When you meet authentic people living through their soul, and not choosing the scripted life that society tells us we must live, it almost feels like a part of you has become liberated, too. People living authentically show us that we can live by what ideals WE feel most drawn to, instead of those already set for us.

Granted, it does take a lot of inner work to understand who you truly are, beyond the limitations and boundaries that others insist we abide by, but the journey is truly worth it once you begin to see yourself clearly.

Are you living authentically or not? These signs will help you decide, and maybe invite you to find yourself a little more.

1. They voice their opinions clearly and firmly, even if others may not agree.

People who march to the beat of their own drum are used to others disagreeing with them; however, this doesn’t stop them from living the life that feels most fulfilling in their hearts.

2. Authentic people choose a career path that resonates with them, not one that everyone else believes is best.

They know that by doing what they love, instead of doing what pays the bills, they have unlocked a huge part of what it means to follow your bliss. They simply cannot spend a large part of their life doing something that makes them feel dead inside.

3. They bring their own energy to the world, instead of being influenced by others’ frequencies.

People living authentically can honor and respect others’ energies, without feeling affected by them

4. They don’t fear taking the path less traveled in life.

They feel comfortable taking their own road, even if they have to venture down it alone for a while

5. Authentic people have fallen in love with themselves, and wouldn’t want to be anyone else.

They have mended their wounds and treated their insecurities, and now know the bliss of truly loving themselves

6. They feel so comfortable with themselves, that they give others permission to be themselves, too.

They make others feel free without having to say a word. Their energy speaks for itself.

7. Authentic people do things their way, and usually don’t follow the crowd..even if it means not having as many friends.

They probably spend a lot of time alone, but they have learned to love their own company and really get to know themselves.

8. They don’t take comments or criticisms about themselves personally. They know that others may not like them, but as long as they love themselves, that’s all that truly matters.

When you love yourself, the whole world shifts its winds in your favor

9. They seek out friends and partners who value deep conversations and an emotional connection, not gossip or sensational news.

10. Authentic people keep a positive outlook on life, even if they find themselves in tough situations.

A positive mind = a positive life.

11. They listen more, and talk less. Those living authentically know there’s much to be learned in silence.

Authentic people don’t usually like to gab too much about themselves. They would rather learn from others’ experiences.

12. Authentic people usually have some sort of daily ritual they follow, such as meditation or yoga, in order to remain centered and in touch with themselves.

Quiet time to connect with themselves is very important to them.

13. They love with all their heart, and never hold back how they feel just to keep others comfortable.

They aren’t afraid to offer their love to people, even if it means they might get hurt in the process.

14. Authentic people have a lot of self-confidence; they don’t hold back who they are.

To free yourself, you must be yourself.

15. They don’t wish anything bad on anyone; they truly want everyone to thrive in life and become the best versions of themselves.

They love everyone, because they have cultivated it within themselves.

16. Authentic people have moved past their egos, and live harmoniously with all life on Earth.

They don’t have to fight for their place here; they move through life with ease and grace.

17. They find beauty even in the most humble of places.

They know that your perspective determines your perception, and constantly work on balancing their own energies and creating a positive mindset.

18. People living authentically will never stay in a bad situation, even if leaving it means marching into the unknown.

They love themselves enough to get out of a negative situation, no matter how comfortable they once felt there.

19. Authentic people allow others to have opinions without getting offended by them.

They can tolerate others without their egos wanting to get the upperhand.

20. They see people for the souls that lie within, and hardly even notice people for their personal appearance any longer.

They notice people’s hearts and character before their physical appearance.

Good writeup. To be authentic means you are mature as a result of living above board with an integrity of the heart.it also means you don't allow others objectivity and judgements to deter and derail you as long as you know you on the right path with good motive for your goals and the betterment of the society. It also means you have gone above petty jealousies, gossips, mudslinginge.t.c In essence there is no room for retaliation. It also means you have gotten over low self esteem. To be 'Authentic' is to be the real you and to manifest what God has destined you to be.

The country is filled with fake people. Okay, look at everything the op has listed and then measure the traits against your family members, friends, neighbors and associates. How many of them fit the profile?

Am inspired. Thanks op. Is better to be yourself than struggle to fit in just to please the society. You might try for sometime, but u will definitely get tired.

You are right!
But this is also why I love this thread. The more we talk about such things, the more awareness we can raise for what really matters and it can go a long way.

It is part of the things that bred endemic corruption. How on God's earth would someone steal billions meant to transform roads thereby making it a death trap for people?

Fighting corruption is not just about jailing people but re educating them. I believe the change begins from You and I.

All the stars falls into alignment once we stay true to ourselves. Integrity is one principle I take too seriously. Take principles away from a man he becomes a wild animal.

The funny side is once you get tired trying to please everyone they move on and you are left with a pitiable YOU.

It is okay to be selfish and live your life.

Exactly!

The government is not responsible for the litter on our streets, for instance, we are. The subject is getting the populace to look beyond tribe and religious angles and working towards a better entity as a nation.

The difference lies in who you're trying to please they, yourself or your Creator. When you find pleasure in pleasing others, then you have found a state of peace and joy.

If by others you mean everybody I disagree. I think a greater state of peace and joy lies in pleasing oneself.

My point exactly, pleasure through pleasing others, everyone is pleased and so is the Creator. After all our Lord says "whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, you do unto me."

The post is not meant to be a yardstick for measuring other people in your life and your country... cheesy...sure recipe for disaster if you do
You have missed the whole point darling

It is meant to resonate within your spirit, and maybe set you on that path if it does
Very personal, this
Is all

Chubhie, great post...like that test one of yours

You can totally get messed up trying to please everyone you know? Mathematically, it is improbable to please everyone.

Maybe it's the word we use that makes it sound a bit off. What I'm saying is be good to everyone. Not entirely for anyone's sake but yours.

I had an experience today that made me question if we as Nigerians are ready for “Change”

I had cause to deposit some few bucks in bank. There's this new sky bank that opened for business few months ago so no much queues. I timed myself as usual that maximum fifteen minutes I'm done.

I met a shocker on entering the banking hall. I wanted to just turn back but I decided to proceed and join the queue only after seeking for the last person.

After like 30mins on queue, people were already getting agitated on how slow the cashier is--she's already stressed up and more pressures might make her do some mistakes which will always be deducted from her salary which may barely take her home. I asked the few people around to be patient and allow her time to do her job for it is not her fault that the bank is understaffed. I didn't know she heard it and looked up to me with that eyes of gratitude. I was happy I already made a soul happy today and prayed my good deed will be accepted by baba God.

Then this dude walked in-----Bodies tattooed, dressed like a gangster with a backpack and hands in pockets with some wired hair style. Dude filled out his forms sat for a few moment and then walked up to my queue---which is now 3 persons before my turn. He stood beside me and was all acting like a drug addict. I initially thought he might be an outrider sent to monitor proceedings before the real Men fall in. Have already prepared my mind and body for eventuality. Just immediately the it got to the turn of the man in my front--- a man I think in his 50's who acted a lil bit slow before the dude beside me tender his form to be processed. I was shocked the old man in my front looked at the dude and kept silent!!!

I as a matter of principle abhor any form of oppression and injustice. I asked the cashier lady not to attend to the dude cos he wasn't on queue. The dude was shocked at such effrontery. I've already scanned the dude and noticed I can take him out in less than a minute if the content of his bag does not contain nuclear warheads.

I tapped the baba on his shoulders to reassure him that he's safe and only need to say the truth cos the dude told everybody that he's in front of the baba. Baba says it was a lie. The dude turned to me and asked do I know who he is? I told him what ever you are is irrelevant to me as long as you join the queue. He raised his voice and every where was quite and thundered do I know who he is? I walked up to him pointed my finger to his flat chest and told him to his face in a calm cold deadly voice with every fiber in me giving him all assurances I told him in the quietness of the hall with all eyes locked on us that he's a chaff man.

Dude got the massage and quietly walked away and I went back to join baba who was processing his cheque. Dude then started abusing baba in some hard line yoruba. Most people were intimidated some few guys whispered why he was avoiding me was cos he knows I'm a worthy opponent. The was giving out deadly threats to baba that I noticed baba legs were bout shaking. With a hand on baba shoulders I reassured him he's safe as long as I'm here.

I was shocked the two guards there went to pacify the guy and took him to another queue where all the people gave way for him out of fear of the guy. The dude left the hall shouting that he will deal with baba. I finished paying in and told baba I will wait and escort him outside and make sure he's safe. He thanked me with a smile and said some prayers for me.

Baba then followed behind me on getting outside I couldn't see baba so I turned back to look for him but he's nowhere to be found. Then I saw the look on one of the security guys face and knew that I'm already a suspect with intent to lure baba and take his cash! That baba agreed to the ploy got me thinking.

1. Is it the case that at the late end they thought I and the dude acted it all up to lure baba and take his cash?

2.Do they think I was the bad guy?

I learnt some hard lessons today.
