If it happens to me, i wont like to come between my sister and her husband. Trying to fight my brother in law in such a situation will only add salt to my sister's injury because i may angrily hit him with an object which can make him slump and die. I will then be arrested, charged to court and jailed for murder. This can bring shame on my family and turn my sister to a widow. Fighting my brother in law for beating my sister will only fuel the crisis and degenerate to bitter quarel which can wreck my sister's marriage. So i will prefer been a peace maker and not a house breaker.

This is what I think would have happened afterwards had he interfered;
Wife joins him in physically and verbally abusing the husband, calms down later, the husband calls to apologise, she forgives him and they have make up s*x. And yes, brother dearest becomes the enemy.
He has his reason(s) for not interfering and I am sure that wasn't the first time the husband had hit her, if she can't save herself no one can.

What has that got to do with anything? What IF he abuses his own mother in-law, will the Heavens fall? My sister has no right to insult his mother, and vice versa and if that should happen, let the man address it without putting a finger on my sister.
