ABUJA–The on going construction of a second Niger bridge may be placed on hold until the integrity of the bridge is sorted out, the Federal government said Wednesday.

Reasons ranging from the actual cost of the bridge, non issuance of the Certificate of Compliance, non compensation of the host community and non adherence to due process in the award of contract were also responsible for the stoppage.

The disclosure was made by the Director-General, DG of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, Aminu Diko after a private meeting with president Mohammadu buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The DG while briefing State House Correspondent stated that the bridge was one of the issue discussed in the meeting

Noting the importance of the road that linked the south east and south west, Diko however asked the people to be patient with the government.

He said: “The second Niger bridge is one of the projects that we discussed with the President. We did say yes it is in the commission for regulatory oversight. We have been discussing the transaction with the Ministry of Works. But before it can be finalized.

The commissioner has to give a certificate of compliance, but we haven’t even done that because we have seen a lot of issues that we are uncomfortable with. We are talking with the Ministry of Works for them to correct it.

“The communities around that area are clamouring that their lands have been taken and that they have not been compensated adequately. As a matter of fact, we got a letter from Onitsha traditional council complaining that they have not been adequately represented in this

transaction.

“These kind of issues we are not saying that something has not been done properly but we need to be convinced that these few problems are sorted properly.

“We will also talk about the actual cost of the bridge, eventually we have asked the ministry of works to review it and justify how much the project should cost.

“For the second Niger bridge there will be a lot of studies that needs to be done on the integrity of the bridge itself which will take time it is not something we can see being completed in the next six months.
“I will like us to be patient about it. We know that it is a critical road. We also know how Nigerians suffer during festive holidays and we hear people sleep on that old bridge. The time has come for us to bring succour Nigerians”.

Buhari has moved from monopolisation of Federal appointment by Northerners and non appointment of Easterners to stoppping on going project in the East and giving filmsy excuses.

We long saw this coming. It is astonishing how predictable the cow herder actually is. No wonder the people of the East, were so adamantly against his presidency. They know Buhari as a tribalist mascurading behind the Arab religion called Islam.

Where are the one Nigeria crew to check Buhari excesses?

When IPOB starts, please forever hold your peace. They are acting well within their right, as there are limits to human endurance.

Anambra and Delta can meet and do that bridge by creating a state road and then tolling both ends to recover their money and get more IGR instead of waiting for Federal Government.

I carefully read the entire report and you could see the struggle to find reasons to justify their wicked action. Talking about payment of compensation, the truth is that beneficiaries will always clamour for more. The GEJ govt paid out #1.5 billion in compensation alone and this was widely reported. Therefore mentioning compensation in this report was a huge joke.
http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/weekly/index.php/new-news/17480-second-niger-bridge-displaced-communities-insist-on-resettlement

Buhari and his goon should understand that stoppage of work on that bridge amounts to an open declaration of war on Nigerians from that part of country. Shame on all the idiots who voted for APC from that part of the country. We told them that the idiot they were about to vote in as president was not only an illiterate but was too tribalistic and vindictive to president but they didn't listen

Tell me how a country can make progress if every new leader spends most of his tenure undoing what his predecessor did? No wonder your country remains stagnated more than 5 decades after independence

This is just unbelievable!

U will suddenly lose your voice and right to opinion on the affairs of the people of the East. If this is why u want one Nigeria then Nigeria must die. Say amen to dat!

Anybody that seek to hold development of a people who have given them everything will die before this year runs out, go and mark these words.

They want one Nigeria to spread lies, disease and stagnation. They want one Nigeria to bewitch others and become living parasites. They want one Nigeria to spread hate and drink blood.

They want one Nigeria to be a big disgrace on the map of Africa. One Nigeria must die this year in Jesus name i pray.

U will be in Arewa-badistan and see Bridges after Bridges rise on the Niger in Biafra Republic.

Some people are just fools. Did Lagos government build 1st, 2nd and 3rd mainland bridges? Did Lagos and Oyo build Lagos - Ibadan expressway?

This is the reason GEJ is endeared and loved in Ani-Igbo especially in Anambra.

The problem with you people is crass tribalism and thinking everyone but yourself is dumb.

Yet you wonder why people want their own country. When all your brain can do is think of how to cheat and oppress?

My people let us start agitating for a sophisticated and progressive Odu'a republic. I want us to be as brave as the ibos....if ibos are cowards, they won't be fighting for biafra all these years....

Mind you the rest of nigerians are cowards, not the ibos...it is the British who won the biafran war because British consider Nigeria their property....

Eastern nigeria is British property but biafra is not....Biafra is more or less considered an ibo man property, hence the British refusal to let go....

Nigeria as whole a is British property, and among these slaves of the British, it only the ibos who want freedom, just as it has always been during the slave trade...ibos are not slaves and can never be a slave. ...

I am agitating for my yorubas people to wake up and stop being slaves and O'yes to anything

How many yorubas are agitating for odua republic? How many Hausa / Fulani are agitating for arewastan? How many ijaw is agitating for ijaw republic? Then asked your dunce selves, my people, how many ibos want to be a Nigeria?

My people stop being Dunces of the century ...Join me and musiwa to agitate for our sophisticated and progressive Odu'a republic

This was the same MUMU that did not care one bit about the feeling of Anambrarians when it came to him shipping Bokoharam prisoners to Ekwulobia in Anambra.
Anambrarians even took to the streets to protest for several days and this idiot did not budge.

All of a sudden, he "develops soft spot" for Igbos when it came to stopping a major developmental project, making flimsy excuses

The government of the zoo called Nigeria and led one Daura Dumbass named Muhammadu Buhari can put entire jungle on hold, Ndiigbo would not give a hoot. There are, at least, more two bridges across the either River Niger or River Benue at some points and none belongs to Ndigbo or the ethnic group within the vicinity of the crossing. Why have dunces in Nigeria tend to arrogate the ownership of bridge across the River Niger at Asaba and Onicha to the Ndiigbo? In fact, the Daura Dumbass can knock down the existing bridge at Asaba and Onicha and I shall not give a ratass.

I blame Jonathan for this current development. I am not surprised though, what was GEJ doing for 5 years that he couldn't build the bridge he promised Ndi-Igbo? He couldn't even build anything for his SS people. I must confess that GEJ was a complete failure and a disgrace to the entire Eastern region. I will not judge the Buhari administration if it forestall the completion of the 2nd Niger bridge. We all saw it coming. Didn't we?

Very stu$pid excuse. A reputable company as Julius Berger doesn't start an extensive project as this without making sure all preliminary works are in order...this is common sense. Imagine an hausa man questioning the structural integrity of the bridge as if they even care if the bridge fails. When did northerners start caring for the safety of the Igbos?

This is another test for Gov. Obiano. You must resist this evil with every fiber of your being as did with boko haram inmates saga. There should be massive protest...massive one. This evil, and marginalization must stop. Yes GEJ reneged on completing this project before leaving office, however he did something I admire greatly ...made sure all funds were properly channeled and for work to start without interruption till completion before he left office.

Someone should PM Radio Biafra on this. IPOB need to mobilize a massive protest. What kind of evil is this? You wonder why Igbos want out of Nigeria ...this is why! Absolute evil
