Its not about empty promises and building universities when the ones existing are dilapidated, underfunded and always on strike! There is no nigerian university in the top 100 upon all the monies pumped and wasted in building new universities.
The building of those universities was nothing but an avenue to siphon money! Simple!

The resuscitation of the erstwhile moribound refineries was in progress before Buhari was sworn in as President.

The quoted piece was the situation of the refineries as at the 2nd of May, 2013

www.vanguardngr.com/2013/05/nigerias-refineries-now-producing-10m-litresday-of-fuel-nnpc/
As you rightly posited, nothing much is wrong with the refineries, what seem to have improved since Buhari came on board was the reduction in pipelines vandalism, and to a large extent, crude oil theft ...

Let us all calm down and understand the basics...

1). The refineries were never bad, they just needed maintenance... just lyk u hav a generator and u NEED to service it periodically

2). Although i am tempted to say GEJ had a hand in the refineries being used as a political tool, we should fault Madueke and all d depts in NNPC for not tellin the truth... it is safe to say that they saw the venture as a cheap way of making quick money for themselves and to sponsor PDP

3). GEJ's loss at the poll reset all of them their brains. The Otuoke doctor already negotiated his own deal thru Gen. Abdusalam and chief Anyaoku. Others had to start doing the right thing for the fear of the "Integrity" president coming in.

4). It is fair enough for buhari to say he is not to be credited for the refineries' increased productivity, the workers just went back to work... nothing ever happened.

So there's no need for gej or buhari's fans to stake the claim of the turnaround to their masters, rather we should thank OUR VOTES.

A BETTER NIGERIA BECKONS...

Some people react to issues just like a boy or girl deeply in love and the love clashes. Whatever good either of the party did is now regarded as bad and both tried very hard to run down the other if you care to listen. Let's not behave like children or those lovers cited above.

Nothing was wrong with it. PDP held it down and used it as a means of looting. Buhari's coming has removed the claws of the witches and wizards holding the refineries down.
you have forgotten that these refineries were not working at but GEJ made them to work though not full capacity. They have always worked under GEJ. He wanted to do a special TAM by those who built them but their terms weren't ok. They had to resort to inhouse. Is it buhari that did that. Get it that they were working but below 50%. If it is the fear of Buhari why can that fear help the fuel situation? And the security and pipeline break. Gmb has nothing for him. Let him work first. Here is another side tk the story.

The refineries did not need much to be fixed but people were making so much from the subsidy and importing of fuel that they preferred that the refineries not working
Now that's a better explanation!

But Do you know that even Presidents as glorified as they are are powerless against some forces emanating from some quarters of the polity? Okay GEJ wasn't stout enough as do military men but how can one fight the likes of Adenuga, Danjuma, OBJ, IBB, E.t.c? which I believe ALL have stakes in Nigerias Petroleum sector and It's Woes. Would you agree with me that this men ARE ABOVE THE LAW IN NIGERIA?? EVEN BUHARI CAN'T TOUCH THEM.... I know that yes the refineries are now working because The cabal too have got reservations about whom they are dealing with now. But when their pockets start drying up, That's when sabotage comes in! And the worst is these guys often play neutral! As in lil or no party affiliation!

That's cause he isn't a liar. It's obvious those refineries have always been in good condition but past administration decided to hide under the 'not working' condition to siphon money into their pockets. So it was probably GEJ was deceived all along or he was part of it. (How would they promise us around March that refineries would start working next year at almost full capacity when re-elected. How come they have started working now before the end of this year immediately Buhari came in. Pleaseeeee. #Think

I just weak like fried dodo ontop this matter.

Let's even assume that GEJ did nothing about the refineries, and by nothing, I mean....absolutely nothing.

The TAM of the refineries cannot be attributed to Buhari either, so why the fuss?

Y'all should be more concerned about the magic he will perform in one month in order to fill his 100th day score card.

Do you need any professor or soothsayer to answer this simple question? The answer is obvious and already answered by the OP and others who have commented. Let me help you again.

THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE REFINERIES. DIEZANI AND CO KEPT DECEIVING NIGERIANS (NOT GEJ) SO THEY CAN CONTINUE WITH THEIR FRAUD.

The thunder that will fire Diezani, GEJ and co is still doing press up with General Burantashi in Maiduguri.

Meanwhile, let me be waiting for my friend, barcanista who is already in the studio producing the normal useless wailing rejoinder to these incontrovertible facts that my 9 months old sweet baby girl know of.

Guy Like it or not, Barcanista is a good researcher!

Look, an APC supporter just published an anti-GEJ thread but hardly see insults to his person! Most arguments are issue-based!

Thanks Maxymillano.

Yes, President Buhari cannot take credit for the refineries that are working now because there is nothing wrong with our refineries. Bad governance from GEJ administration prevented the refineries from producing by denying the refineries crude oil to refine.

As at January this year 2015, a friend of my working in Warri refinery told me that the crude that should be a located to the refinery till June 2015 had been sold out. So, there is nothing for them to refine till after the month of June 2015.

True but can we say the last administration fixed them?

Now that will be the question. Show evidence that the GEJ government fixed the refineries, show us the contracts awarded to fix the refineries, how much was paid and when the contracts were made.

Remember they said the refineries wont work until first quarter 2016. This is not even last quarter 2015.

Personally, I doubt anything major was wrong with the refineries in the first place with these news. It was just more profitable to some people to import fuel than for the refineries to be functioning

If present administration say no be dem do am, and u say no be the last admin do am, maybe we go just conclude say na obasanjo kuku do am na

OP you should have asked yourself the major project the SURE-P was meant for......update your knowledge OP before your go public on such an important issue

When you are the president, you cannot give the excuse that you have people against you. As unflattering as this is, it is an admission of incompetence.

The issue of the refineries is beyond trade, we can call it a factor of National security.

There can be no denial that under President Jonathan, there was massive corruption. Corruption here being knowing the right thing and refusing to do it because it favors your friends while the nation suffers and remain stagnant.

These four points settles this issue. The refineries were never as bad as the past administration said, it was just a matter of them getting more money for their cronies through importation and subsidy so they will rather they don't work.

There is another angle that most Nigerians have not explored which relates to the machinations by NNPC to stop the privatisation of refineries. A simple question has not been asked: when it is said that the refineries have been fixed, what does that actually mean in output terms?

You have 4 refineries with installed capacity to refine 450 thousand barrels of crude oil per day. If the refineries have been fixed, have we now stopped or reduced to any significant degree our importation of fuel? If we have not, then this is all smoke and mirrors. You have to remember that the refineries operating anywhere near full capacity would meet most of our domestic fuel consumption. If there is no significant drop in fuel imports, then one has to question to what extent have the refineries been fixed at all. You have to remember that output ebbs and flow and if all we are getting is a slight uptick in output, then nothing significant has actually been accomplished. Claims that the refineries are working again from NNPC are a dime a dozen. See as follows:

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Thursday, announced an improvement in Nigeria’s refining capacity, declaring that domestic refining of Premium Motor Spirits, PMS, at the country’s three refineries has increased to 10.23 million litres per day.

According to Group Executive Director, Refining and Petrochemicals, NNPC, Engineer Anthony Ogbuigwe, the three refineries are also currently producing 5.53 million litres of dual purpose kerosene and 8.016 million litres of automotive gas oil, diesel daily.

He disclosed that the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company is currently running at 65 percent installed capacity, while the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company is producing at 63 per cent and the Port Harcourt Refining and Petrochemical Company at 66 per cent of installed capacity.

[/url]

The reality is that any claims that the refineries have been fixed should taken with a pinch of salt until one starts to feel the impact in the real world.
