Now I don't know the answer to this but what stops State legislators passing legislation with dual taxation?Basically tax people from out of state/region more than they tax indigenes? Individuals and not business. Similarly, state universities charge higher fees for out of state/region students?

The only legal way to stem migration is through taxation. #justsaying

Very good tactic BUT this will brew some hell of trouble men!

Fashola's relocation exercise is still a living dilemma for these economic migrants. If SW governors should ever try going that direction of your, it will cause a lot of friction between we and these flateenos (but I really dont care though), 'cos I very sure SW sure we stand to gain while SE stands to lose . But do you think the center will just fold its arms?... I DOUBT IT.

My Sis, I beg to differ o. All SW states save Lagos need not reach the population density of Lagos before we term them overpopulated. Ok, you check the p.d of most cities in the world and trust me, cities here are very much on the high side. We need not look like bangladesh before we can join the league of overpopulous places.

Lol................I agree we don't need the density of Lagos but believe if aside from the capital cities, every other town is sparse. Higher institutions bump up some cities.

Take Ogun State, once you take out Abeokuta and Ota, everywhere else from Ayetoro, to Igbogila, Ifo, Ado-Odo are all sparse, don't even get me started on the 'awon Ijebu this way to yen'

Oyo State, aside from Ibadan, where else shey na Iwo, Oyo town Aiyedaade, Lanlate or where?

Osun - Oshogbo, maybe Ife, the rest na land you go just dey say.

Ondo and Ekiti? Make we just leave matter abeg.

Overpopulation is bad but you also need to encourage people to stay in these places to encourage infrastructural development.

Meet 23-year-old who broke academic record in UI

Olayinka Olamide Sadiq made history at the convocation of the University of Ibadan last week when he got eight out of 11 possible distinctions in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The 23-year-old indigene of Iragbiji in Osun State beat the record of seven distinctions set some years back.

He was also the overall best graduating student of the university.

Many at the convocation held at the International Conference Centre of the university were amazed when his name was called 31 times during the prize presentation.

Sadiq’s lecturers and other university officials rushed forward to take pictures with him.

But how could Sadiq, who always led his class from primary to secondary school, have opted for veterinary medicine and not medicine and surgery?

He told The Nation: “Years ago, University of Ibadan practised a mode of admission where your credentials are graded; basically your JAMB and O-level results. Unfortunately, my O-Level was not included, so my weighted average was so low. It was 27.5; too low for the course I wanted. Veterinary medicine was neither my first nor second choice. It was an alternative as ‘change of course’ due to what I call irregularities, which prevented me from being admitted for Basic Medical Science.”

He said he knew he was going to lead his class, but not being the institution’s best.

“I knew I was going to do very well in the university, but being the best overall student of the year…sincerely I did not think of it. I had some B grades despite the fact that I still scored highest in those courses. The number of distinctions attainable in the veterinary school, university of Ibadan is 11 and I made 8. The other three courses were B grades,” he said.

After his youth service, Sadiq plans to enrol for a postgraduate course in diagnostic medicine, hopefully in the United States.

To be the best, Sadiq said he worked hard. “Being a first class student takes hardwork, focus and prayer to sustain. Some are gifted, but work is still required. Prayer is a necessity if we want to survive the hurdles of life; I am a Muslim and I pray five times daily. Distractions would always surface, but when you are focused, you will be able to achieve many things, even with the numerous distractions in the university.”

He continued:“In veterinary school, 24 hours is never enough. Going to class Mondays to Fridays, from 8am to 5pm; extra-classes on weekends, numerous tests from various departments…It is impossible to thrive without burning the midnight oil.”

His hard work left no room for romance. “Well, there were friends; very nice and good friends, but not the one you think. Also, I did not have any regret whatsoever; though there were hard times, but God took total control,” he said.

Will he be coming back to teach? “I have not decided yet, but research is a yes. I love researching,” he said.

No matter how overpopulated a place can be, the most important thing that will strike out the effect of overpopulation is whether such place has the adequate capacity of resources that will either sustain the people's demand OR exceed it. l'm sure you know even a sparce community will suffer just like a dense community if the resources are found to be inadequate.

As you have said, infrastructure FIRST, before people. I tell you Sis, no matter how loose we can be with our boarders for the hope of driving development, it will still fall short of expectations if we dont create the needed infrastructure first.

Ondo builds 50 mega schools, disburses N2bn bursary, scholarship

Ondo State Government, led by Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has said it has so far built 50 Caring Heart Mega Schools across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state since its assumption of office in 2009. The mega schools, equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities were built by the government to meet the standard and enhance a child-friendly schools as well as provide quality education for students in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, who disclosed this during a chat with journalists in Akure, the state capital, said the aim of the mega schools is to ensure social integration among school children irrespective of their social status. “The major objective of the mega schools is to close the gap between the rich and the poor in the society,” he said, stressing further that the concept would make the beneficiaries of system able to compete favourably with their counterparts within and outside the country. According to him, the state government has also embarked on the rehabilitation of 97 primary and 240 secondary schools across all the local government areas of the state, while some had already been renovated.

He said N200 million was released for the State Library Board to purchase modern and relevant textbooks in core subjects with a view to improving and encouraging reading culture among the students. “Recently, teachers of core subjects were trained and retrained in order to be able to acquire new skills and techniques on how to teach and achieve better performance,” Akinmade added, saying that teachers of private schools were not exempted in the training on Ebola Virus Disease kits usage and prevention.

Besides, the commissioner hinted that no fewer than 16,875 teachers and 223 nonteaching staff have also been promoted by the government, even as Akinmade added that the free school shuttle bus was flaggedoff on June 12, 2012 to reduce the burden of extra spending by parents who ordinarily would have found it difficult to send their children to school due to high bus fare.

The shuttle bus project, according to him, was introduced to reduce the distance trekked by the students to and from school, which in turn has negative effects on their studies. Towards this end, the commissioner recalled that 90 free shuttle buses are in the fleet across the state, with 44 in the Ondo Central Senatorial District, 24 in Ondo South District and 22 in Ondo North Senatorial District.

He said before the inception of the administration, student’s bursary were N5,000 and scholarship N20,000, but were reviewed upward by the Mimiko-led administration to N10,000 and N100,000 respectively.

Shymmex baba!

I think the Nikkygal chic is married. She mentioned her Mother-in-Law in the post I talked about. So road no dey for that side at all.

You know, I really don't like 'em chics lovin' me for my "book-smarts". Trust me, my Resume is quite impressive but I don't flaunt it at them. I love them adoring me for my "street-smarts", instead.

But on my part, I think I prefer them "book-smart". I once wooed a very "book-smart" girl 'cos she was good at Chess. We were getting along well till she saw me smokin' weed with a fellow chess mate. She said she couldn't handle the weed-smoking part, so I let her be. grin

Candy? That moniker seems familiar.

Candy, where are you? Oya, report here sharp sharp!

MIL? - now she's taken, unless she wants to place away games at yours. lipsrsealed

We're somewhat the same but I prefer chics that're book-smart and also somewhat street-smart. With that, relations won't be that difficult. Also, personally, I like keeping it real with and telling them my background, so as not to let them get carried by believing the dapper guy they see is 100% me. I'm a compilation of so many things. Product of my environment. And regardless of whatever status I get to in life or my achievement(s), I know certain influences will never go away - hence they have to be able to live with the aspect if it pops up. So whenever they catch me messing with zoot and getting spiritual, all they can do advice/help me to stop. grin

Yes, I like ya outlook on marriage - I share the same outlook as well. But it's difficult to find a decent chic that'll just have kids for you without you putting a ring on it. That's the price you have to pay for the ultimate prize. Unless you want a chicken-head that's looking for an eighteen years meal ticket.

Where candy at? The doozy tupacshakur wanna say wagwan. lipsrsealed
