It's unfortunate that sometimes when we think we know it all, we end up exposing our ignorance.
I have gone through your post and my dear believe it or not, 99% of the questions are necessary even the one that most amuses you.
An official who asks how long you are staying is at that point doing a mental check of the travelling allowance you declared and how far that can go. This is to avoid you turning into a public charge.
Who are you going to is no way useless as it's one of ICAO'S requirements that a traveller's contact in host Country should be known. This contact can even be a hotel where you have reserved accommodation.
On the question of the amount you are traveling with, today in Nigeria, there is a maximum amount of money you are allowed to travel with depending on your purpose of traveling. This is therefore the reason you might be asked, 'what are you going to London for?'
Even the question of are you on leave is not dumb? The genuineness of your traveling is what is being evaluated.
Wonder why you don't find the questions on America's visa application dumb. Questions like have you mental illness, are you a sponsor of any terrorist group etc.
Just learn to answer the questions and forget how useless they sound

Really? but am sorry to say much as you make sense,i have passport of another country and when using it, i have never being asked most of the questions at their airport.
most of The questions being pasted is actually basically used for first time travellers, the thing bout our airport officials is that they victimize so as to collect " something" if they were trully doing their job the way they are supposed to, no one will be complaining
Kai infact, most often airport officials in the lagos dont even ask me how much am carrying was asked that question just once believe it or not.

3. What is in your bag? Let me see.

There are usually many things in
a travellers bag. From clothing to
accessories and gadgets. How do
I start listing that there is a
toothpaste, a bathing soap, a
deodorant, cloths, charger, papers etc.? The annoying thing
with this question is that after
listing all you can remember is
stacked in your bag, the asking
official goes ahead to say “open it
let me see.” Whenever I hear this question, I usually just drop my
bag and open it. Security officials should just cut
the chase and demand to see the
content of my bag.
For them to know if u have dangerous substance like white powder(u know what I mean), dry leave or even gun. Many people ask such question.

They will only ask these question if you are traveling with a virgin passport. Once they see your passport with many stamps, the question will reduce..

Two months ago, one guy in the airport was trying to play me but I didn't say anything. Where to? Who are you going with? What's in your bag? Are you a student or worker ? ( he then stretch his hand demanding for my passport, when he opened it, he was like "eleyi ti pe loko o " meaning "this one don tey for farm o" facing his co workers ) I cant laugh because I pretended as if I didn't heard what he was saying . he just gave me my passport sharp sharp. I was like werey, shishi I know get cheesy
