Apparently, there are 2 categories of men of God. Those that was actually called by God and those that claimed to have been called by God but in the real fact called themselves. Churches these days are seen as cool business centres.

This church is older than all the pentecostal churches in Nigeria! It's not a business church.

The presence of God is definitely not in that church.

Stop saying things you know nothing about! Have you visited the church before? How would you know if God's presence is there?
That church has more reasons to be favoured by God than these modern day Christian merchandises in Nigeria!

Cultist Centre.

Everything is a cult to you right undecided

Do you know that every church or religion in the world is a cult? That is if you go by the definition of a cult which you are applying to this context!

Please, the Holy Aruosa is a church and the members do not criticise other churches, that makes them even far better than most of you hypocrites that condemn everything you don't understand.

This church is more than a church OP. The people who go there to worship knows what truly is at stake as I knew someone who was a member of that church and converted.
OP you forgot that even Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion has his own cathedral in his compound along Benin GRA and the guards are dressed in British Costumes standing like statues. They don't do advert nor share handbills toinvite just anyone to come. It is happening in Benin City too

Did they call it church?

Is there any word church there?

That it is a cathedral does not make it a church.

And I suppose the leader is not referred to as general overseer!

I know people have no knowledge of history these days.

This is one of West Africa's oldest Cathedrals. Dating from almost 500 years now.

Oba Orhogbua of Benin was already a Christian. He even trained in Portugal. Royal Portuguese Military Academy, a foremost military school then.

He reigned about 1547-1580. He set the stage for Esipka/Asipa to become the first Eleko/Oba of Lagos.

By the way, Queen Elizabeth II of UK is head of Church of England/Anglican Church, ahead of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Beginning with King Henry VIII in 1533.

As a white person, some blacks with inferiority complex would applaud that. But not a black King as a church head historically.

The continuous distortions of Benin history is appalling. Where exactly do these people get th3ir facts from? The holy aruosa church is indeed d 1st church ever established in Nigeria. It was established by the Roman catholic church through Portuguese missionary explorers from d papal see. It was they who got the Oba's son to Portugal and educated him. Under d agreement between d Binis and d portuguese, bilateral trade relations were to be establised between both kingdoms. Under the terms of agreement was to allow a 3 churches to be setup in Benin of which d holy aruosa church is d only one standing. The church was rebuilt after d British massacre of 1897 and in actual fact has lost d right to be called a church.
If u look at gown worn by the palace chiefs of d Oba you'll notice a striking resemblance to the Catholic priest soclace.
It is most annoying when people cook up fables that do not hold water.

How can you know where God is and where isn't? How can u even prove that it's the biblical God that is the real God (it's not that I am trying to say he is not ooo).

For ur information, that church is the oldest church in West African. It was founded over 500 years ago, before the white men came.

SMH... That means if Boko Haram opens a church, God's presence will be there since it is a church? It's common sense naaaaaaaa.

PapaBrowne:
The Bini is the tribe with one of the greatest ancestry in Africa.

I passed through the Moat today and I was marveled at what the leadership of the time(probably 300-400 years ago) put together to prevent invaders from reaching the kingdom.

They dug the Moat, a wonderful defense infrastructure without cranes and bulldozers and yet they covered hundreds of kilometers.

Today, our leaders cannot even attempt to think solutions that would protect us from simple armed robbers talkless of building barriers that would protect us from invaders.

I'm doing an amazing study that has been very revealing. I'm drawing up a pathway that would re-energize the Benin people to tap into the greatness that runs in their veins.

@Papabrowne,

We have a new generation of Christian zealots, I dare say pseudo-extremists, hell-bent on destroying anything of African heritage. Pity that what colonialists didn't quite succeed in doing, they are doing for the long gone colonialists now.

And they will make the patrimony of their descendants much poorer.

The moats as seen today date from about 1280AD. Oba Oguola was the first to commission moat construction.

He also instructed important provincial towns like Udo to do same. Several towns did.

Of course Oba Ewuare and Oba Ozolua, conscious of the threat from Idah/Igalla and Oyo Empire, instructed building of more moats and ramparts.

The moats were built in stages, at different times, by different Obas, depending on economic and military prowess of their reign. And of course imperial ambition, especially after 1440 AD.

The moat also had internal political relevance. Certain powerful chiefs and dukes were within the inner moat. Others were outside the moat.
Benin, like all empires/kingdoms, had its fair share of aristocratic intrigues.

It was a wise thing to have some powerful dukes like Ero & Ezomo well outside the inner moat. In fact one moat is called Iyaro (Iya-Ero) or Ero's moat. Today not from Ero's palace at Urubi area in Benin.

However, smaller moats probably existed much earlier than 1280. For different reasons primarily.

For example, a moat separated the domains of two ancient towns/local rulers some kilometres outside of Benin: Ugbor & Ekai. These are near Country Home area, on Sapele Road side today. In fact it used to be called Iyanuwu (The Boundary Moat).

Moats clearly existed before Oba Ewedo (father of Oba Oguola) managed to defeat Ogiamien and other local lords within Benin proper and enter the heart of the City to reside/build the ancestor of the modern palace.

A mix of tribalism, religious zealotry, and disdain for anything historically African, make people to condemn Benin, its culture, its place in world history and civilisation.

the moat was not built..that moat was done by THE GREAT ARUAN GIANT OF BINI KINGDOM..who legend has it was used to sweeping with palm trees becuz of his size and height ,it was reported he was angry during the invasion and in anger ,he tapped on the ground creating the moats thereby hindering passage of the oyinbos..bini is culturally rich and even so strog dat till today u will still find families/homes with their own gods, churches sharing fences wiv shrines..just mind ur biz..dey mind theirs..many story books we read den in school ,u still find the places intact...e.g the dancinng yam...the story of uloko le eyean..the iroko tree of eyaen is still there and many people still visits it..including me d last time i was i nja i passed tru it cuz it was a day for rites..dat tree has alot of scary stories to itsef..
