mmm.....johny you and your long speeches cheesy

choosing a part of the bible to adhere to, doesn't it make one some sort of a hypocrite, choosing what only suits them? is it right?
Lol... Simply put, if you believe some part of a scripture or any holy book and disbelieve others, then it's not really that holy book you believe but yourself..

agnostic christian? mmmm.....maybe i would go and read up on this stuff.
it just means.. "I am not sure if any of that stuff is true but am a christian anyway" thats just the simple way to explain agnostic christian or in a broader sense "agnostic theism"

at bold....contrary to your opinion i m actually afraid of going father than this, maybe sitting on the fence would seem better....not sure yet. Sometimes i get headache thinking about this stuff sef.
Nothing in life is to be feared only understood, now is the time to understand more so we can fear less..

There is nothing wrong in allowing your reason carry it's cause, it doesn't necessarily mean you will end up being an atheist but at least you will have control of what you think you believe.

Let the questions play out, there is absolutely nothing to fear and the fear of a thought is the fear of one's self. . . . So do not be afraid of yourself, do not fear any question. There is much in life that needs to be learnt and seen..

whatever comes from him? including discriminating against women, people of a different sexual orientation, race, genocide? etc

so if God tells you to kill, would you? dont say God cant tell you to kill because it is in the bible. so i have to believe in his words to prove i love him? do you have to believe in what your friends do to prove that you love them?

isnt God love? if God is love then why is there a need to love his word again?

I used ur parents as an example to try n differentiate btw luv towards man n luv towards God.

One question I'd like to ask is, do u see the message in the Bible as good or evil?

Point of correction: God cannot tell u to kill. U refer to the old testament of d Bible when God pronounces instant judgment on sinners.
And u seem to hv forgotten thr was always war btw Israel n other nations who serve other gods just like we hv Today.

While the Israelites cry to God n wait on His command, d other nations cry to their idols. It's usually a show of power. And when God command d Israelites to go destroy the enemy, u wanna say He is wicked? Have u come across any part in the New Testament where God said kill n destroy? No. U know y? Cos Jesus has laid His life, so u n I have grace now. All u hv to do is accept Christ as ur Lord n personal saviour n be baptized. Everyone got to be judged at the end.

God doesn't discriminate against women, Jesus came thru Mary, she was blessed amongst women rmb. Rmb Esther, Deborah, Ruth etc r they not women. The fact God didn't lay much emphasis on women in the Bible doesn't mean He discriminates.

From the very beginning God made man n gave him dominion over the earth. But He realized man needed a helper then He created woman. The Bible have always recognized women in d Bible as helpers, supporters, even after the ascension of Jesus, the Bible made reference to women how dey supported the ministries, the roles they were playing.

Now regards ppl with different sex orientation, God does not recognize same sex relationship n all dat, however God gave us two specific commandments with which u can never b an enemy of God; Love God, and Love ur neighbour as urself.

So d fact d Bible doesn't support LGBT, God expect u to show love to everyone irrespective of who dey r.

It's all in the Bible, the only way u can help ppl n bring them to God, is by showing dem love, n letting them partake in the love of Christ.

U can't change them, live that to God, He ll handle it.

I have one question for u.

Why do u love God?

I had an argument with a friend of mine, he keep calling me an athiest because I said the bible is inaccurate and I can't leave my life based on a book with so many errors and contradictions.

I don't believe in all this supernatural stuffs either, like witches and wizards, demons etc or some silly doctorines we have in the bible like women being submissive and a divorcee not allowed to get married etc

I just believe in one thing: love!

I totally agree with you cos I am in your shoes..most christians see those who ask questions as being pushed by the devil instead of opening their minds to see and possibly find reasonable answers...I remember a friend of mine warning me seriously to stop asking questions and believe what ever I see in the bible...asking questions doesn't make you less a human instead it tells you desire conviction and knowledge of Truth in its pure form.

yes i have given my life to Christ, like i said i don't believe in the bible anymore like i used to. i find that part of the bible questionable.

so what is your view now?

btw avoid that troll abeg and am female not male.

Okay. Good to know your gender. Also good to know that you've given your life to Christ. This is the most important step to take in life.

Yes, you're a Christian if you've done that. You're a child of God, His beloved and precious daughter. God understands you more than you know yourself and He understands your doubts about His Word.

Doubting His Word is normal. It is not a crime. In fact, it is God's grace upon you to grow in Him. He will help you all of the way to bring you to the point of total trust and obedience in Him.

Having said this, I need to tell you something about the Word of God. Since the time of Jesus Christ to the present and even beyond, anyone who kills his fellow man saying Jesus or God told him to do it is a very great liar and murderer. Even hating someone is tantamount to murdering that person in the eyes of God.

The God of judgment in the old testament is the still the same God of mercy in the new testament. There are no contradictions. But for the sacrifice of Christ we would still be living in the time of the judgment of God. So this is what happened, Christ took upon Himself God's judgment on sinful mankind. This act of Christ brought grace on mankind.

Jesus stands between God's judgment and grace. God did not change. He hasn't. He is still the same. Remember, this world is reserved for judgment, but until then, His grace through the finished work Christ on the cross must run its course to separate the elect, the true Israelites from the rest of the world. In the end, God and the saints will return to fight the last battle of the earth, battle as in the days of the old testament but much worse, with much bloodshed and death as never before happened. This battle will close the chapter of the fall of man and usher in the new age of Christ's reign with His saints. This has been God's plan all along.

U are expected to ask questions. The Corinthian or so was reading the Bible but he never understood wat he was reading, God knew dat, so He sent Peter (am not sure if it's Peter) to go help him out. He met the man, explained things to him, he gave his life to Christ n was baptized immediately.

The Bible can only b understood if read in the spirit. By dis I mean, the holy spirit intervention gives u an interpretation of whatever u read. Sometimes u hv a challenge, d holy spirit will lead u to a passage in d Bible dat speaks specifically on that challenge. U ll b so surprised hw it works.

But when u read d Bible like just every other novel, u will never understand a thing, it only becomes just another Bible story.

But whatever the case, if u dnt understand a thing, or u get confused about smtn, u hv a right to ask questions to clarify. Cos at d end ur only running ur own personal race.

It beckons on anyone willing to use their brains that religion divides and replaces love for fellow human beings with hatred...so unbelievers are either called fools and other obscenities or demanded to be killed and/or banished.

Out of context!

The bible never contradicts itself if read in contexts....

Apply the rules of hermeneutical studies, there're eight (cool of them:

1. The rule of definition
2. The rule of usage
3. The rule of CONTEXT
4. The rule of historical background
5. The rule of logic
6. The rule of inference
7. The rule of genre judgment
8. The rule of independence of the Holy Spirit

Oga! See, everything made with care came with a 'guide book'..... So did humans

Wonder what/how the age that didn't have the bible as we have it now use to know/do wrong from right? It's called 'conscience' that was and still is God's way of directing us......

You sound now as though you want to use your conscience - so, how are you able to tell that your conscience is not clouded with selfishness or greed? That's when the bible comes in

There're commandments, lessons from life experiences and instances to put you in check when you're about to do anything. And they work if you apply them.

There wouldn't have been written laws if only we (human beings) listen to that still-small-voice.

With all that's going on around you and inside you can you actually listen when your conscience is speaking?

Well..... The bible actually said a time is coming when he'll write his words on our hearts and not on books anymore. Meaning; we would witness for ourselves God's awesome wonder.

Where does your understanding or idea of God come from? Can you even really say there is a God? If you belive there is a God who is God?

Being a christian or atheist or muslim or buddist or anything for that matter has it's core in your understanding of God.

Even being an aborisa has its core in the understing of God.

Having said that just because you belive there is a God does not make you a christian at all. It is not a case of whether you are less a christian.

To be a christian you must belive the bible is scripture. You must belive that man is currently on the other side of Eden and cannot keep the laws of God by himself. You must belive that Jesus, the only begotten son of God came to earth, lived under the law fulfilled the law, died and rose again on the third day and ascended to heaven. Above all you must beleive in Jesus and his finished work at calvary. Then you will be saved - a christian.

Just to point it out, that you are a registered member of a denomination and give offerings does not make you a christian.

The main difference between chritsianity and other religion is that other religion say to you " for you to be saved you must do good- try hard to do good". Christianity says " believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved" - However the one who believe in the Lord Jesus will do good, not as a way to be saved but a prodcut of his/her salvation.

I haven't made any claims to how the universe was made. I don't know, no one knows. All we can do is speculate. I believe Zeus more likely created the Universe. HE was here before Yahweh anyways.

Exactly why your reasoning falls flat on its face. About the existence of supernatural beings, even the universe testifies of God's existence. How did the creation of man come about? Evolution? If evolution, then tell me why evolution has not adhered to the scientific principles of reliability, predictability, being testable and repeatable?

You've failed to show how. You are the one making baseless comparisons.

CaptainJune:

I disagree. It testifies of God's absence. There is not an iota of evidence of God or any other celestial being. There is evidence for a great ball of fire which provides energy. We call it the sun. Can you provide any evidence for your God?

CaptainJune:

How did the creation of man come about? Evolution? If evolution, then tell me why evolution has not adhered to the scientific principles of reliability, predictability, being testable and repeatable?
Shows how little you know about evolution. Evolution doesn't say man was created neither does it address how life/consciousness originated. Evolution is not an atheistic argument, it is a scientific one. If you have a problem with the theory of evolution, address your questions to the proper people. There are Christians and atheists on this board who are more knowledgeable than me on such topics. NOTE that even if evolution is discredited years from now, it still wouldn't be evidence for God.
