Pls someone should verify this statement, Mr Robonski said that he spent roughly 650,000 on feeding 4000 fiishes, that means to feed 10,000 should be roughly estimated at 1.7mills. We are all learning here, thanks.
u need to know that prices of feeds have gone up now.

This was in 2009, the price of fish feed has gone up.. we now estimate #250-#300 per fish to maturity.

I am doing great my brother. There are different kind of local feed formula. Everything depends on one's pocket. Some farmers introduce maize, koko garri, broiler finisher, pkc etc in their local feed finisher. I mainly use little maize with enough biscuit in my finisher. Making 100kg, it can be fm 10, ts 15 gnc 15 maize 10 biscuit 30 flour 20 premix 0.5 salt 2 vitc 100g dcp 1 molasis 10

Infact, this is the major problem we are facing now. Cost of feeds have risen enormously, other operational costs are almost unbearable and fast growing fingerlings are rare to come by this days but the prices of fish remains almost static and unencouraging cry

I think the prices of fish depends on your location and bargaining power. I still sold a friends fish last week @600 naira per kilo.

Yeah i totally agree. Location matters alot. Just like when fish used to be N600 in PH and Abuja and it was N450 in Lagos sometime back.
In Lagos the fishes have to be really massive before u can even get them to buy at N550. Were those fishes u sold very big and was it bulk sales to market women?

Exactly, i keep on saying it that we don't have a voice, we are unorganized presently, that is why there is no corresponding increase in the price of fish.. More so we dont have enough standard hatcheries where we can source for quality fingerlings/juvenile which is also a problem.

They very big ones #17,250 per basin and each basin contains 25kg Dats like 690 per kg.

Apart from the location there are other factors affecting price of fish. Cost of production in lagos is relatively low as compared to those outside lagos. Secondly there are lots of fish farmers in lagos as compared to fish farmers in d south east, north central and north as a whole, demands will be high since there just few farmers. Imagine someone selling over 500kg of fish daily and from a single farm in Ibadan.

Very impressive sir. I will like to chat with you on whatsapp to learn more. My whatsapp numb : 08023000802

#as u rightly said, the demand and supply curve in lagos doesnt favour we farmers here and hence the price is not competitive. Most farmers av to sell below N500 per kilo in lagos if the fishes are not big.

Glad to hear that you are doing great. I really appreciate your selfless contribution here on this thread and God will reward you according including others numerous to mention. Pls, I will like you to explain the function of molasis. Also, there was this formula 2 you dropped here which contains broilers starter, I will like to know the essence of broilers starter in the formula and why the FM is local 20kg in 200kg?

Amen. Thanks for the prayers. Well appreciated. Molasis looks more or less like honey. It is used to bind all the ingredient together when making local feeds. The formula given earlier that includes broiler starter is not formula 2 in fact it is the last formula to use if you are rearing your fish for 6months. Thus, you applied when they are 4 month old. If you are rearing them for 4months, you can apply when they clock 3 months. Everything boil down to wisdom in applying formula because local feed formula varies from one farm to another. It is however subject to change at all times. The essence of broiler starter or finisher is to boost the weight of the fish. Nothing more nothing less.

Get the following items, Salt (depending on how big your pond is) you can get 15KG, Oxy; just 800 naira worth, and a lot of wood ash from any bakery. Drain the water in the pond. Mix the three stuff together and apply in the pond. Leave them for 48 hours.

Are they eating local feed formula or floating feeds? Your response will determine how to apply drugs inside their feeds.

Sir, they are eating floating(Durante feed)
The infection is just on few, I have seen like two but I only succeeded in removing one out of the pond.

It may spread if care is not taken. Mix procaine, vitc and dcp with their feed. Put the drugs inside little water and sprinkle it in the feeds and spread inside sun to get dry and feed them after treating them

Thanks for the prompt response. I really appreciate. Pls, I ve some questions to ask you. I'm using the formula that contains broiler starter and I started when they were 4months plus. They would be 5months next week but they hardly eat now.The weight of the feed is no doubt impressive as one can also feel it when carrying it.Can one use the formulated broiler starter or buy the ready made? The FM in it is local and 20kg in 200kg, is the quality not low as said by my miller?which formula can one use to gain massive body weight? I use concrete pond and change water before or as at when due.
Re: Hidden Truths About Catfish Business!!! by Teepompey: 11:42am On Aug 04, 2015
The length of the fish(dutch) is impressive but I expected more body weight than what I have. Some of them are 900g, 1kg, 1.1kg. I just wish they could add weight to their present length, wow! it would have been so amazing.
Pardon me, I was referring to fatness when I said weight.

I am grateful Sir, please I know that you people are trying a lot on this thread and so many other people are learning from this now, what is the quantity and I would like to know if they are normal procaine, vitc and please don't be annoyed what is dcp? Where can I get them all.
How long shall I give them this medication.
Thank you and God bless you.

The length does not really matter in catfish business, what matter most is the weight. A fish that eat regularly (balance diet) weather the feed has maize or not will have weight. Too much maize/koko garri may reduce the amount of feeds they eat. Much a times, they eat the feed and go to the bottom of the water to vomit it thereby polluting the water. Just ensure they eat well and you give them the right local feed formula. In this part of the world that I am, 1.1KG is a small fish.
