Six Reasons Why Dakuku Peterside Of APC Will Win Rivers Guber Elections Rerun by dinachi(m): 7:49pm On Oct 24, 2015
The tensions surrounding the verdict of the Rivers election Tribunal has just eased ditto briefly after the tribunal presiding judge announced sonorously that the process of the elections was deeply flawed. He charged INEC to re conduct the elections within 90 days. Camp of the indefatigable APC leader and motivator in Rivers state, His Excellency the Right Honorable Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi was thrown into jubilation. No doubt the ministerial nominee must be feeling very happy right now as all his worries are dissipating one after the other. On the other hand, the governor of the state Wike must be wondering now how to wriggle out of this misfortune. From all indications, a rerun is imminent, whether Wike appeals or not. The question now is who will carry the day? Most people especially members of the opposition party the PDP are upbeat that Wike will carry the day but there are undeniable facts that exposes that optimism to be far fetched. Very clearly, Dakuku Peterside will not only win but will have a landslide victory. Lets look closely at these reasons.

1, PDP and Jonathan are no longer at the center.
Many people are making the mistake of overlooking this all important fact. They fail to understand that Rivers politics is always in tune with the party at the helm of affairs at the federal level. There is no way Wike and his cohorts will expect any kind of support or even sympathy from the Police or Military or even INEC as all these institutions are going to be neutral now and will quickly deal with any deception from Wike and or PDP. Infact, it is safe to say that these federal organs will be at the beak and call of APC. Many will argue that Buhari will not allow the kind of brigandage under Jonathan to happen in Rivers but they fail to understand that Buhari is determined to have Rivers and Akwaibom in the kitty of APC. In a nut shell federal might is now with APC!

2, Doggedness of Amaechi.
Many who do not know Amaechi personally make the mistake of overlooking his doggedness but it is on record that Amaechi has never lost any political battle! History favors him and he will once again deploy his magic wand that swept Jonathan out of power in Rivers state. For confirmation check out the list of his current political battles.
a, In spite of the substitution of his name in 2007 he won in court and went ahead to reclaim his mandate.
b, He won the governors forum election inspite of jonathan and even when Jonathan succeeded in polarizing the forum, eventually at the end of Jonathan tenure even former governor Godswill Akpabio admitted he won
c, He clearly sent Jonathan packing from Aso Rock
d, Inspite of Wikes machinations, he was given a hero's reception and screened by the senate.
e, Through his doggedness the election of Wike has just been annulled.
Love him or hate him, Amaechi is a political legend.

3, The Upland/Riverine dichotomy.
In Rivers state, there is a gentlemanly agreement between these two political blocks. Unfortunately, for Wike , he is coming to replace another man from the Upland, Amaechi. Fortnately for APC, Peterside is from the Riverine area and by this agreement Peterside has the upperhand. Some people will argue that this is not a strong point as it did not improve Petersides chances before but they forget that PDP was still in power then and Wikes thuggery was deployed with federal might to diminish this important issue. Now that Wike cannot count on the federal support,Amaechi and Peterside will play this sentiment up to their advantage.

4, Wike cannot count on Patience Jonathan support.
There is no doubt that the former first lady threw her weight behind Wike with all its appurtenances and what a weight! Then she could order generals around and even the IG of police was scared of her but today none of those things obtains anymore. She is more concerned about protecting her alleged ill gotten wealth than coming out openly to support Wike.

5, Alleged plan by EFCC to arrest Wike.
It was the APC in Rivers state that started the rumor, when they claimed that he will run away immediately he hands over power to the speaker of the house in preparation for the rerun. He will immediately loose his immunity and reliable sources say a dossier about his stewardship when he held sway as minister of education and also supervised the ministry at a time is with the EFCC. All the EfCC is waiting for is for him to step down and they will swoop in on him. If this happens, it will completely destroy his already battered image and kill his chances of being elected.

6, Rivers people love Dakuku
It is not doubtful at all! Most Rivers people especially those in the riverine areas totally adore Dakuku. Wike was totally aware of this fact and that was why he had to deploy thugs and security agents to compromise the elections. Now that APC controls the center, watch as Rivers people will show him love at the polls.

And finally, Amaechi, APC and Peterside has the psychological advantage. They have been winning so far and it is expected that they go on winning!

I disagree with number 6

we the Rivers people have fallen in love with Wike due to what he has done few months in office, there is massive road construction going on in the State what the previous administration could not do. most of the roads were in a bad shape, Apajo road that leads to the refinery was like a dead trap, he has won the love of most Rivers people. I am speaking the mind of most Rivers people. I believe strongly that wike will win even if election is conducted 20 times. I mean free and fair election. Buhari don't disappoint us further.

OP who told u all these?

you scored 101/102 in this ur post.

your mistake is in number 6 according to the poster above me.

PDP members say conduct the election ten times Wike will win because they say he is popular, forgetting that the element that made him popular is gone.

the truth is always better but it must be told. thanks to the judicial process that sometimes reveal the truth.

if Ameachi didn't lose without a federal might .... is it now that federal might has been added to his winning will?

Wike is more of my clan than Peterside but I fear if he will be allowed to contest the rerun, considering the pending results of the panel of inquiry commissioned by Ameachi on the killings before and during election and the case of corruption at the ministry of education

it won't be easy sha. lets see how this unfold

Like I told somebody, that if APC didn't want to win this, they won't have gone to the extent of contesting this election at the Tribunal and get it nullified. Tho PDP played into their hand, but APC is usually ready to deploy everything to claim this.
Soldiers, Police and even Amaechi thugs would be used to win this election for Dakuku. APC just want PDP to test out of their normal way they use to intimidate people.

The Upland/Riverine dichotomy is the determinant factor. I am on ground and an indigene of Ikwerre LGA.

http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/briggs-wike-is-pdp-s-hero-not-a-governorship-material/198643/

In this encounter with Ojo M. Maduekwe, the Director-
General of the Emmanuel Georgewill Campaign
Organisation, Mr. Dokubo Captain Briggs, speaks about the
state of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State and
the implication of going to the election a divided house
His demeanour was calm and his choice of words,
enthralling. It was obvious from the start that it was going
to be an interesting encounter. Reason is in the political
calculation of the present Rivers State, if the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) decides to ignore this messenger
or his message, the party’s decision could cost it in the
coming 2015 governorship election.
Although he is not alone in this line of thinking as other
prominent indigenes of the state share same feeling, the
fact that he is an interested party in the present game of
power makes such a lot more instructive.
This messenger is simply identified as Dokubo Captain
Briggs and his message is simple: the Rivers State 2015
governorship election primary of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) “was conducted with fictitious delegates’ list.
The outcome of the result is fraudulent. The party
leadership must do what’s right.”
Briggs narrated how during the delegate election many of
his supporters clinched majority of the seats.
“Unfortunately, the list was falsified and we protested even
up to the national office but nothing is yet to come out of it.
At the time, the party promised to do the needful.
“Then came the primaries and we put together our
delegates for accreditation but they were not accredited.”
The 2015 governorship primary election has been
concluded and the former Minister of State for Education,
Nyesom Wike, declared the candidate of the PDP, but
Briggs insisted that the party must backtrack or go into the
elections on a faulty foundation.
There already exists disarray within the state PDP over the
choice of Wike. Even amongst his kinsmen, the Ikwerres of
the upland area, many are said to be agitating for power to
shift to the riverine area. Recently, the Supreme Council of
Ikwerre Traditional Rulers endorsed the governorship
candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dakuku
Peterside and asked their sons and daughters to vote for
him.
Reason the traditional rulers endorsed the candidate of the
APC, as against that of the PDP was because the PDP had
failed in doing what was seemed right amongst many of the
Rivers people by fielding a riverine person. The choice of
Wike, if not reversed, appears capable of thwarting the little
goodwill that the PDP is said to still enjoy among the
people. Interestingly, time is not on the side of the party.
All the political parties, according to INEC guidelines, have
till Tuesday next week to make the necessary substitution
to their choice of candidates.
The idea that PDP may not win Rivers State if nothing is
done by the party to backtrack on the choice of Wike has
been described by Briggs as a source of worry to him and
many of the party’s supporters in the State. “We are
worried and are still talking with the national leadership of
the party.”
Briggs said it was important that the party hierarchy
understood that the party’s footing in Rivers was fragile.
“We do not understand how they think that the party can
win. We are still talking with the party at all levels, trying to
make them understand that even the blind can see that
Wike will not be able to win for us in Rivers State, and
something needs to be done.”
One thing he said was lacking across the Nigerian political
system was strong institutions. “Institutions are supposed
to be stronger than individuals; they are supposed to be for
everybody and putting together processes and the right
principles in place for people to be able to have a say.”
Far from the ideal, on the contrary, several political parties
are not strong institutions even Briggs recognises this
challenge. “The party is not supposed to be owned by
anybody or tilted towards anyone. If this was the case, it
will create less fiction for us as a people, but because
people don’t have confidence that they can compete freely
and because they don’t believe to have what it takes to win
a contest, that’s why people are coerced.”
Unfortunately, there are those who instead of working to
build strong political institutions are taking advantage of
the lapses in system. For there to exist people siding with
Wike whose emergence was faulty, Briggs said it was
because “the institution is not strong enough to protect the
interests and rights of the people, but a few.”
According to him, anyone, including the first lady, Mrs.
Patience Jonathan, had the right to endorse any candidate
of their choice, but in doing so, it was important that the
law was followed and the general interest of the people and
not that of the few taken into consideration.
“As an individual, if she (First Lady) thinks that Wike is the
right candidate for the job, she has the right to support him.
But we must begin to speak for credibility and talk about
potential of people. For the first lady supporting Wike, it is
her right. The party is supposed to protect the interest of
the people and bring the best so that the work of winning
the election is easy.”
Since that has failed to happen, Briggs said it was going to
be difficult, nay nearly impossible for the PDP to win the
governorship election in February. “We were in Abuja to talk
about this because we are deeply worried and we don’t
understand what the party thinks and how they think that
they are going to win with a Wike candidature.”
He said Wike’s rise doesn’t translate to mean that he was
capable of leading as governor. Briggs narrated how, to
salvage the PDP whose political fortunes had started
dwindling with the defection of Governor Rotimi Amaechi,
Wike became a rallying point for the PDP members in the
state and consequently, the hero of the struggle to stabilise
the party in the state.
“Everybody wanted to salvage the party, and in doing that,
there must be leadership. Wike happened to be a minister
at the time and so the highest serving PDP officer in
government in Rivers State. So the responsibilities squarely
fell on his shoulders. I have told him that he is not a
governorship material for now.
“Not because as an individual he does not have capacity,
but in this present circumstance, considering the
sentiments and sensibilities of the Rivers people, and
circumstance the party is in Rivers State today, he is not
the best of candidate. I hold strongly to that, and because
he has insisted on being governor, the party is highly
fragmented.”
Briggs said the few members who remained in the PDP did
so out of love to see that the party regains its status.
According to him, there are people in the opposition that
are not comfortable there but cannot come back “because
of the circumstances that they see in the PDP.”
To address this gap, Briggs said was why they chose
Emmanuel Georgewill, whom he described as “a bridge
building candidate”, someone with the experience and
capacity to govern the State. He insisted that the times and
the agitation by the riverine people favoured Georgewill.
“You cannot throw away the sensibilities of the Rivers
people. We have the upland and riverine dichotomy. The
upland has done 16 years. Emmanuel is a riverine
candidate, and fielding him would give PDP massive
support from the riverine people, who are bent serious on
ruling.”
That aside, Briggs said Georgewill was experienced and
capable of running the state economy, re-engineering and
diversifying it. “Emmanuel comes from the real sector; the
oil and gas sector. He’s been able to cut a niche in that
sector. Now, if you can grow a small economy for yourself
as an individual, then if you’re given a responsibility, then
you can actually manage a big economy. Emmanuel has
this to his credit.”
Throughout this encounter, Briggs who conducted himself
in a calm manner, though firm in both his response and
resolve to ensure that his party rights the wrong, kept
reiterating that he would do so by toeing the path of the law
and not resort to any unlawful means like many politicians
are known to do. “I have this conviction that the party will
do what is right,” he said confidently.

interests and rights of the people, but a few.”

You are very correct my brother! Wike resorted to thuggery and compromising the process. Ordinarily, it will be difficult for any riverrine person to vote Wike.

Your political mentality needs a reboot! Jonathan and Patience are no longer in power. PDP is practically dead. Wike won Rivers at the height of PDP power but now, he will be on the wrong side of the federal might. Watch the situation change right before your eyes.

Amaechi Knows that, Wike Winning the rerun will automatically render him a political nonentity in the South South...Yes Ngene says so!!!

But the question is: Amaechi as a Minister Of Niger Delta, with all the Federal Power (DSS, Army, Navy, Airforce, Civil Defence, INEC, Even Millitant) allow Wike to get 20% of the Votes?? Your Guess is as good as mine!!!

It will be a Walk Over for Peterside anyday!
