What i have said is that he has majorly played as a striker in two striker formation which will always give him an opportunity to score goals.

That's also why i said that the all the goals he has scored in this qualifying has been as a striker.

This is now becoming confusing.

Rooney has played mostly as a number 10 (SS or AM) for England. He has also played a few games in the wing.

Owen on the other hand never played any of these positions except as a lead striker.

When I said in my first posts that Rooney scored 8 goals in 9 matches in this campaign, I never attached position to it. So I don't know why it's an issue. He also has scored from Attacking Midfield position. In the world cup he played AM and scored, then provided an Assist from the wing in England’s only two goals. He didn't start the last match.

In lead up to world cup, he played AM and scored about 5 goals.
