. They'd thank you for doing that. Why in the world would you want to 'pack' food for guests to take home? Don't they survive already without your food?

That it's in the take-away pack shouldn't encourage taking it away. That's uncultured. Would you take away food from KLM or Turkish airlines planes? I guess you wouldn't. And not because they don't serve in take-away packs, but merely because they don't encourage it. Would you then, for the desire to compulsorily take something away, enter a KLM flight with your personal cooler and then take away their airplane food? Of course not!

So, please, eat in the aircraft or trash it. If you don't feel hungry there and then, politely decline the food, request water and eat a comfortable dish at the hotel.
you're talking nyanyanmpu..people sometimes decide not to eat in the air plane cos of d fear of throwing up n feeling nauseous....whether them carry the food or not..its a thing of choice and has absolutely nothing to do with being cultured or not..theres a reason why the food is neatly packed in a take away,so those dt want to leave with theirs can do so...so you're actually the unexposed, uncultured one here boring your life with some sick protocols that nobody gets to notice..it actually takes lots of discipline not to tear up dt pack and munch on the contents ryt there in d plane...as for me...I move my pack of snacks as I leave the plane, who wan look me when everyone is doing same aside some hungry ones like.....

And non-Nigerians don't do it? You're not very exposed, are you?

Antoinne:

I understand I can't force my opinions on others. It just baffles me why people (especially Nigerians) should do this. It makes me ask if there's something wrong with the Nigerian psyche, hence the thread.
Most of all, it really amazes me that the generality of Nigerians believe this a 'normal' situation. Not one response in support! Smh.

It doesn’t mean you are uncultured people, if you are taking food from plane! At that time may not feel hungry,(let the situation be like this) and after getting from a rest room you will feel hungry and some people will feel shy even though they can get. You have paid for it and taking away from the plane you are not going to waste it. Child or your self going to eat it then there is no wrong in that! Until you search for a restaurant, order then to arrive? Taking food from plane.

Sorry, what are you saying? You think ANY airline would serve "free" food?
My dear, it is soooo paid for.
Are you paying the same flight ticket fare you paid 2, 5, 10 yrs ago that would make you think they aren't including it in today's cost? Do you even think "freebies" is sustainable over a long period for any type of business? Airlines also have thin margins after their huge cost of sales. So nothing is free dear.
Don't get it twisted.

I'd like to start by asking what you find wrong with that. The food has been given to u... Probably cake and juice. If u don't feel like taking it for example u ate before boarding, what's wrong with taking it away? And why do u think the food hadn't been paid for?
Re: Taking Food Out Of Airplanes by ifekemmie(f): 3:51pm On Jun 26, 2015
This shows how uncultured you are. People take food away from parties all the time. After a party the host packs food for guests to take home so the food doesn't waste. I always give my guests when I have excess. I take away my snacks from the plane after all it's a "take away" pack. Get it?

God bless u jare

Antoinne you are absolutely right it is unfathomable and flat out ludicrous. The reason why you get so much hormonal retorts for speaking the truth is because this site "nairaland'' is populated by a certain demographic of 'youthful’ Nigerians who have very limited and (i am afraid) rather crude outlook to life. Logic and reason are not very common themes down here. Most are youths out of school seeking jobs, you wouldn’t find sound wisdom here, just the really rough and raw bunch.

There is even a more dire case of this 'food theft syndrome" (FTS) in the corporate world. I am talking fortune 500 status multinational companies here in Nigeria. These guys drive in the latest SUVS using high tech smart gadgets and all, but still get tragically obsessed with packing out remnants of meeting meals.

I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME UNDERSTAND THIS FCKN DISEASE!!! Is it greed or what?

These guys all earn six digit monthly salaries but always feel compelled to hang around the corridor, lurking and checking to see if the management meeting has ended so that they can briskly grasp onto the unwrapped moin-moin, rice, sweets , slap them all in a bag and take home.

Perhaps it is the corruption gene in its infancy? What say you?
