What is what replication by other eastern governors is near equal development of their senatorial districts.
Flyover is no sign of urbarnization.

In my Imo state, the state capital has everything modern in the state, including all the five universities and polytechnics in the state.

Only modern infrastructure out of the capital - the teaching hospital - has been gradually thwarted, today it no longer admits students. It's a horrible state.

But it's a good start. Development will eventually get inland. Just a matter of time.

Sometimes I just stop by to think and applaud this Obiano guy and every other performing governor in obodo Nigeria. I visited anambra and I was amazed at the projects I saw. Man is really working. If every governor and political leader can replicate this and more in their regions then we would move forward as a country and people would have no business trooping to embassies. I'm still very hopeful that the Nigeria of my dreams shall come to fruition. We shall have everything ranging from infrastructure, sound economy and monumental developments in all spheres of life. Well done Obiano. God bless u and keep u for ndi Anambra.

I still don't understand why this politicians should be praised for the work they do, are they not suppose to do it?
Is the teacher in the classroom praised for teaching, are the medical doctors praised for saving lives? So what makes the politician different.

We Praise them to encourage them because we have 36 Governors in Nigeria but only a handful embark on massive developmental projects like this. Others just loot and share the money. So that's why its good to encourage this few that are doing their best telling them that the people see what they are doing and appreciate them for it

Another Lai Mohammed?

Development in a state must not be reserved for the state capital alone - as it is in Imo state.

30% of government development infrastructure can go to Owerri the state capital, while 70% should be for the other 24 lgas. But Okorocha, as told by his deputy three months ago, devoted 75% of the state's capital development projects in Owerri alone in four years. Because Okorocha has his businesses and palatial home in Owerri. The rest of Imo state remains poor with no real government development infrastructure to boost their economics

If every Imo person of means does like the present governor - go to build permanent residence in Owerri and treat the rest of the state like villages, like Okorocha does - before long., Owerri city shall become over crowded

Wellie is not working Jack, I'm currently serving in anmabra state. These flyovers are quite unnecessary (except that of aroma junction) because the roads in awka are tiny and substandard. Awka looks like a village and he's busy building flyover on the express.

The flyover project is just eye service, he should have enlarged roads in awka, build pedestrian walkway and upgrade the city generally.

Total waste of money for now.

Obiano is really working,.. I was 1 of those that criticized for cos I was expecting more road construction... In his stay in office he has been able to touch some important sectors ranging from Real Estate, Agriculture, Road construction, etc. Awka is really growing but to my notice there has been congestion in some part of the city. Especially the Eke Awka axis where the road networks re too narrow...
I think there is also need to urbanize some major towns in the state.

Lol, some folks - too many of them in the east - look at Lagos fly overs and tend to see fly over as a sign of development.

These folks literally coerce their usually less-educated governors to build them fly overs in their state capital, even where a good round about should have been okay, instead of building expensive and obstructive flyovers
In the other parts of the same state where eye-catching flyovers are being built in the state capital, flood waters carry houses due to absence of urban or rural drainage system. Imo state is an example.

Bro. give the man some credit.. I agree with you that 3 Interchanges (flyovers) at those points re quite unnecessary 2 could have been enough (that of Aroma and Amawbia). But you see to renew or revitalize Awka won't be an easy job.. cos from my observation developers in this state don't adhere to setbacks.. Most of those roads re narrow because people that have structures don't observe setbacks and that shortens the width of the road. I just wish town planning boards in the state will sit up and make sure people build where they re supposed to... and correcting those errors will involve stepping on people's toes. it will require a lot of demolitions and ejections. Mind you Awka is still growing..

I hope you re enjoying your service in my state. .

its so annoying seeing the sycophancy, flyovers are meant for junctions with disturbing traffick. Flyovers in a junction like amawbia is just a total waste of money. Awka town its self lacks infrastructure and this man is busy deceiving his people with elephant projects.

seriously, the town is totally unplanned, I couldn't believe that is the capital of anambra state. I expect him to bring down structures without pity cos its for the benefit of everybody. He's busy building unnecessary flyovers on express when awka is so messed-up, what a misplaced priority and languishing of funds.

None of biz anyway.

No, its good that you pointed that out.. Indeed Awka is unplanned... its been 25 years Awka was made a capital.. The city will still grow... I think what caused this congestion issue is the indiscriminate construction of buildings without proper monitoring by the State Planning Boards.. To effect a change though might be for the good of the public but it will affect so many people. Cos the menace is rampant in the whole state capital. The congestion am worried about the most is the market men and women that sell things along the major roads and inability of commercial motorist to use a bus stop.

This was commissioned last year and they are working night and day to make the city the best in Nigeria.

In keeping with the desire of the Governor Willie Obiano administration to create a decent environment for the people, the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) is partnering with the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) to develop a world-class city focused on Dubai Model City concept. Stakeholders converged over the weekend for the 2015 NIA State Chapter Annual Conference organized by NIA and ACTDA at the Emmaus House, Awka with the theme: “Developing An Effective Urban Master Plan for Awka Capital Territory.”

Speaking after declaring the one-day seminar open, governor Obiano stated that as a friend of the “built environment” who is excited with the activities of the NIA, he believes in professional organizations driving the process of infrastructural development. Governor Obiano who was represented by the Executive Vice Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Arc. Michael Okonkwo recalled that since the May 15, 2014 inauguration of the 10-man Board for ACTDA, the team has kept pace with the mandate to transform Awka like Dubai did from 1990 to 2013.

To achieve the transformation, Obiano said ACTDA was mandated to accelerate infrastructural development of the Awka Capital Territory, prepare a Master Plan for the Territory, implement the Awka Capital Territory Master Plan, provide infrastructural services and coordinate all building development activities of the private sector, parastatals and government agencies within the Territory.
According to him, the Awka Capital Territory consists of six local government areas in part or in whole of Anaocha, Awka North, Awka South, Dunukofia, Njikoka and Orumba North.

He pointed out that the Model City Concept for Awka Capital Territory considered and adopted most efficient, productive, lucrative and affordable design principles before settling for three Capital Cities of Dubai of United Arab Emirates; Seoul, the capital city of South Korea and Kigali, the capital city of Republic of Rwanda

The governor stressed that the importance he attaches to an orderly environment informed the speed with which he approved the Development Control Manual (DCM) produced by ACTDA, geared towards ensuring orderliness that will propel sustainable development in Awka Capital Territory and control of land use and institution of compliance with space standards and approved designs. He said ACTDA has completed such projects as Aerial Photography of Awka Capital Territory with a resolution of 10 cm, using a mapping that produces a higher Digital Terrain Model height accuracy for urban planning and engineering designs and aerial photogrammetric method of surveying that involves measurement and interpretation of features directly from aerial photography.

In his welcome address, Chairman of the State chapter of NIA, Arc. Peter Okpala noted that the theme of the conference was carefully chosen as a major contribution of the Association to the infrastructural development in the State, stressing that “the choice was informed by our decision to partner with the current administration of governor Obiano that has shown good desire to lay a solid foundation for orderly infrastructural development.”

“The members of the NIA Anambra State, very desirous of working to improve our environment, saw the setting up of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority as a wonderful opportunity to create a world-class city in our State and also a platform for us to achieve our long desire to create a decent environment for our people. There might have been attempts to produce the master plan before now, but it never materialized.

“He appreciated the governor for appointing professionals in the art of governance, adding that his quick response during the period of incessant collapse of building in the State and setting up Collapsed Building Panel has ensure that not a single building has collapsed again unlike between June and September 2014 when about 10 buildings collapsed in the State”.

While hailing Rubend Nig. Ltd and Intercolor Ltd for their exhibitions, at the conference, Arc Okpala sought for partnership with the State government in the areas of project monitoring and supervision for which the Association requested for a bus and project monitoring vehicle for effectiveness.

Resources Persons presented papers during the occasion namely: “Urban Renewal Plan/Redevelopment Structure for the Capital Territory” by Professor Leonard Muoghalu; “Sustainable Urban Development Plan” by Arc Adibe Njoku; “Waste Management System/Refuse Disposal” by Dr. Anthony Okoye and “Effective Physical Planning Laws/Legislation” by Arc. Chijioke Okwuowulu.

Others are “Fire Control Safety Management” by Engr. Martins Agbili; “Security System and Management” by CP Hosea Karma; “Traffic Control and Management “ by Mr. Sunday Ajayi and “Developing An Effective Urban Waste Management System for Sustainable Environment.”
