Nollywood, Nigeria's greatest export is an igbo-english industry.
Dominated by igbos, funded by igbos, known all over the world.
That is what is important, and not some mushroom ethnic movie cabal.

we all know the difference between soap opera, cinema and home video. cinema and soap opera predates nollywood. both Igbos and yolobas started cinema and soaps before nollywood which was heralded by "living in bondage"
Before living in bondage there was ichoku, village headmaster, things fall apart, zebrudaya etc many actor of nollywood like nkem owoh pete edochie, pete eneh, fabian adibe, sam loco efe, justus esiri etc featured in things fall apar,t yet it is not considered part of nollywood because it was not on VHS

Yolobas only acted stage performances and later soapopera. Therfore Igbo founded and "owns" nollywood. even at that Igbos have more popular tv series and soaps. Dont get too emotional about it.

That you all were living in caves or still recovering from Biafra war during the period of the 70s and 80s and therefore couldn't afford to enjoy the recreational privileges of Cinema-going doesn't mean the rest of us also did same. The following movies were shot on Celluloid for the Cinema audiences by Yorubas in the 70s and 80s. Thank me later:

Lol. Dude, quit making a fool of yourself, please. We are talking about Cinema movies here, hello?? You need Cinema screens to watch those, which due to no fault of the Yorubas you lot were too poor and wretched to indulge in and afford cheesy At least some of those films made it to some European Cinemas, a feat that Nollywood films of today are finding it difficult to replicate (an industry which your folks have reduced to a worthless and piracy-infested joke no thanks to churning out trash).

Do you have any idea how much it cost to produce films on Celluloid during that period? ? Besides Things fall apart, mention any other noteworthy movie produced by your lot during that period. Even your much celebrated home video debut, Living In Bondage, was predated by Yoruba home-videos on video cassettes. If you don't know, you better ask somebody rather than acting a fool.

I'm not a fan of any version of Nollywood, but when I mistakenly watch the Yoruba and the English Nolly, I always prefer the Yoruba.

If you talk of 'No substance at all' and unnecessary part 1 to part 100, turn to English Nolly. Just sprinkles of standout producers like Kunle Afolayan are helping salvage the poor industry.
There are lots of wack Yoruba films out there, but they have always been churning out very quality works by the very best producers in the land. Mainframe pictures (opomulero) Antar Laniyan, preceded by the pioneers like Hubert Ogunde. Their historical films are superb, those historical films done in the 70s and 80s will keep you spell bound in terms of content and quality. Kunle Afolayan only learnt from the masters.

Both Igbo and Yoruba producers made movies before 1992. But the production of Living in Bondage on VHS format kick started what we know as Nollywood today. It's a movie that crossed all geographical and linguistics boundaries and established Nigeria as a movie producing Nation. Most of these veteran actors like Justus Esiri, funsho Adeolu,Olu and Joke Silva etc all crossed over to Nollywood and received more fame and accolades.
Sorry, you all should make out time and study the origin of Nollywood in Nigeria. Nollywood is not affiliated with pre 1992 movies. It's only an industry that was established by an Igbo Alaba trader and a poor Igbo film and Tv graduate known as Ken Ogunjiofor.
The origin of nollywood is never in doubt!

Truth is National theater died when Yorubas stopped producing cinema films due to the proliferation of VHS machines. Those films were very expensive to produce and their quality is at par with any in Europe and America. They were exported and screened abroad.
